JP Auclair is Reasons

sick.

So I watched Reasons the other day and got really quiet bored watching it through JPs segement and tempted as I was to skip it decided to watch the whole movie through the first time. The snow was amazing but why not just have a couple of shots of the snow instead of a whole segment? And dosn't everyone buy ski movies to watch the skills of pros and no offence to JP but I'm sure many people on NS (not me cause im a park rat) could do what JP did in his segment.

Me and my brother had a bit of an argument over it him saying it was sick an me not so sick. So I was just wondering what fellow NSers think of JPs segment and if many of you would be happy to watch his segment all day like I would be to watch Andreas.

Im not trying to hate in JP hes an amazing skier Im just wondering how people found his new segement and if people enjoy watching this type of skiing that PBP seems to have a lot of these days or would rather enjoy some BC booters and park/urban (Or crazy BC lines which are sickkk).

i enjoyed it. it wasn't my favorite in the movie but i thought it was neat. i ski east coast so i never rly get to see powder like that and the night skiing aspect i thought was neat to it. so yeah i enjoyed it but at the same time i can see where your coming from

Yea they did have some sick creative shots and the night riding was dope but to me I think they could of cut down the shots by like a half and still have the same effect on the viewer and then JP could throw in some crazy BC lines or something..

Totally agreed haha I just made this thread to see what people on NS were into and if people would watch JPs segment on repeat quiet happily

the segment wasn't about throwing down ridiculous shit, it was about having fun in pow and just skiing to ski because its fun.

i agree it is a little slow but I think its something every skier can relate to. i still think its good though.

i love it to death.
the night skiing with chris and his narration at the begining makes it for me. biggg timme!!
actually next to douglas' helmat cam shots, this was my fav part of the movie.

sounds like you are a park rat who cannot ski powder. i dont like you putting down jp when he has done so much for our sport and is a super nice guy and awesome skier. powder is the best part of skiing and i suggest you stop spending your whole time doing twirly whirlies and skiing the wrong way on those two tipped 'newschool' skis of yours and shred some gnar with real skiers...... i bet your one of those kids who bounce up like a goofball when they land then say to their buddies 'did i look like tall womisçh?'

hahaha well I am a park rat who can't ski powder, but a big reason for that is that the powder where I live is crap and to get to the crap powder you have to hike which I am not a fan of. We get mayby like 2 days a year of powder and I'm sure that powder doesn't come close to the powder your use to but I love to ski it none the less. But I do plan to go to Japan to ski some 'real' snow :P And I did'nt mean to put JP down at all hes one of the pioneers of is sport I just wasnt a fan of his segment. Also I don't try and immate T-Wall as sking is all about you own style

i honestly think the opening powder segment with jp is the best. poor boyz's opening segments are always amazing powder segments

i dont know what you find amusing, i was insulting you. i have actually skied nz a lot and while it is not as good as overseas the powder is a lot of fun when it comes. if you learn to ski powder you will realise what everyone is talking about when they say jp had a good segment, you dont know what your mising. no, you did put down jp because you hated on his segment and his segment is pretty much an expression of who he is. you dont immate t-wall? just how old are you? i am probably wasting my time bothering to reply to a park rat 9 year old who cant spell and wants to breed with wall tommisch

First of all I dont think the thread creator was ever trying to put down JP at all. I like watching JP but I didnt particularily like this segment. I thought if they had a different song and made it shorter it wouldve been better. Some of the shots were good but others got repetitive and im not a big fan of the black and white. Reasons is by far my favorite movie of the year and the one ive watched the most so far but I think it is a mix of the best segements of the year with segments that got long and boring at times. IMO

whats stuck up your butt? the kid responded nicely, saying he just can't relate and that he skis for fun, not just to be wallisch. yeah, he did put down jps segment (which was sick btw) but thats his opinion.

I find it amusing on the assumption you made of me, I have nothing wrong with JP I just wasn't a fan of his segment. And how you were trying to say that I don't think JP is a nice guy or a good skier? I've talked to JP before and he was super nice to me and he is one best skiers in pretty much the history of freestyle skiing. I also found it amusing that you brought in T-Wall in your insult, insulting him when you were just insulting me on how you thought I was insulting JP, when I was just stating I wasn't a fan of his segment. Hypocrite? And btw im 16, so I still have plenty of years to shred pow when im to old for park :)

People are entitled to their own opinions, no need to be a prick man, it was a sick segment and one of my favorites but if you never ski pow i understand why you wouldn't relate and enjoy it as much.

Reasons was boring.

I dont understand the fascination with boring slow paced movies these last 2 or 3 seasons.

