Jon Olsson's tricks

is it just me or does Jon's tricks always look the same? it seems he always does a flat spin or a kang. i rarely see him do corks and stuff. is this just me or have other people seen the same thing?

i've seen other tricks in videos, but in comps yea, those are pretty standard tricks for him. i guees he just does what he needs to do to win. like why throw a cork 9, when you can throw a kang?

yeah i know what you mean. he throws a lot of flatspins and a lot of uncrossed grabs like criticals and japans. they look so clean... but its the perfect example of "jon makes it look so easy the judges forget that its hard". he can definitely cork, but i remember his older segments having more variety, like sick crossed up d-spin tailgrabs. would love to see those make a comeback

Does anyone else not like Jon that much? He seems more like a gymnist to me, throw super clean calculated flips on prestine park jumps. No doubt he is really good but that style of skiing isnt what i like.

I want to see him get out of the park a little.

in his last major movie segment (7 sunny days) he has some shots of big mountain skiing out of a heli.

oh yeah and he is trying to get into the olympics in FIS skiing! (not what you meant I know).

yeah like in one of his video blogs it snow like 6in in keystone and he was mad because the only had the small rails open

why are you talking about? jon is pioneering these crazy double flips and moving the sport forward, and you say your getting tired of it. and those flips have to be perfect, why would you want them to look all sloppy?

He did pioneer them but they are generic flips, i rarely see him mix them up with grabs or anything different. i was blown away the first time i saw him pull them but after a full year of competition and seeing nothing but the same flips in the same way, yeah i did get bored.

im not sure what footage you are looking at but jon thows every trick in the book (literally since he invented half of them).

As of late he has thrown kang flips with two grabs.... one for each flip.

i think this thread in a way could be a product of his video blog. if we saw simon doing cork 3s, misty 10s, and double fronts in a new edit every three days, they'd probably/definitely get old, or for any pro's skiers "bag" of favorite tricks.

it was only 3 inches, and it was early in the year, there was no coverage to go ski cliffs even if he wanted to, and it wasn't anything to get excited about, just annoying in the park.

^dear lord, by 2 minutes in i thought there was never going to be any skiing. editor with a helicopter fetish.

but anyways, the part of that edit that had skiing in it perfectly illustrates that jon can do it all, just chooses to throw lots of flats. wtvr, he does em well

Wasn't he training for X Games when that happened?

I agree, I feel they are a bit repetitive, but I think we'll see some crazy stuff from him in his movie, I think he was saving all the good stuff for the movie and not the video blogs. Besides, remember SSD? Sw misty 10? and he did a cork 9 tail like... 5 feet out of the pipe in the one videoblog haha. And there was an edit from the beginning of the season, oakley at loveland or something. Look in the front page video feed thing and you'll see some stuff he doesn't usually do.

SECONDED!!!! that was lame, all the same tricks, all spun the same direction. disappointing. who knows maybe hes just getting old and sore hahaha.

i was disappointed with him at big air x games. even though he had a lot to do with shaping the jump, jacob wester had to throw a kang before jon would sack up and do it. anyone else remember that? not meaning to hate on the guy hes got insane skills and done a huge amount for the sport but hes gone soft lately

When the Limone update first appeared on Jon's blog, this same argument came up. Lots of kids were wondering why he was just throwing flats/ kang flips. Jon himself posted in a thread addressing those who were questioning his variability. He said [paraphrase] that the limone shoot was specifically for MSP's film Claim. He enlightened we industry outsiders, explaining he was trying over and over to get three to four perfect shots. He said that this repetition is common at film shoots where pros arn't conserned with comp-like variation, but instead are set on getting a couple bangers.

