Jon adds 2 more dubs.....this time switch

the arielist comparison is stupid, if he wanted to do 5 pencil backflips then he'd be doing 5 pencilled out backflips. small stylee rotations are sick, but so are big stylee rotations.

I think Jon is pushing the sport in a good direction. He throw's super stylie 180's and 5's, but at the same time can create new stuff just like these dub flips. I like it. It's a solid mix of everything. I wish I could see him on some more rails I guess, but eh, whatever.

i'd like to point out that we have already gone through a faze of "spin to win." if you all remember, CR was trowing 1260s and 1440s while half the kids on this site were being potty trained.

i don´t think skiing´s gonna go in that direction... mike wilson did a ugly double back(video@skifilm.com)and didn´t make it to the finals... that´s a good sign i guess..... and what jon does is just off the hook....i´m def gonna buy the movie he´s in next year

haha obviously if you just invented 6 new doubles their not gona die out^ they are just pushing skiing in the wrong direction....sooner or later it will be a triple flip then quad and so on and so on

On point B):

i didn't hear anyone say the sky was falling when candide or vanular flipped onto rails. i DO share your concern, but I guarentee more kids will end up with broken spines or traumatic brain injuries from flip-to-rail tricks than from double flips.

also, maybe we don't need to worry about double-flips going mainstream, since flip-to-rail tricks haven't. it seems that while dangerous tricks get a lot of attention, they remain nitch tricks because of the fact that their dangerous.

also, powder is the poor man's water ramps. only the east coast skiers will be disadvantaged. and one more thing, water ramps aren't so safe, anyways. good skiers (e.g. travis perkins) have gotten knocked out off the small kicker at the PC ramps--with the bubbles.

yea, except not as styled out and with more claimage when he lands them. He really needs to find his own lane, the whole Jon jr. thing is kind of lame.

Idk, Wester kind of pisses me off - sick skier, don't get me wrong, but the whole 'anti-gangster' thread that he started on here a year or so ago was lame. But now he hangs around Tanner (who pretty much legitimized/mainstreamed the gangster thing in skiing) for filming....

props to jon.

..but speaking of jacob. He is better than jon(rails/style)... thats for sure!jon has robo-style. And if you think that being gangster is the only way to be "cool" , then you are totaly wrong..

anyways here is full article:

Two MORE double flips!

Continuing on his impressive jumping earlier last week, Jon Olsson

stuck two MORE new double flips bringing the count to 6. With Travis

Rice and Eddie Wall filming and sessioning along side the veteran

skier, the day was packed with big tricks and stomped landings.

Jon once again spent countless hours reshaping the jump after the new

snow filled things in, staying on the hill late into the night guiding

the cat drivers and hand shaping until he was satisfied everything was

perfect for the following day.

The morning starting early with a sled ride up at 8:30, the final

touches were finished just as Travis and Eddie, along with the film

crew arrived. With them they brought a rumored 2 million dollar

sled/camera setup that allowed perfectly smooth follow cams over the

67 footer. The cat was brought out one last time to till the landing, and Travis

decided to try to hit the side of the landing as a quarter pipe while

everyone waited, and bagged a few shots hand planting atop the roughly

30ft high wall. With the siren of the cat backing up, it was time to

start shooting on the jump.

Jon started slow with a shifty 3, flat 5, and a double flatspin, but

quickly moved into dubs with a kanga and DJ flip. After landing every trick cleanly, he decided it was time to head back up and try his

first switch double. Rubbing snow in his face, Jon pysched himself up

and dropped in.

Switch rodeo 5 to to flatspin, STOMP. A couple jumps later, switch

rodeo 5 to flat 5/underflip, STOMP. Jon landed 2 new doubles with

japan and mute grabs on both in less then 7 attempts.

The day wasn't over, the two snowboarders followed Jon in clearing it

perfectly first attempt. When all was said and done, the landing just

wasn't steep enough to accommodate the extra pop the boarders had when

boosting rodeo's high over the deck. Jon and Travis started planning

on the best way to fix the jump for the next day as the crew packed up

and the sun began to set.

Jacob is from Sweden his brain get fried form looking at all teh hot bitches walking around and the scarves and make up they wear fucks with there brains too, Hes suck a fucking good skier though sooo good

Yea, for sure he's got more rail skill than Jon (at least that is documented on film... I feel like Jon could be sick at rails but just better at jumps, idk), I wasn't arguing whether or not he's got talent. I just think that he trend hops too much. Or if not trend hopping, he latches onto other pros too much and doesn't really have his own niche. How many movies is he in that Jon isn't? And how many movies have you seen where his segment is interlaced with Jon's?

