Jon Olsson, skiing's first millionaire, moves to Monaco. What's next?

he also got a private pipe coach. By the way living anywhere in Monaco(a fiscal paradise if you haden't realised)is like owning a place in Beverly Hills, it's reserved to the richest of the richest. And Monaco kinda sucks as a town, far from skiing, but closer to surfing than sweden so thats also a reason apparently.

And Monaco kinda sucks as a town??? monaco is pimp city... and it doesnt suck if you like chicks and partys... And is not that far from skiing...

old one now but still:

yes, as mentioned, he did stick switch tricks, a switchy misty 900 for example. (not a perfect landing but still)

monaco is for the crazy rich, i have never seen more of the nicest cars in one area in my life... but yea, his gayspace says his home is monaco

money dont matter when it comes to skiing, if it does to u, u aint a true skier, a true skier skis for the love and pssion he/she has for the sport

no.....skiers make some money.....but they don't make millions.....BY FAR. I don't think he would have moved to Monaco either.....

The move to Monaco seems perfectly viable to me. He's certainly not the first. A bunch of racers like Anja Paerson and Kalle Palander have made the move there. Not that it really matters with any top skiers though; they're skiing away from home for 9-10 months out of the year anyways.

haha skiers are soooooo poor, you guys have no idea, it is not a glamorous proffesion..sure everybody here knows who they are..but outside newschoolers? noobody

skiers arent poor, they get a bunch of stuff for free, especially if you are a well known skier in the freestlye world, you are definatley not poor, maybe some of the up and commers and some rookies, but definatley not well known ones

i just hope it wont end up like hockey, truely great sport about the pride, and having fun but now its allll about how much doah your making a year, thats what skiing is starting to look like, first mosely, now dumont is with target, jon is with god knows, and candide is with BMW or landrover or sompthing,

i know that the rumor is true.. there had been an interview in skiing-the next level( a german magazine)with jon. he said he move to monaco because he wanted to be more mobile( the airport is near monaco) and ski wherever the snow is good. not just one ski area. now he has got a great city in the summer and an airport next to his hoouse for flying to ski spots when the snow is good there. thats probably the reason beside taxes!

he also said he wanted to build a big park styled kicker somewhere in the bc for some beautiful shots on a good kicker. he also said that red bull might spend some money on the projekt.

i think that sounds great and i'd like to see it!

it says

Jon, still a refugee Jon Olsson do as Ingemar, Pernilla and Anja and moves to Monaco. Also Jon's old pals, slalomstjärnan Markus Larsson, lives in Monaco. Perhaps, he can inspire Markus to dust twintipen again

hopefully it means more millionares in the sporet because that would be awesome to see our sport make it big

yah, i'll agree with that (though i have little basis, just assuming). I'm sure jon is much more highly marketed thoughout europe then tanner is, europe undoubtedly has a lot more skiers than north america...so the pool of cash to pay skiers is likely a lot bigger. Probably a similar situation with candide.

its just an example of how someone excelled at their sport, they make a big deal whenever anyone is the first millionaire in any new field of athletics or whatnot...

while i think its cool that people are finally making big money from skiing, i gotta say its kinda rubbish when sports stars and musicians move to tax havens like monaco and switzerland to evade paying taxes. Im a chef and dont eartn very much but i have no qualms with paying my taxes cos they pay for the society we are all used to living in, imagine no schools, police, ambulances, fire fighters, street cleaning, public transport, foreign aid, hospitals, welfare etc etc.. its out of order when people become super rich and think they dont have pay the same taxes that minimum wage earners are paying.

Scandinavian taxes are incredibly high due to their system of government (oslo is the most expensivre city in the world) but they also have some of the highest quality of life in the world...

clearly there are reasons BEYOND taxes to move to Monaco...its MONACO, im sure its a beautiful place. If i had the cash, id head down there too

Yeah, no shit. Jon, as sick of a skier as he is, seems to be kind of a whiny little bitch. I'm sure he's not in person, but in all the interviews (like Silva's in SKEEZE) a lot of people complain about him. There is no reason that, as a skier, you'd move to Monaco. None. There are plenty of ski towns with airports nearby. And, since Are's the town that made him rich, you would think he could contribute something to the community (ie paying taxes like everyone else) instead of leaving so he doesn't have to pay taxes on money he's making doing what he loves.

Actually, if you live in sweden you would know how much taxes we pay, We have high taxes on everything.

And if you are a skier like jon, whos career will live under quite a short period you would probably want to save as much as possible too for the years when your not a pro.

And still he has the JOI comp that give are money, and hes marketing JL, HEAD, Red-Bull and alots of other brands that generates sales, and tax money for the state (25% on everything we buy here)
