JOSS: Where is the $money$ coming from?

JOSS helicopter, heli time, clothing, athlete expenses, jumps ect...Someone, somewhere, is putting allot of money into this one. Where is all this money coming from? I understand its all sponsor money, but really, this has to be one of the most extravagant events of the season...hell, ever. What exactly do the sponsors expect to gain out of this? There can be only so much exposure in a filming contest with such a limited amount of riders. It would be interesting to see the total cost of all this...Thoughts?

Jon's sponsors, most likely. Cross are huge in Europe, plus, Are pretty much do whatever Jon wants for him. Plus Head's lke one of the biggest sporting brands out there, and I bet Jon's gotta a pretty fat wallet too.

well the way i am thinking of it is kind of the academy awards of skiing. like with the goodie bags and just extravagance of it all. it has a bunch of good athletes and i think the sponsors gain as much from this as any other event. I mean in the freeskiing community everyone knows about JOI or now JOSS and everyone expects it to be the dopest big air of the year and that is what Jon does every year and sponsors and the public know that. my 2 cents

the 70 cans of snuss? wtf is that? do they mean snuff? like chewing tobacco, or am i having a blonde moment and missing something

Yes, of course it is all sponsor money. I acknowledged that. It just seems very, very extravagant for what will actually be gained. Rad jumps, rad shred, ect...but why the overspending on frivolous luxuries?

Snus is fucknig amazing. Hands down. It's a good time.

70 Tins of snus is a lot of money....

...Thank god for a redbull sponsorship. If Redbull puts money into dumb ass events like idiots building 'flying machines' and jumping into the water...then they will happily buy Peter O 70 tins of snus and shell out absurd amounts of green for whatever Jon says is cool...

without redbull our sport would be....well i don't even want to think of where our sport or where most any other extreme sport would be

Does anyone here feel like The Candide Invitational would cost more? It seems like it has more features, and the design aspect like the castle thing would cost more time and money.

Im not sure which one costs more, i mean yeah candide had more that 4 features but you gives them heli rides, big blow out parties, and jon has lie 3 events right now JOI, JOSS, NAO

Skiing is a much higher profile sport in countries like Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, France.........Guaranteed it will be all over the national TV, media, etc there.

I feel like there's no such thing as over the top. Keep in mind most of these athletes were paying for their own trips out of pocket a few years ago. The fact that Jon is willing to give them one of the best ski trips of their life is incredible. What do the sponsors get out of it? Massive media exposure via every film, magazine, and even the website you're reading right now. This thread is making every dollar worth while.

The event looks great Jon. I doubt you're surfing NS during your event but if you are, give schmuck a pretty blonde for me.

JONs ANSWER TO MONEY IN JOSS!

First off all I read all haha! But I have been bad at visiting in the last few days but I did have some time to catch up today..

As for the money in this emount I will let you know that we do not at all have a budget that is from a nother world.... I run this event for less then 110 K Euro, that is most likely less then most events out there, ( a city ramp with snow on is 250-300 K just to build..) so in numbers we are small, but I do know where to use the money for the guys to be stoked... But my goal is to up our budgets as the event grows and keep pushing the limits for what is possible!

And for the recor I can honestly say that I make slim to no maney of this event...I do it becoase I am a compeditor in all ways and I want to make the best event ever even if it would come out of my pocket. So big ups to the cmopanies that made this event happen!

Now I have to go ice my knee as I hurt it a bit today but I should be ok for tomorrow!

So I hope you enjoy the shots and vids.. Crill will be making updates everyday.. should be one out in thenext few houres from the Hip today...

BTW the Trickbuster was retardedly big! (we might take it down a bit if we hit it again...

BR JON

There ya go people. this is why NS is the best site on the internet. Hope to see all of you that aren't at JOSS at Loon this weekend!

not nearly. snuss comes in little pouches that you put in your lip. you can swallow the flavor instad of having to spit all the time and it has something like 1/1000 of the carcinogens. it also got me wicked buzzed

Although that thing was HUGE that was (yet again) one of the smoothest jumps I have ever seen hit.

You should make a summercamp and build all the jumps! That would be the sickest, most amazing camp ever. Take High North's lane back from momentum and just have your own pro breeding ground in whistler during the summer...that would be something worth investing in. I would go in a heartbeat.

The videoblog updates have be retardly awesome! Please keep them coming and posted on NS (because thats the only way I see em :P)

joss= something like 8 features, spread around differnet location, not all packed in one slope like the candide is.

Jon ahev a whole bunch of sponsors that supports him a lot. plus the super sessionis a really good way for riders to get a whole bunch of shots in a movie so companies like oakley who sponsors half of the athlete listing for this comp are probably throwing some cash down to help organising it too.

If powder was able to put on things like superparks and get resorts to build big ass jumps, I guess it shouldnt be that much of a big deal fro Jon to gather enought support from his entourage and contacts to throw down cash for such an event,.

wii would like to play

not entirely true........i think snuff is just a term for fine ground tobacco. it can be snorted like the majority of snuff or it can be dipped like copenhagen snuff would be

Big Ups Jon for always keeping NS members informed of EVERYTHING.

I remember when the videoblog started and the reason behind it was to show exactly what goes on behind the scenes for a pro skier - I'm stoked to say that is exactly what you have achieved - plus more.
