looking for a new pow ski this year im 5'7 and round 75kg im loking in the size range of round 184 to 190

i have pretty much narrowd it down to these two skis. the ski will be less jib specific i intend on spending 90% of the time charging lines.

ive heard people saying that the gotamas are stiff, is this torsionaly stiff or just the general felx of the ski? how do the jp's ride in general?

basically im looking for a torsionally strong ski that will take abuse. which ski is better for this?

is there any other ski that may be worth wile looking at all suggestions are welcome

cheers

Gotamas aren't very stiff and they're a lot better for charging stuff than the JP's. Get the 183's for more technical skiing or the 190's for big turns and big air.

dont listen to this guy. total bullshit. gotamas are pretty stiff for a twin, specially in a 190. the 183 is a great flex for all mountain, and the 190 for bigger people and/or more big mountain type of stuff. but yeah, gotamas...pretty stiff. juliens are not at all.

Wow you just called out one of the best big mountain skiers on this site. You shall be smited.

They would be fairly stiff for most people on this site, but I'm basing my judgement upon what he is looking for, and that is a charging ski. Gotamas are one of the softest big mountain skis out there, especially when compared to the pure big mountain boards like the squad, LP, mojo 103, etc. 190 would definitely be pushing it for him, but if he rips then that's what is needed. I know depierrear5 rides 190's and he only weighs 135 or something like that. As for the JPvJ's, I totally agree with you. Those are more of a backcountry jump ski than anything else, and most people will overpower them if they get into a big line.

i was mainly talking about what you said, that gotamas are stiff for kids on this sight. i hate it when people say like "karmas are pretty stiff" or things like that. the skis you listed, those are stiff, and i love those skis. such a good list you have goin. but yeah, i dunno how this kid skis, i know that gotamas are pretty popular for people up here, theyre a nice one ski quiver. and very managable in smaller sizes for smaller people. lots of girls ski the smaller sizes up here.

and i sitllthink that gotamas in a 183 would be a really good pick for this kid.

no i shant. i know my big mountain stuff very well. i doubted the kid who made the thread wanted a pure charging ski like an igneous, bsquad, some capitals, head 105 etc. i made an assumption off his description that he still liked to mess around, so i thought twin. suggestions i would recommend are the Gotama which iv been impressed by alot, especially for all around skiing, and the ANT which has a good rep for being stiff, yet playable when needed.

I love my jp's When its deep here on hood they charge forwards or backwards in the deep stuff. They might even be to much ski for were i ski at. I got them at a good price though so i aint complainin.

thanks heaps for the help i think ill probs head towards the gotamas

still not sure on size... last year a i had a pair of the vicious 179 but found them way to short

so i dont know wether 183 would be too similar in size

thats why im thinking 190, that and i used to race for a few years so im pretty used to a longer ski by now.

im not so much worried bout the felx on the ski in terms of tip to tail but i just wanted to make sure that it was torsionally rigid.

word of advice. my 179 pistols...are ridiculously soft, and short. im like 5'11 and 160lbs, and ski really well, and i juts cant get over them. i heard from so many people how good of an all mountain ski they were, but when im charging or just skiing fast, they chatter and feel unstable to me. i was not impressed by the pistol, i dunno how the vicious is.

one think to think about though is the 189 Vicious and Pistol are supposed to be stiffer and built more strong. im still not impressed and im gonna steer clear of em in the future. i dunno, id definitly demo the pistols before hand, i wish i had. and i wish i would have gotten the gotamas. i was in the same position that you are in now. right now i think i want the 190s, but im taller than you, and i tele, so those are some factors. i think for a 5'7 guy though youd be happy with the 183s.

183 gotamas would probably be fine unless you ski at a big mountain and you ride really hard. I have a pair of 189 pistols for compairson and they're good, but not as good as the gotamas are. If you like pointing them straight and hitting 30-50 footers go for the 190's, but if you're not doing movie star skiing the 183's are still super stable and will keep you floating.

you might also want to conside Prophet 100s in a 186. medium flex, rip the powder and lines. just another suggestion, there's a reason both Powder and Freeskier loved it as the best overlooked ski.

i love my jps. best pow skis i've ever skied. There not so soft there just noodles but not still by any means. such a fun ski. and since there so light 188 would be sweet for you. Gots are good too, but there more of a charging ski where the JP is more of a BC ski, but it can still charge.

ye definatly some things to think about there,

does anyone know how the gotamas comapre to the vicious in terms of weight this year. last yr i found the gotama a good bit heavier than the vicious if thats the case this year i might just settle for a 183 mounted slightly back of traditional. cause its pretty safe to say that a heavier ski will feel much longer in the deep stuff.

if they are the same weight i may as well go the 190 cause as i said before i dont mind a longer ski.

I have the green ones, I think they're 04-05 or something. But they're definitely noodles, and that is why it's my AT setup.
