actually no. he has a point, something rogge pointed out on the ski show a few weeks ago.
this is two weeks of a very short season that these guys base their career off of. unless they win, they dont make money off of joss. the shots they get there really cant be used in movies, because no one wants to see shots theyve already seen 6 months later in a full length ski flick. they already saw it for free, why would they pay for it?
i have no doubt thats part of why there were no really big name filmers there this year, its just doesnt make sense money wise. that time could be used getting last minute bc shots, spring park shoots that no one will see for free before the movie, etc.
so essentially yes, unless you win, you have nothing to show for it, and that time could have been "better spent" (career speaking) elsewhere.
