Journal - Let's Talk About It

Yeah. Journal. Let's talk about it. Wicked skiing, fun vibe, got me stoked on skiing for sure, and in my opinion the best music in terms of content, flow, and relation to film. What do you all think?

Skiing was excellent, music was good for the most part, quite like the editting, wasn't a fan of the incessant narration which was nethier particularly funny or interesting in my view.

Don't get me wrong though, the skiing was top drawer, particularly some of the ridiculous sw pow shit- the talking just annoyed me a bit.

Do you think it's worth getting?Should I get Journal and Reasons, or one or the other(If only one, which one?)?

depends what you're into. Journal was almost all pow, mini golf lines with a bit of insane urban thrown in and a tiny bit of park. Reasons had a lot more park/pipe stuff and i actually enjoyed it way more than i was expecting. try to get both if you can as they are both extremely good.

if i had assess both:

reasons:

good- outstanding from andreas hatveit and tim durtschi in particular, mark abma also killed it. lots of other good seggies in there too.

bad- quite a lot of footage you will have seen before from JOSS, dumont world record etc

journal:

good- outstanding switch pow landings, mid pillow line 180s etc from charlie ager especially but others too. it's the most technical switch pow stuff you will have seen thus far but perhaps not quite as smooth/stylie as the nimbus guys... also, lots of sick urban- nosepresses and stuff. some good music too- mostly electronica kinda stuff.

bad- i found the constant interviews a little annoying, thats all.

I would try to get them both and complement them with tgr's under the influence if you like your 'holy shit' big mtn movies. this is that...

Charlie Ager is REDIC. That 360 to bonk 180 thing is inssanne.

Symms has a good review of it somewhere. Overall epic movie for sure.

I liked the skiing and it was deffanatly a dope movie, charly ager is a crazy mother fucker. Kinda dissapointed in it though. I dont know why but i left not at all stoked to ride. When i was watching it i was into it but something about it just left me wanting more, worth watching once, not buying imo

I thought Journal was awesome. I thought Jeff could have been a bit more creative on the shameless sponsor plugs, like whistler brewing company. But the movie was awesome. And really good skiing to.

Are you challenging Charlie to double fist while zero spinning in pow? THe idea is great but you really wouldn't be able to tell what he was doing in the shot

Turbo, I saw most of Journal and it was pretty good. Not crazy tricks but more solid skiing on hard terrain. Turbo really does live up to the hype that everyones been giving it, it is more park focused than Journal for sure but it also has backcountry segments that are just as good, IMO.

I thought Journal was an absolutely terrific movie. I have always been a fan of Theory-3, and I feel this years release was light years ahead of the rest.

I hate to admit it, but I'm not a huge fan of backcountry footage, especially the same shots over and over again. This video has an amazing mix of both BC, park and urban, really well put together, with a wicked soundtrack.

This movie grabbed my attention from the first trick and held it

throughout, I've seen a bunch of this years flicks and this is my

favorite by far. My roomate, who grew up skiing on the east coast, refuses to watch any movie with backcountry footage, but he loved Journal. Every shot is a banger!

i didnt like journal the first timee but as i watched it a few more times it grew on me and now i think its so sick... charly is ridic and that last baker parts so dope

i didnt like turbo that much... t-rain/t-wall/extras were all super sick tho

Charley Ager and Dane Turdsdur killlllled it. It was even better watching it on my dad's new 1080p flat screen that he impulsively bought.

Charlie Ager is unreal.

Aside from that, mediocre soundtrack, decent editing, but sick skiing.

I wish they had some better close up shots of all the switch landings. I think it would have given more of a wow factor. Soundtrack was good, didn't mind the interviews, wish we got to see more of Max Hill, but it sounded like he got injured before the park shoot.

I thought the editing was done well, I didn't mind the interviews, it broke up the skiing well, so it didn't get repetitive, and I thought the little look in to the skiers personalities was fine.

Charley Ager is rediculous. He seems like a real fun guy, and absolutely killed it. One of my favorite skiers for sure, and seems relatively unknown and underrated.

amazing movie, I'd buy it again

I think it was very close to being as good as Turbo.

I like the speaking stuff, i guess i find it interesting to know a little bit of the story behind the shots and it's good cos the dialog seems a lot more genuine where reasons felt a bit too scripted. i think it adds to the feel of the movie in the way that you can tell the guys in it all all good friends and you get the impression that if they weren't all shit hot pro dawgs they'd still hang out together and make the film.

The pow in the film is amazing, there is so much yet it doesn't get boring, so many crazy tricks and spots and more creative bc stuff than turbo and reasons. this is where this film excells. although the style isn't like that of idea the tricks are at least as good.

the urban well what the guy a little above me is on about i don't know, it's got some crazy tech stuff, def techer than reasons and getting close to turbo espcially when ced is on screen, he does stuff i've never seen before and max hill just steezes it out so hard.

the park is good but mainly from jib jam and mainly recycled footage, nothing you've never seen before really.

the music is good imo, it's mellow, it sort of helps focus your attention on the action and the vibe.

my favorite thing about journal is that it makes me wanna hang out with my friends and not nececerilly ski, but it would be good.

If you lived in Canada (you might, I didn't check) and were given free beer, you would put them in the movie all you could. That shit is expensive up North of the border.

in a nutshell, I thought Journal was a step up from PNW (especially when it comes to viewing repetition), and Ager had a yummy seg, but overall, I just didn't feel it too much. There is just something about theory-3 that just leaves me under-stoked. The editing is just meh, the skiing good, but just something underwhelming. I try, I try.

so i went down to the store and bought journal today, came home, watched it, yea - it's sick! I think I may have a bias opinion on the matter, but i'm saying "Best video of the year".

It's definetly up there, i've only seen three though and do like turbo just a tiny bit better.

I feel that pbp did a good job of capturing the feel of Journal in the Mt Baker and Charlie ager segments of EDIAS. but I would have loved to have another Journal this year

i was watching that again the other night good urban segments, ager kills it, and the best editing theory 3 ever had
