Judging required speed for a virgin hit?

So sometime this week we are gonna shoot a road gap. My buddy built two booters for it today. One hit is 50'x35' and one is 60'x45'.

How is the best way to judge how much speed you need if its a gap that no one has ever hit?

speed is hard to judge, but on a serious note if you need to ask this question i also think you might need to ask yourself should i be hitting a 50-60 foot road gap?

is it 50-60 foot of FLAT?? cause that means ur kicker has to be gigantesc and you need a whole lot of speed and i agree if you're not sure about the speed i think you should ask yourself the question if you really wanna hit that?

haha ya, i would want to be on the faster side cus i'd rather overshoot a little on a short landing than land flat on a road.

hmmm, speed is a tricky thing, and gauging appropriate speed just comes with lots of experience. A road gap can have some pretty bad consequences, so if you're not even too sure how to gauge speed on your own accord, like others have said before me, should you even hit it?

Either way, speed is probably your friend, so if it has plenty of landing, at least you could go further than needed.

Its 50' high with 35' of horizontal distance to cover, so I don't think I need a ton of speed. The landing is pretty big and very steep.

There will be pics, HDV, and helmet cam footy.

pffft the only question you need to ask is this:

"TODAY is a good day to die!!!!"

which isnt actually a question, more of a statement.

If the run out is clear, maybe the best course of action would be to go as fast as possible and shmob it.

Stand at the lip and throw a snowball off the end. Steezily.

I don't really know why, but all the pros do it, so that's what I always do.

get a buddy who has experience hitting jumps, your buddy mus then stand a good distance from your jump but paralel to your in-run, speed check that shit and from your buddys angle he should be able to tell if you would have cased and died, over shot and hopefully not die, or land perfect

As everyone else is saying speed is hard to judge, I think I read it is a 35 foot gap? How steep is the in run? How long is the landing, if you have to much speed are you going to land on flats and pull a Dumont?

or you can just stop being a pussy and sack up and do it. Remember to get the virgin hit on video, just in case you come up short or go long and break something. Then you can send the video to Most Shocking on Truetv and can be a star for 5 mins. Or maybe you can send it to MTV for that show scarred or whatever it was.

i would speed check a bunch before then when you feel kind of comfortable send it.

when are you guys planning on hitting this? i might be in if its next weekend/

as long as the landing is big, then speed is your friend. and once your going at it, you should be able to feel how much speed you need, just slide up and stop on the lip a few times

Can't remember what it was but I saw a snowboarding flick where they sent random dudes off freshly built jumps...called them the TRANNY FINDERS. Sounds like you might need one haha

do u mean its a 35 foot road gap to the landing and the jump u built is 50 INCHES high? cuz that makes sense....kinda...

My man, if you have to ask this question you should not hit the jump. I'll tell you a story about a sick Tahoe local boy named Terry Cook. He was doing swan dive front flips off palisades back in the 80's. Dude was a sick skier and new what was up.
In about 94 or so he goes to do a gap over mt rose highway. He had done lots of shit like this. He came up about 3 feet short. Broke both legs 1 in 20 places the other in over 40. They wanted to amputate. They managed to save his leg but he is a lot shorter than he used to be.

gahahaha that made my day.

seriously though, you gotta speed check it a couple times until you feel the speed is right. its been mentioned, but if you cant judge the speed for something like this, i wouldnt recommend hitting it unless you have someone who can.

yah i know unless you want to die! everyone knows it takes a good 3 days to build a decent jump and even by the time your done road patrol will blow it up

Guinea pigged it yesterday. It was $$$.
