Ive been thinking recently about joining the army/navy/marines etc. This is mostly becuase i know after your done it helps alot with getting into colleges, jobs, scholarship money etc.

Anyone who has joined for any reasons if you could please give me some insight on a very big decision. At this point im not even seriously considering it,its just something that's been floating around in my head for awhile now.

Please dont turn this thread into war vs no war. or about the conflict in the middle east.

thanks alot guys

pm trollionaire. he's enlisting for similar reasons, he can talk to you about his rationale, and onces he's done with training, let you know how it is

Well if you plan on going to college, but still want the armed forces background, find a ROTC program of some sort at the college you want to go to.

Yeah don't enlist after high school. Go to college through an ROTC program and become an officer, its a much better lifestyle.

this this this this this this this this this this this this

I facepalm so hard at kids who join for school, as everyone I know who did it, hates their life.

My dad was enlisted for 21 years and said he regrets not going to college

Yes it is, my cousin in ROTC right now, I know the pay after college is almost double, and they pay for his college, and you can make a carer out of it if you want, and if you don't, after a few years, (2-4 depending on the branch i think) you can use your degree you got paid to get, and get a job

I sound like a recruiter haha but yes, if you want to join, def. do rotc

and if you dont want to join dont

my dad went to college and regrets not letting the AF teach him to fly.

(shrugs)

although if i were ever to join the armed forces (at this point slim to none) it would be as an officer.

i wasnt serious.

anyway for real advice. id say join the air force. seems like the dopest of the armed forces. and if possible i would join after college and you will go straight to officer school.

Definitely go ROTC in college, or to West Point or something like that. You'll regret joining straight from highschool

actually these days if you want to have even the slightest hope of flying for the air force, you need college.

And as has already been said, go to college first. And unless you are completely certain, you don't necessarily need to go through ROTC. You can join after college and still join to become an officer, just the military isn't paying for your education. I've heard people say rotc ruined their college experience, and heard people who joined as officers after who wished they'd done rotc so it's all personal preference.