GTS baby

jon olsson always does a kangaroo flip because its his signature trick and hes the best at doing it. melucuis!!!!!

you guys have been hitting the Crak pipe a few too many times,.... jon is the only skier who can do preety much every trick ... watch any segmant from the game onwards and watch... dspin 9, half cab shiffty all steezed out, cork 9 tail, back flip toxics, fakie misty 's to 10. fakie d-spins to 10, flat spins, rodeos fakie as well... cork 7s with near mutes. all sorts of shit... havent seen him spin that much to the right though but you know he can do it..,. jon has perfect fukin style , none of this faggot try hard after bang shit.. he has True style it oozes from every trick he does...its his style he didnt jump on the gorrila steez band wagon, and neither did candide... jon , tanner , henrick and candide are og ... they always have been the best and still to this day are the best...

jon wins big mountain comps. has won preety much every freeski comp and is killin it in alpine again now... have some fukin respect.. all of his doubles are sooo sick.... the guy holds the sickest freeski comps ever, dates a super hot chick and drives a fukin lambo and you kids wanna hate on that....

every day its tanner doesnt do this, jon doesnt do that, Tom wallsch this ( soo sick on rails might i add) do you think these skiers read what you write? maybe but there not gonna change what tricks that win them hundreds of thousands of dollars , just to make you happy...

personally i think jons tricks are fukin amazing...

i agree with theoz, go back and watch his movie segments, the guys CAN and DOES throw every trick out there. on the other hand, yea lately he throws alot of flats and kangs, but kangs win comps and flats look like one of the most fun tricks out there.

here's another thing to think about, go watch colby's JOSS video. in the beginning when he's imitating the other pros, colby throws a switch misty 9 tail. he did this b/c jon does them better that ANYONE out there.

so yea, the shots you have been seeing are pretty similar, i agree with that... but i can guarantee you that his segments coming out this year will not all have the same "monotonous drone" if you will

I agree that he is an incredible skier, and that his bag of tricks is massive, but it pisses me off that he throws the same tricks over and over to win comps and in his video blog. I know he CAN do tons of other tricks, the guy has the best air sense of anyone in the business hands down. His older video segments are unreal and he's doing tricks that require an unbelievable level of refinement in nearly every aspect of jump skiing. But he doesn't throw his other tricks. And it annoys me.

I agree. Sure it's a little anoying that hes thrown the kang flip a million times, but hes got new tricks.... 0:20 is really sick!

nah jon can throw tonnes of different tricks. his tricks always look familiar 1. because he uses only his cleanest tricks to win 2. because he has his main tricks so solid because he practices so much, he has probably landed hundreds if not thousands of kang flips on the water ramps. hes got other tricks too he just dosnt pull them out unless he can try them more than once.

i dont think you people understand. his skiing is not like yours. he doesnt come to the mountain to just ski around and do whatever. when he was there it was almost Xgames. skiing is his job, and winning those comps is how he makes money. so he cant just go ski pow he needs to train and practice to win.

Jon can do any aerial trick in the book. He does the same grabs because they look good and he practices the same trick many times because repitition makes perfection. He does the only smooth double flips I've seen; everybody else just hucks themselves and it doesn't even seem worth doing because it is so ugly.

In short: quit talking shit about Jon. Skiing wouldn't be anything like it is today without him, especially with all he's done in the past 5 years.

I know what you mean. I've see enough flat 5 japans. He's still one of my favorite skiers though. And it's sick watching him cause he does his tricks perfectly. In the x-games big air when he lands that first kangaroo. That was the epitomy of afterbang like he wasn't even trying.

All you guys hating on jon are just retards. This dude can do every trick. There is NO other skier out their that pushes the sport like him, and what dou you think, if jon makes it to the Olympics in GS happens? All these IOC idiots will see that those newschool kids are some ballin freakin good skiers, and maybe they will start to respect our sport/lifestyle. If this happens freeskiing will be in the olympics faster as ever before. And this means more good terrain parks and pipes for all of us.

Most of you guys out there hatin are just little kids who do not understand what it is about! And this dork claiming that jon didn´t ski pow early january in kstone does not get the point at all. If I could be in X Games I would train rails like a maniac, when I am not that good in it.

Jon for me is just the best skier around, a real rolemodel, this may sounds gay but its true. He gives us all the chance the watch his clips on his VBlog for free, and there is more sick and funny stuff in it then in every movie I watched till now, so plz give this dude a little respect, he has done and does so much for the sport and so, also for all the skiers lovin this sport
