Judge Strikes Down Part of Patriot Act

well, I knew it was unconstitutional act made by the republicans to spy on the people that were anti-bush. Its sad when the government does not trust the people that voted them in.And try to hide it by calling it the patriot act...how low.

The conservatives tried to make something similar to the patriot act, but struck down by the liberal government. But the the conservatives try...why said it will help the air India bombing case.big bullshit.

I disagree. I think the Patriot Act truly began with the noble intention of preventing another 9/11. Think about it, spying on people who are anti-Bush serves no purpose whatsoever. Most people who are anti-Bush have no qualms about declaring their dislike for Bush; the Patriot Act wouldn't dig up any dirt in that regard. It was designed as an anti-terrorism tool, but it just vastly overstepped constitutional privacy laws.
 
So you just live along your life as a good boy doing and believing whatever everyone tells you. If it makes you happy, keep on going. The truth is the government had nothing to do but spy on innocent people that contests the war. Nobody was charged under this act, nor any plots have been averted. Terrorists are smart, unlike most people, they can find loophole and study them.If terrorists were to strike, nothing will stop them.

Canada, Great Britten averted one without this act, therefore, this act is spying the wrong people and not catching anyone.

The Patriot Act should be repealed because it's unconstitutional, but not because it was designed to spy on working-class registered democrats.

That it ended up going awry and compromising basic freedoms, sure, but you're thinking that the government is a liiiiiiitle too malicious if you honestly think that all they wanted to do was spy on the opponents to the war. Oh, and that logic in your last sentence is UNBELIEVABLE. Besides the fact that you don't know if it has helped or not, the fact that Britain and Canada averted attacks without it doesn't mean that they don't have law enforcement and counter terrorist units that are able to piece together info that falls through our cracks and that the Act is supposed to catch. Also, lest i remind you, Britain did get bombed. So did Madrid.

And i hate the patriot act, i really do... I can't believe i have to correct people and somehow defend it... This is what happens when EVERYTHING a government is considered malicious... Seriously, stop it.

And about Madrid: by your faulty misconstrued logic, Madrid not having a Patriot Act in place, and still being bombed, means that... oh wait, you said it your own damn self. If there is nothing we can possibly do to stop terrorists, then any measures to stop them are spying on the wrong people. So anything counter terrorist spain has going is spying on the wrong people, because it didn't work.

And what did Canada save itself from?
 
The CIA knew about terrorists being trained to fly planes and not being trained to land them. There was a shit load of information they knew about prior to 9/11 that was never acted upon. The general consensus is that the Government knew alot about what was going on but didnt do anything to stop it. Alot of people especially Bush have been looking for a reason to go to war in the middle east. There are just to many damn coincidences to ignore them and think that the USA is just so innocent.

There was an article that came out about a month ago straight from the CIA that said they failed miserably on working together with other intelligence to figure out shit, so basically we did set ourselves up for 9/11.

Seriously, just because you live in the US now, doesnt give you the right to tell us exactly how it is and exactly what happened six years ago. What, how old were you then? like 14? pffft
 
Ron Paul said the part about the the pilots being able to fly and not land in the freaking republican debate three days ago if you would have watched it.

They were asking him why he thought the CIA etc was a waste of time and money and he was going off about how unefficient they are and they are basically the reason 9/11 happened in his opinion, because they fucked up and cant even communicate properly.

The CIA article I mentioned was released to the public on the net about a month ago and you can find it on the internet. Find it for yourself.
 
Not everyone is anti-socialism. I'm pro socialized healthcare, and such things. But not as far beyond socialism as communism, no worries.

I'd be down for voting for Ron Paul in the next election, except for I've given up on voting, because of the electoral college. There's no point anymore in my opinion :(

That he wanted to go into Irak despite 9/11, sure. It doesn't mean he orchestrated 9/11, a feat no one in the administration could have pulled off, given our track record before and since.

I think you and i agree, unless you think we planned 9/11, as in, actually planned the attacks, instead of merely being schmucks and doing nothing.

Damn, you guys are looking too far into things here. We should all be rejoicing the fact that we still have some competant people in power in the system and that the checks and balances still work to keep unconstitutional acts and laws to remain in place.
 
Are they? How would we know if there were people working behind the scenes? What if our government is controlled by people we didn't vote for?

The system worked, didn't it? An unconstitutional law was repealed by the Judiciary Branch of the government. Checks and balances my man. Checks and balances.

Many bills/acts are passed without being read by the people in power. They have people that read it for them and say, "Hey this sounds good, pass it."

Shitty I know, but that's how things are kept moving up there.

really? there wasn't anything to do with the supreme court, and the popular vote and electoral vote coincided... AND people realized Kerry was nothing to be too thrilled about.