There is not one complete section in the whole movie. everything is segregated. I could care less about a montreal or some other obscure rail mission or the story behind it, or how you went to Japan and then have 200 shots of cruiser tree pow, shits boring and doesnt make a video part.

Jp used to have the raddest parts, like the closing in ski porn or war whichever where it was real long and he had bc big mountain boooters park urban trees and everything. Plus the urban part was sick and creative.

I had this whole thing going here on ns about how ski movies are just as good as snowboard flicks, but now Im not sure. After watching some of the stuff that is out, I would say that we havnt fallen behind progression wise, there is still shit happening at a lightning rate, but production and creativity wise... all the majors sure dont have it. It makes me sad that were still trying to copy the robot food formula, docu-story based parts, which at the time were awesome and done with some sort of rhyme or reason (pardont the pun) but with this last batch of movies... fuck the continuity right? who needs it.

This is just my opinion, oh and I would like to see the actual progression once in a while, and maybe some fuckin rock and roll eh?

oh and just because it is so tired, enough with the time lapses of snow falling and moonlight and gay couples making out please... its just so over.

flame on!

Favorite segment of the year.

Some of the best pow shots ever captured, and it's a pretty special thing for anyone who's skied in Japan before to watch, because they perfectly captured what it's all about over there. It made me start counting the days till I get to go back. And for anyone who hasn't been to Japan...it should make you want to go.

As Jeremy Jones said; I dont get how riders think they can be called pro and have 4 min segments of skiing pow.

"It's called stepping it up, NOT living it up."

Now with that siad JP has ALWAYS been my favorite skier but I did find the Reasons segment weak. And before you rip on me for not being a pow rider, trust me,,,,I am.

Its a different perspective on filming skiers that people are not used to. Everyone likes the crazy fast past edits with a bunch of all the sick shot put together. I enjoyed this because it shows everyone why we all like to ski. They really could portray the EPIC conditions they had in japan and made into a really nice segment to the movie. I enjoyed it a lot and it is one of my favorite segments this whole year.

I personally liked that section of the movie. I love watching pow shots it was also cool that JP was there while I was watching it at west mountain/

JP and CB are sick as fuck. They both destroy pow, have been in the game for far longer than most of us, and crush handrails/ park features all the time.

Unfortunately, their Japan segment, as well as the layout, editing, flow, and music in REASONS was about as exciting as driving across Iowa/Nebraska while all your friends are slaying chest deep snow in Utah on the company budget. I love park, it's so fun and you can get very creative, but I absolutely love POW, and ski it as much as possible. Both are very fun, but when it came to watching reasons, EVERYTHING IN THE MOVIE, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF Quebec Handrails & Andreas's segment was not that enjoyable. The voice overs reminded me of Warren Miller circa 1996, the music was terribly unoriginal (Foo Fighters!, let's be serious PBP, that song sucked more than Freeze Magazine being notoriously shitchanned by Transworld. [Futhermore, you were the 9th or 10th production company to use Kids by MGMT, I know it's a catchy song bu it's not that fresh when everyone has it in their film]).

Don't get me wrong, Reasons had some of the most stunning cinematogrpahy ever captured on skis. The shots were positively fantastic. I've never seen follow cams/ heli shots/ paraglider shots that looked that sick. You created some innovative features and absolutley destoryed the urban segment. Your athletes are unparalleed and the best in the world. I've never seen anything like Simon boosting a QP. I've never see pow as deep as Japan, and I've never seen athletes stomp the shit out of dub cork 10z. I've never seen athletes slay mini-golf lines and handrails equally as well (Mike Henituk).

Despite the fact that you had the perfect roster of athletes and some of the best cinematogphers in the industry, that movie exasperating to watch. Some of the editing simply didn't make sense. Inruns to rails were cut, cerain features were cut, and certain tricks were cut up so much the viewer lost sight of what the athlete did.

I absolutely love Poor Boyz. You guys are a tremendous influence on my skiing and there was a time in my life when I watched your movies 2-3 times a day. You helped me fall in love with this sport and I can't thank you enough for putting your soul into getting kids stoked on a daily basis. Unfortunately, Reasons was not up to par.

I purchased your film, as well as Such is Life, Turbo, Claim, Slamina, Road to Nowhere, and Under the Influence this year. After watching your film 8 or 10 times, I decided to put it on the DVD shelf for good. It's just not put together as well as some of the other films this year. Take a movie like Turbo for example, Every segment gets me pumped to ski, not nostalgic of "Why I ski" and although your film is kinda enjoyable to fall asleep with, I would much rather play turbo or watch youtube edits prior to going skiing.