My point about the gangster thing - I know it's not the only way to be cool, and was never trying to argue that. But Jacob used to be a member on NS and started a thread or a few arguments (I forget exactly) all centered around his idea that the gangster image was not cool. Not a big deal, that's his opinon, whatever. But the way he presented it was so down on the gangster thing and up on his idea that we need to be 'classier' or some shit was lame. And now he's skiing with Tanner, who he was pretty much blasting a year or so ago. I just think that's pretty telling of what kind of dude he is. And that translates into his skiing.

idk, that was pretty rambling, and I'm sure that I'll get flamed for something that someone misread, but whatever, I just don't think he's that sick. Unless he's doing a hip jump, I guess, lol.

ZOMG no way that would ever happen!

and I believe in your first post you said that it doesn't help that he's doin them switch, which I'd disagree with cuz doing them switch is a makin them way more 'newschool,' not to mention hard.

i was just wondering why the boarders were able to go so much bigger than jon??not that jon isnt a skiing god, should get mike wilson out there to rep the skiers and go idioticly big as he normaly does.

That's true, and I never claimed to. But he presents himself to us, the fans, as a professional, and I was simply critiquing what he does as a professional skier. I don't need to know anything about dude to see that he slammed the 'gangsta' style and is now skiing around and learning from the guy that basically started that style. So maybe think before you jump right into assuming that I'm making crazy claims about Wester as a person. I took a few of his actions and words (both from here and in interviews) and said what I think about them. Is that a huge problem? I don't think so.

i live in steamboat where they have water ramps. and it costs like 30 bucks to go as much as you want. not expensive at all.

d00d.so.fetch,

I definitely dont disagree with the idea that he is pulling some Jon Jr. kind of shit... they have very similar styles and approaches to skiing. they sort of dress the same and ride the same and that kind of thing... but i think that is probably because of their backgrounds, where they are from, the fact that they are good friends, etc... how can you be sure that jacob is just pulling shit from jon's style, and not vice versa??

i mean, i feel like even the guys that i ride with that i look up to as skiers and people take some of my style and use it, just as much as i take some of theirs. mickael and tanner and CR and raps all developed right next to each other. mik took some rasta from tanner, tanner some gangsta from mik, CR some shit from raps, vice versa all around.

sort of a weird thing to think about i guess.

Hey, yea, that makes total sense. I don't mean to come off as a Jacob hater or whatever, or to try and say that he's a shady guy or anything... which I think a lot of you guys are taking my comments as.

All I'm saying is that if he starts throwing the same double corks, he'll just be continuing his copy-catting of Jon. He got into the pro-scene way after Jon - that's where I'm getting the copying vibe from. Maybe I'm wrong.

I originally started talking about him on this thread because someone said that he'd be throwing the same dubs as Jon but with none of the water ramping and training - as if Jacob is in some way superior to Jon, which I don't think is the case.

and I still think that when he was a member on NS he gave off a 'holier-than-thou' vibe that pissed me off. So my bad if it came off as talking shit on him, I guess. I think he's sick, I just don't think that he's incredibly original, that's all.

yeah doubles are super fun too. Small spins and style are not that hard. It gets real old real quick. I can wear baggier clothes and do 3's 5's and sw 5s off everything all day. Thats boring and not progressive at all.

im neuteral on the subject of doubles. On one hand, they are sick and ballsy, and DIFFERENT. id rather see a double than a switch 10 or 12. You can also only do so many straight spins, you can only style your 3's and 5's to a certaion extent. ON the other hand, doubles are pretty hucked realistically unlkess the jump is like 80+ feet. But if you can bring a few fresh rotations, then woooo.

yeah he definitely uses some of jon's tricks... but he has some of his own. i've seen videos of him doing sick risky flips and double cork 12's and shit... not just roo flips.

First of all jacob is really good! But, he has a trampoline background and uses water ramps frequently, so saying that he will just bust a new dub out with no training is stupid. And he does seem to do a lot of tricks a few months after Jon, as the double flat and the kanga. As for him skiing with tanner, he pretty much just skied with him that one day on the hip and who would say no to that. And for the way they dress, I don’t think anyone is copying anyone. That is just the way Swedes dress.

good job on the jump today jos. impressive while i was there and i'm sure impressive while I was out and about cooling down.

nobody can read

I THINK THEY ARE SICK THE WAY HE IS DOING THEM. JUST SAYING THAT TO "STAND OUT" NOW ITS GOING TO TAKE A TRIPLE, THEN A QUAD. NOT SAYING IT WILL, JUST WARNING

chill

because when snowboarders set their spins they pop wayyyyy harder, and esp. with rodeo's.....jon floats his spins when he sets, it just sooo different

As for jacob, don't talk shit on people and judge them without knowing them....your basing everything off just a tiny tiny bit of information about them.....every is a dick sometimes, you want people that just met you calling you out for being a prick maybe cause you were having a bad day and not in a good mood

i hate all the hate on here, its rediculous.....I just wanted to share what happened, now im out, argue away....im gonna spend my time skiing and shooting not on here bitching about what Jacob wears

Jon has great style. Jacob is also really sick. If he wants to try some of the stuff Jon did so what? its a double flip, anyone can try it. its not like the guy is stealing jons game.
