Jon Olson is a Park Rat!

I was watching Jon Olson's video blog thing and on two of the blogs he was skiing park after a big snowday "the kickers are not open because they got too much snow so we have to hit small rails" I used to think Jon Olson was the shit, and he may well have been but lately it's occuring to me that he is a huge park rat and my respect for him is pretty much going down the drain. THis guy has the opportunity to ski sick powder days and sick terrain all the time and instead he goes around 270'ing onto rails like a rollerblader. Now I know I'm on newschoolers and it's a freestyle site but honestly if it's a powday are you gonna be skiing park?

And don't give me any shit about how he won a big mountain comp or was a decent racer cause that's all irrelevant. He is a monster park rat now and is whack in my opinion.

wait if too much snow for the kickers is not enougth powder to call it powder???

and from waht I saw they left early for park city

I guess I care cause I'm a little jealous that this guy gets to travel the world and has the chance to ski some really amazing terrain but instead practices his small rail skills. And Quebec skier, if there's enough snow to close down the kickers then it's probably enough. YOur post is suprising seeing as you come from Quebec where three inches is a pow day.

all those big pros are the biggest park rats on the hill alot of times if its supposed to snow they won't even come out

Jon has a chance of winning $xxx in the up coming competition season. After that he travels the world heli/cat/sled skiing the sickest powder anyone can imagine. Why not hone his rail skills just that much more in anticipation of the comp season rather than skiing a 6 inch resort day...hmmm

the other day at PC he was fore-running a GS course and was 3 seconds faster than the best racer.

he is from norway and grew up skiing gnarly shit and has won big mountain comps.

keystone is not known for is big mountain terrain and Jon is obviously trying to train to get ready for USO and X.

All of those things are completely relevant and if you say they aren't well then idk, maybe your just an idiot. Bottom line: Jon is the fucking man, slays everything he touches, and can do whatever he wants.

I was reading in the news about where they found a fossil of a 2000 pound rat like rodent. It could have been Jon's ancestors so I guess he must be genetically disposed to being a giant park rat.

Park Rat! Park Rat! Park Rat! You're all afraid to admit it.

Whatever I'm done with this thread.

he grew up in sweden, and he started off as a youngling doing skiraces :)

he really needed the rail practise sessions, so I guess that's why, haha.

you can really see his progress in the videoblog aswell. kinda cool

why do you care how other people are skiing?

"boo hoo, he can travel wherever he wants and still skis park!"

who cares man, just ski to have fun. what you said is like saying:

"oh man, i can't believe steve jobbs is a millionaire and drives a honda, what the fuck?! if i had his money i would drive a ferrari"

now doesnt that sound a bit silly?

The best thing about this thread is that it bothers you that much about what Jon rides.... Like actually? Who gives a shit what terrain he rides, does it have any impact on your life at all?

Didn't think so.

when you ski that much I doubt getting 4 inches of fresh at keystone is not a high priority. keystone doesn't exactly have gnarly terrain.

Jon is probably the best all around skier there is. He is a ridiculous comp skier, films great segments, won the Euro Extreme whatever the fucks, and is now training to become a racer.

other than the fact that he's from Sweden, i totally agree with everything you just said. 100% true.
way to lay the smackdown

you're a fucking retard friedcheese. jon's a professional skier who needs to earn money to eat. how does he earn money? 1) comp prizemoney 2) sponsor cheques. what to his sponsors pay him for? to give their brand exposure. whats the best way for jon to do this? win comps wearing his sponsors gear and rocking their skis. what time of year is it? its contest season. what type of skiing is jon likely to be doing in contest season? practising his rails so he can win slopestyle. you see where i'm going with this? he'll ski pow later in the season when the contests have been and gone and when he's filming.

idiot.

wow buddy your comment on quebec is pretty fucking ignorant gay rant call jon a park rat when ur not a dooshbag

I guess thats why he's a pro and your not....

He's in the office.... training

I'm sure he likes pow, like most other people but is a professional and trains his ass off... thats why he's one of the best

so hes such a huge park rat that he has to spend his pow days trying to catch up to the 17 year old jibbers who are 10 times better than him in the park (rails),

Think about it the guy is the worlds richest free skier he can probably ski pow whenever he wants maybe he wanted to switch it up and do some rails.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD up. lets use a little commen sense and take a second to chill before we start ranting on how Jon is a park rat. Did it ever ouccur to you that Jon might be skiing park because he is paid to ski and is getting ready to ski in the biggest comps on the year in the next two months. His performance in these comps is one of the biggest factors in setting up his contracts, and this allows him to ski for a living, and Jon make a good living skiing, far better than most. When Jon holds it down for all his companys in the big comps they are all about giving him money and sending him on ski trips all over the world. So if you think about it, when Jon skiped a couple of powder days, he is only trying to ensure he can go ski pow any day of the year he wants for free. Skiing some park on some powder days is required if you want to be one the best and most respected and well paid freestyle skiers.

i'm sure a lot of us would be out hitting the pow, but like people have said, there are some comps coming up and he must've just wanted to train, maybe the idea of soft powder crashes motivated him to try some crazier shit. i wouldn't label him as a monster park rat based on his segment in 7sd and saying he wants to ski more big mountain. who knows? doesn't really matter anyway.

like all the other guys that were there, theres one thing on their minds, Xgames and until thats over, no pow time, only time to train in the park. My teammate Sean Hartel is getting ready for the US open, and thats all he does is ski park, even when were building BC stuff and filming, hes training park.

he's kinda training for X slopestyle, seeing as how he sucks at rails (or did until recently), it makes sense to train hard on the weakest aspect of his skiing.

he doesnt get paid money to ski pow, he gets paid for his park segments, and from doing well in comps. skiing is a job for him.

we all know he likes skiing pow, and for all you know he didn't have any skis fatter than his narrow ass pro-models. dont be so quick to judge a guy.

and big name pros dont go to resorts to ski pow, they fuck off to the middle of nowhere like rettalack or haines.

why did you call him an idiot? his point is Jon makes his living by skiing...

what are ypu trying to accomplish here?

FUCK YOU AND FUCK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THINK LIKE THIS. I ski park because it makes me super happy, I love park, I also don't have fat skis so there is no reason to ski anywhere else. My roomate was talking to one of my buddies at college and was like Darcy just stays in the park after a huge snowday. who the fuck cares where I ski? He's on his hellbents no polling thinking hes all cool when he cant even 360, fuckin tools like this piss me off.

a couple of early season pow days at breck he was hiking rails all day, i was stoked, more tree skiing pow for me.
