Jonah Williams riding for RMU

Via Jonah's IG it looks like he is riding for RMU this season. I am kind of surprised he made the switch from powerhouse Solomon.

IM glad. Hes a better fit there anyway imo. I lost a little respect the way they handle their riders. If they aint taking huge comps thy don't give a shit about em

^^^ There ya go. They dropped Gagnier - dude won a million X-games medals, he barely slowed down and they cut 'em. Or maybe he left. Either way, the company doesn't rep the sport and your hard earned dollars should be spent elsewhere.

gagnier is with Faction now right?

I think this is a beautiful change. I don't know any of the details as to why this transpired but I love this. Guys like Jonah should be riding for rider owned/ran brands like RMU. Consistent with others in this thread I'd agree that Salomon doesn't give a shit about us.

In my eyes Salomon is hardly a step above Nike when it comes to gettin involved with freeskiing.

Sales that Jonah would have driven would only funnel money back into their racing and competition skiing. Jonah would never have gotten what he deserves there and now instead he has an opportunity, along with Ben Smith and Ethan Swadburg, to help take RMU to the next level as a ski company. With that RMU would be able to further support their filming efforts and help fund awesome projects like Bad meets Evil and whatever else these talented skiers can dream up.

Stoked on the hype guys!! Thanks! I'm so stoked to join RMU, and be reppin' the Rippah with my boys Ethan and Ben. I doubt Salomon will even care that I left their team. I've wanted a personal, mutual relationship with a ski company for years, and have finally found that with RMU. Salomon wasn't showing me an ounce of the respect that I had been trying to earn for years. Stoked to be representing a company that will be just as stoked to represent me. Woohoo! Cheers, everyone. More changes to come #staytuned

Business is all about the bottom line. Do non-comp/film/urban skiers who appeal to people like you and I make a business millions or is it the BC/Race crowd? Basically, Salomon is all about making that money and it's all in racing and BC because those people have the money, not your typical park rat.

Oh word. So are they just not really focused on freeskiing in general? Or do they take their profits from freeskiing and pump it into race things? That's what I'm under the impression of and if that's true, that's lame as shit.

Well considering it seemed as if everyone and their brother was on Salomon back in 2010 (Dumont, Charlie Owens, Gagnier bros, Walker, Sammy Carlson, Mike Clarke, Martini, Niklas Eriksson, Tudor, Bobby Brown, Henrik for boots/outerwear, ect) and out of those people the only one left is Bobby since he is a major player still in big comps. Their focus has completely shifted to Backcountry and sidecountry shit in the past few years.

Do they take profits from freeskiing and put it into their other programs? I dont know but it if they did I wouldn't be entirely surprised.

You have to admit they saw the focus shift in the market way ahead of a lot of people. Each year back country touring is growing more and more . it is a sector of the market that is willing to pay more for gear than park skiers. They saw a open target and went for it and it has paid off for them.

My guess is they haven't made much profits in "park" since the G suit era (which was fucking terrible looking back lol).....

and in turn raised their target market up to 35 year olds yuppies who can afford their backcountry gear... lot's of companies who were predominately ingrained into Freeskiing pulled out of street, park, tricks type skiing and have put it back into the mountains.....I can't say I blame them because i don't think a kid who hit's street/parks is buying new outerwear or top of the line ski's all the time, but it definitely sucks for the riders who are trying to push that aspect of the sport and can't find support... tough situation for us indeed..

Good. Salomon makes pretty awful skis from what I've seen (except Rockr 100s). Fragile, Heavy, and they have undoubtedly the worst graphics out of any ski company.

RMU is like the polar opposite of Salomon.

Swear there was a rumor at one point they dropped Simon Dumont (hence his move to Head) due to injuries. It may not have been Dumont, though. Bottom line they have a shit rep for supporting freeski.

Also, their warranty and backing their product sucks. I snapped a pair of basically brand new bindings and they couldn't be bothered with any of it. I've since done the same with other companies and immediately responded to...even if the company couldn't help me they told me why and the reasoning. Salomon simply pushed me off to dealers and stuff.

I've don't have any Salomon skis, but I've read constantly that they simply aren't durable...hence why I don't own any.

Besides graphics, yeah you're right. But RMU graphics generally look shitty imo. The rippah is the first decent looking ski they've come up with and it just looks like a Surface graphic.

I actually don't mind the All Mountain skis for the most part. They have some decent artistry for the most point.

This season's aren't bad I'll agree but alongside Fatypus they've always stuck out to me as having awful graphics and great skis

Yah I've never liked Fat-y-Pus graphics at all. Ive heard they make pretty solid planks. I want to ride the rippahs so bad, but i have no valid reason to spend the money on them as i already have 2 pairs of skis. Maybe it will be something for the future

Faction don't pay their riders shit either. . Just ask corey vanular.. why do you think he rides for a Japanese ski company now even though his video part in Superproof was one of the top 3 urban segments of the year .. basically if you are not candide, Henrick, Wallisch or someone like that you don't get paid much to be a pro skier.. the only companies that pay their athletes well and treat them super well is Atomic and Armada. .

I'll ride salomon bindings and boots, but I wouldn't touch their skis. Nice move, I've always liked RMU.

If a company selling you park skis also makes race skis you can be damn sure that the money they make from us is partially going to their race programs. I wouldn't buy skis from a brand making race skis.

Like lemuel said, we can make exceptions for boots and bindings. those crossover and the ones said to be "park specific" are really just the same tech being marketed in a different way.

I've heard some negative stuff about RMU not paying their riders, but hopefully that's in the past Cuz their skis look rad and Jonah deserves some love as well

Stoked for you man. It was a good change, and will give you the opportunities you want/need. Can't wait to get back out and ride with you, Ethan, and Ben!

Out of curiosity, how much product was Salomon able to give you?
