Due to lack of snow, June mountain has only been open a few weeks and is already closing with no chance of reopening for the rest of the season. What is wrong with the world???

here's an email sent from the manager to local businesses-

"In my nearly 10 years here in the Eastern Sierra, this is the most difficult and gut wrenching decision that I have had to make.

The above average temperatures along with the very light snow pack no longer allow us to offer a reasonable quality ski experience.

We will close the ski area after the lifts close on Sunday, January 28. The long range forecasts are calling for continued dry patterns to remain.

It will snow eventually I am sure, though, after ceasing operations, we will not be able to re-open the area if and when sufficient snowfall finally arrives.

Mammoth Mountain will honor all “June Only” season passes at Mammoth for the rest of the 06/07 season. Mammoth Mountain will also honor and group business that has been booked for June Mountain.

We are all extremely cognizant of how fragile the June Lake economy is, and how important the winter season is to our businesses. We all worked closely together to develop programs and packages to grow visitation to our area. It was all good work, and we should continue working together. Unfortunately, none of us can control the weather. If you have and questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Carl S. Williams, General Manager June Mountain"

Sucky for locals and stuff, good deal for those who bought 125$ college june passes that basically got a free mammoth season pass now. ugh.

Snowfall this year has been so uneven across the States. I feel sorry for you guys, but the NW had it just as bad two years ago. And with El Nino due to start effecting us this year, I doubt we'll have much more luck.

it sucks i used to live in oregon and ski at hood and i got screwed over 2 years ago there, and now it is liek this here

wow quit complaining... you fucks have been getting dumped on for the past 5 seasons. and by dumped i mean snow the size of houses. now you no how us eastcoasters feel.

haha yeah but we live on the west coast for a reason. if we wanted crappy snow we'd move to the east. I am allowed to complain.

well winter is here for me finnally but gone for you. That sucks but its only fair. At least you got the beggining of the season.

ye, I dont think I've seen more than half an inch of snow on the ground outside my house. The east coast is really eating this winter.

I just moved back from So lake tahoe a few weeks ago because of an injury...but there is no fuckin snow anywhere in Tahoe. I skied everyday since the resorts were open and i got 1 powder day of maybe a foot of snow. There isn't any backcountry open...the only decent stuff to hit there are northstar and sierras park otherwise Tahoe is a waste of time this year....:(

san juans are doing all right but summit county is starting to really suck, they are losing a lot of snow up there

with a mountain as big as June, they will need a certin amount of snow to keep open, and it would be substantial in compariasin, because of its terrian...correct me if im wrong though.

for those of you wondering, mammoth's park is still in full swing. they have a huge snow making system so main park has a 50' hit, a super pipe, super duper pipe in progress, and a bunch of other stuff. only the backcountry skiing sucks at mammoth right now, but if you like park it's fine. june just doesnt have the resources or snowmaking system like mammoth

thats unfortunate. June is damn fun, and was pivotal in the PNW bad year (at least for me). They can make one hell of a park when they have the snow.

All the snow went to the PNW this time around. Hopefully it is balanced next year, so the everybody has good times (but more snow here wouldnt be bad).
