Jon Olsson = Shaun White

So I have been seeing a shit ton of hate on Jon from the newschoolers community as well as from other pros in their blogs, etc. Is Jon starting to go down the road of Shaun White? Big named athlete that all the gapers know about and all the 'true' riders despise? Just some random thought... what do you guys think?
 
No but seriously , i really like how he voices his opinion.

Jon is sick and has done more for skiing than most the people in the industry. People disagree with his opinions but I dont think there are many people that really dislike him.

No I would say Simon = Shaun White more than Jon. Both will do what it takes to win and generally aren't stoked on their results unless they're on the top of the podium. But Simon is more of a skier than Shaun is a snowboarder.
 
all jon ever does is flatspins. then he claims hard, naming the trick after himself. travis rice never named any of the tricks he landed first. he just called it a double rodio, not a rice flip.
 
no, Jon does so much for skiing. and hes an excellent skier, whether you want to admit it or not. his racing career is just solidifying the fact that he can basically ski anything thats fucking frozen. he is a legendary skier and far from ever selling out. if you remember back in the day, people rode his wee wee kinda like we ride Teriyaki Walnuts pee pee today.

Shaun White, although a legend of snowboarding, sold his soul to the devil through shameless self promotion.
 
id say Dumont is more of a name people know. hes been in the sport for a while especially the x-games which has the most tv coverage.
p.s. does anyone remember Dumont in Level One's "High Five." he did urbans. damn thats weird to see/ think about
 
I'm not personally a Jon fan, but I do respect him. He is a little too arrogant for me. (don't hate, just voicing my opinion.) The racing career is really legitimizing him as an icon but the lambo is way over the top.

 
Fuck everyone who says any of these riders aren't extremely talented. Yes, some people sell out. Yes it affects their reputations. Does it make them any less talented? No, how the hell do you think they got their in the first place.

You may not respect what paths they've taken, but there is no need to disrespect the skill, time, and effort they put into what they do.

Jon is the most well rounded skiier in the world.

Dumont and White have similiar stories and they deserve some sort of respect

hes better at skiing than most of the pros out there. who gives a fuck if he turns into shawn white. at least wheel get a viodeo game out of it
 
He's been raped by jdyuge quite often in the past and he never actually mentionned the judging when he got 3rd, he just came back and pushed harder.

I like the fact that he's not scared to give his opinion.

He's got his own plan and stick to it.

simon, tanner, candide, as well as jon have done more for skiing in the last 8-10 years then ANYONE.

Simon has come from an up and coming 16 year old dicking around in the x pipe after the comp to the best pipe rider in the world. Who set the world record last year in the quarter just to show everyone that skiers go bigger.

Jon has come from some Scandinavian country who can't speak English filming with iberg to holding the most intense and professionally done competition in the sport. May i also add that he is throwing the hardest trick in the industry and deserved to win last night? He makes that shit look like a cork 5.

Idk why we are hating on any of these guys. They are and have been the leaders of this sport who are so stoked on it that they contunue to feed us blogs about there travels and hold competitions in there homeland so that films are even more legit and progression can blossom.
 
I really respect jon, partially because his really professional approach to skiing, but also because he has a nice style and he really wants to perfect every trick he does before throwing it down on comps....
 
Wait at the bottom of a JOI jump, and see how many pro skiers despise Jon. He's done a ton for both pros (his event), and fans (his video blog). no one has any reason not to be grateful. and he featured bobby brown on his blog in the x-slope practice, when he was still on the waiting list, which was a nice gesture (esp. considering recent bouts of scandanavian elitism--e.g. PK on Bobby Brown, Wester on Brogan).
 
Jon is stoked to see other people throw down.

Sean is stoked to see others throw down so long as he wins.

Jon waits in line at Breck like everyone else and says hey to all the little skiers who are astounded to see a pro.

Sean uses the ski school line and goes around everyone who deserves to suck his golden balls.

Obviously since I don't know either on a seriously personal level I can't say much, but from what I have always seen from them I like Jon a lot and the fact that he simply loves to ski. I don't like Sean and when he ran up the pipe after losing last year he pretty much sealed the distaste I have for him.
 
whats with all this dumont hate he has done so much for the sport...you dont see shaun setting any quarterpipe records do you? yea he didnt deserve that big air but its not his fault you cant get mad at the competitor for going out there and doing what they do, get mad at the judging...I have mad respect for simon

Im a big fan of Jon, especially with the JOSS, JOI, North AmericaN Freeskiing Open..he does so much for the sport.

Some of you kids sound like you think you could better then these guys. Well, put your money where your mouth is you little punks.

You talk about athletes in OUR sport and just trash talk. What the fuck? What happened to being excited for skiing and having fun?

Jon Olsson is the sports biggest innovator. i enjoy watching his blog and it keeps me up to date with stuff hes doing. Jon is sick
