Jon Olsson Heli Follow

Ha ha ha!

You're kidding, right? This is where using a heli is wrong?

Take a look at the carbon footprint skiing in itself has before opening your mouth...

what do you wanna do today jon?

oh i don't know, how's about we fire up the heli and go film some groomers?

i mean granted that edit wasn't cool, but that guy leads a pretty fucking awesome life.

yeah man you're totally right. one of the biggest names in our sport using a helicopter, a snowmobile and haulin ass up to the mountain in a ferrari, just to film some carves so all of us less fortunate kids can wish we were in his positon, is perfectly fine. WHAT A ROLE MODEL. any dumbass on here knows skiing itself has a ridiculous carbon footprint and our methods used to get up mountains are detrimental as fuck to our sport's most crutial asset (snow). it's ignorant people like you, who feel obligated to bash on people pointing out simple wrongs, who need to think before opening their mouth... you think that i'm not aware of how many pros/people in general use helicopters to get up mountains? where i come from we pack the subaru to get up to the mountain and talk shit to spoiled fucks who drive escalades just to arrive in style. it's also people like you who will ruin skiing and winter for good in saying this one heli session has no impact, makes no difference, and is not the root of the problem. incase you haven't noticed, jon is one of the most watched athletes in our sport and everything he does has repercussions. this little edit says to me, "i'm only on the earth for so long and i will enjoy it however i want, regardless of how others will be affected in the future." you, jon, and all other pros/skiers need to realize that every action we make has implications, and if we let shit like this slide there will be no more winter.

Me, ignorant? Way to try and turn the cards around and act all 'Salvaging Sally' on me by claiming driving a Suby instead of an Escalade. Grow up, man.

As you said, this sport and its by-products are detrimental to the environment and our precious white fluff, it's a fact you either accept or deny. Now, saying that Olsson is a bad example by doing this one instance (of something different) and then looking at the AK/heli-access skiers all around the world, pros or not, and then thinking this is really the worst thing environmentally to impact on skiers?

That's just downright silly, Sally.

best comment yet! haha i totally agree with you. half of NS doesnt venture to the top of most mountains unless the park starts there. Once they find a flat rail, they then proceed to take off their skis and hike it for 3 hours trying all their ballerina tricks on it, oh sorry.. "switch ups" at .5mph while people wait for them to get out of the way!

/end rant

Nice work jon! kid can ski!

haha that was pretty sick. i thoroughly enjoy killing groomers early in the morning, fresh tracks, no one else on the mountain. there's nothing like that feeling when you're on the brink of being completely out of fucking control flying down steeps.

Ima have to agree with Mike-O here. Don't get all high and mighty over that BS PZEV they put on the back of your suby. If you really want to make a difference in your carbon footprint, drive a 2wd vehicle.

Grams of CO2 per mile from converted EPA data comparing friends cars (MPG doesn't work in comparing diesel and gasoline powered vehicles):

Gasoline Jetta mpg: 78 grams/mi

Jetta TDI: 67.8 grams/mi

Toyota Prius: 47 grams/mi

2006 xA: 70g/mi

2010 Ford Escape Hybrid: 80.7 g/mi

2010 Impreza hatch: 90 g/mi

2006 Impreza hatch: 101 g/mi

2005 v8 Audi s4: 115 g/mi

"Grow up, man."
"That's just downright silly, Sally." i'm not the one calling you names...
you're obviously not ignorant and you're probably a chill dude, but from your earlier comment thats what i perceived.
i'm not sure if you're asking if i accept or deny the by-products of skiing, but what i'm getting at is that we are the ones who need to make others as aware as we are of those by-products. from my earlier rant i never said, "this (session) is really the worst thing environmentally to impact on skiers." I'm saying that jon's actions are humiliating in that he's exactly what is detrimental. I also know that skier's carbon footprint actually has very little affect on global warming, compared to all other greenhouse gas producers, and this is the real problem. are you saying we should just kick back and watch it all unfold? Jon should be the one promoting conservation, is my main point.

if jon put money into NS skiing intead of this dumbshit, like other pros have, i might gain some respect. so many pros invest all of their money into ski companies, film companies, clothing companies...you know, giving back. this is just stupid, jon is bad for NS

i agree with this, subys aren't the answer, and i am a contributor to global warming. i'm trying to look at the bigger picture here, and i hope everyone on this site can do the same

JOI/JOSS is unrelated to skiing? I didn't know that.

When you say "So many pros invest ALL their money", can you give us some examples? Never heard about anything like this.

i guess i was ranting...jon does lots for NS.

but not yniq, he signed with them in 2009. and this whole race thing...

tanner hall...to name a pro

he didn't sign with yniq

YNIQ is Jon's OWN goggle brand, and the goggles are super comfy and sick, but are way to expensive!

man, the first few days of my year are usually on my ARG's so when i finally get to take out my other skis, it is soooooo much fun to just absolutely rail groomers like that. Aproaching the rollover at the top of the steep groomer, and folks just waiting at the top collecting themselves before they drop in, and i just come flying by, pop off the rollover a little, and make like 15 super laid over turns as fast as i can...500 ft gone in 15 seconds...damn that brings me back.

That vid got me more stoked to ski than any i have seen in the past month.

I hope Jon doesn't read NS. He's doing so much for the sport and all you 15y.o. kids can do is hate on him. Really really sad and killing the sport.

you all realize that Jon is CLEARLY making fun of freestyle edits right? Jesus people. it's apparent from the obvious (heli itself, dubstep) to the less obvious (snowmobile, the filming/editing in general).

Anyone want to now why they used a heli?

Thats a glacier and there is still to much snow to start working on the lifts. Thats why they get a sled tow. Why they would do that? i dont know.

The heli might have been not been necessary but i was probably kick ass.
