Joss Partner 2009

sweet call Symms is the shit (on and off the hill) and backflips like no other (with the possible exceptions of Van Valin and Sturbenz). Plus it's kind of funny given all the time people have taken to post other suggestions without once mentioning Symms.

lame... should have gone with LJ, just perpetrates lame Colorado skiers going places and filming it, cant wait to see olenic and sims not do anything

The problem is that there is a huge difference between hitting park jumps and the size Jon tends to put together... I kind of doubt LJ has had much of an opportunity to even hit jumps like that, there aren't a lot of them around. So while LJ slays regular park features the JOSS is a totally different game.

delorme would have ate everybody for breakfast and that would have ruined the comp so i guess i can see why you didnt pick him.

All due respect, but you really believe that John Symms is more up to the task than LJ?

I love Symms, but come on....he's not even in LJ's league. I respect the choice because those two are absolutely hilarious (soulja boy anyone?), but obviously Colby wasn't looking for the most talented skier available as at least a dozen better skiers were suggested.

I dont wanna seem like a downer here but whats the point of giving our opinion if you didnt listen to it at all. I dont even think i saw Symms listed once by us NSers if at all. I dunno just my thoughts, But good luck hope its a sick seg

Even though nobody said symms hes stiill a sick skier and a real solid choice. LJ would have been sick but symms and colby should make a sick seg

Not in his league in what sense? I mean from what I've seen from both of them in total Symms is a much better skier overall; that's because I've only ever seen LJ do park rails and park jumps. I've seen symms do some pretty large stuff in the BC (shredding + jumps) as well as park, ie Long Story Short part, double stager line in War. But we'll have to see how the video comes out, I'm sure it will be entertaining. Maybe LJ has tons of game and variety to go along with his mastery of all rails and park jump prowess. It wouldn't really surprise me, I just haven't seen it. Do you have some footy of him doing that kind of stuff?

I'm basing my opinion on footage of LJ from Such is Life, where he absolutely slays, Head for the Hills, and traveling circus/clown school edits from this year where he's throwing doubles, spinning both ways, and grabbing the shit out of everything. I can't say that I've seen LJ hit an 80' ft. jump (though he almost assuredly has), but I think it's fair to say that he's more than capable.

John is sick of course, but he hasn't really been skiing competitively a whole lot since his injury last year and has been focusing on commentating and his expn blog. Other than the edit he made early this fall (which was cool and all, but clearly didn't showcase any "JOSS worthy" tricks), the last footy of his I can recall was from Yeah Dude. His seg was fun to watch, but clearly his strength is not in throwing stylish and technical tricks over manicured jumps. His pipe skiing, spontaneous backflipping, and particularly the shot of him skiing that vertical ice wall, really struck me...his jumping not so much - which is what this contest is all about.

I didn't intend to take anything away from Symms, but I think it's pretty clear that LJ, Martini, Ahmet, Hornbeck, Liam, Brown, Delorme, and probably a handful of others, would be better suited to a contest that is essentially just lapping a massive jump. I bet Symms would agree.

All that being said, John and Colby are hysterical and will probably put together a fun segment.

i don' know cuz i saw an edit of symms up at hood i believe and the guy was destroying it
