this and triple strums post pretty much sum things up. In order for women to be able to compete at a similar level to men in a sport where knee strength is critical, they would really have to dedicate a ton of time in the gym to building the full leg strength required to support their knees, and even then, the actual ligaments, are still only about 70% as strong. I am by no means saying that it cant happen, as women athletes in plenty of other flippy spinny sports can hammer with men (gymnastics, arials, diving, etc). What I see as the defining factor in a sport like freeskiing VS those, is this. to become a good freeskier requires a huge amount of mental drive, personal motivation, and a strong desire to BE THE BEST. Theres no one there telling you what to do, its all about challenging yourself. Women, by NATURE, have far less of a mental need to do those kind of things, and to push themselves to that kind of level, where serious injury is almost a certainty (at least eventually). Men, are way more likely to be able to face and challenge those consequences, as its that kinda attitude that brought home wolly mammoth meat, beat weaker males, and innovate new things.
In more structured sports, there is a coach, instructing, guiding, and helping to shape her into a competitive athlete from an early age, and hence these women grow up to be significantly more capable than a girl who hasnt dedicated her life to those pursuits. boys, by nature, just kinda grow up that way, and certainly have the upper hand in this respect.
Men and women are different. like strum said, no ones better than the other, just different. skiing is a sport that plays to mens strengths much more than womens. Im the first to whole heartedly support womens sports, but its not worth insulting if you dont know why its that way, and it certainly is not insinuating that women CAN'T be there, they just dont typically have the same kind of NEED that men do to get there.
