Joining school dive team?

Over the summer i have watched alot of summer edits, many in which there was a couple diving clips or segments. Im talking about the diving board side rather than the platform. Im kinda torn because it looks super sick, and this being my first year ever really ever doing tricks off of them, i don't intend to become too competitive at it, and try to make meets and everything, but whatever happens, happens. I basically want to do it, because practices are from 3:15 to 6:30, and i'll try to work on all of my flips and everything, so kinda just taking the opportunity to free dive and practice ski stuff. The only thing is, that it's during winter, and getting home at 6 rather than 3:30 is really cutting down on skiing time, especially becuase its a half hour drive to my mountain, so we'd be there for around an hour and a half. Any thoughts? has anyone been on the school diving team, is it worth it?? yadda yadda yadda

p.s.(seachbarred)

let me just say that dive team is badass. Aside from just being able to impress friends pulling a dub or a 1 1/2 or something, its great for air awareness, and if its outdoors you get a tan. In one year I went from frontflips to dub fronts, gainers and inwards. Its scary sometimes but when you get the trick and you surface and the judges are like

its awesome.

SOUNDS LIKE A LONG ASS PRACTICE.

IF YOU WANT TO DO IT THEN GO RIGHT HEAD, BUT DONT SIGN UP AND THEN PUSSY OUT

Im on the diving team this will be my third year, i love it its awesome especially once you get the hang of the core "diving" things like the approach etc you can basically just throw anything i do 2 1/2 front, back double, arabian (front flip halftwist backflip), back flip 1 1/2 twist, etcetc. its really fun. And if you mess up in a meet belly flop or something its just funny (at least with my coach who was really chill about everything)

As far as skiing goes...it obviously cut down my skiing time alot but theres still plentiful opportunities to go up. (I also live approx 30+ min from my mountain).

Be prepared to not throw things like a newschooler. Unless your diving team is super mellow, your coach is gonna want you to do stuff with proper form, not grabbing your feet like you have skis on. But that being said, your air sense will be vastly improved. The motions are very different, but you are still flipping around in the air, and that can only help you feel more comfortable once you are on skis.

Some people will call you gay but it helps for air awarenes and it makes you strong and more in control of your boddy

And chicks dig diving guys.

If i ever would have had to opportunity in highschool to be on a dive team i would have taken it. But in all honesty Skiing>Swimming in an indoor pool

One thing I wish my school had is a diving team, it looks super badass and I'm guessing it would give you better air awareness. And concerning how your skiing team will be affected, if your not really gonna be to completive maybe skip a couple practices every once in a while or miss practices on the weekend (assuming you have them) and just ski all weekend.
Goodluck

I dive for my high school swim team and it's way sick. Our coach is way chill and me and my friend could use the excuse of "We smoked a bowl on the way here" as a reason for being half an hour late. That being said, I did get a lot better by the end of the season: front 2 1/2, back double, inward 1/2, double reverse. I would recommend it, the only real sketch thing is the possibility of hitting the board on inwards and reverses.

Once you get your approach down and start getting a ton of height it's way fun just to throw super big front 1 1/2s and stuff. The technicality is different form skiing, though.

Do it, shits mad fun.

Smoke a blunt, then jump off a board into water and call it a sport.

I had a bunch of problems with going "out of position"

I would tweak out a nasty grab or cork a spin instead of staying on axis and get raped by the judges. Still mad fun, especially fucking around at practice.

Triple corks to belly flop death, cork 7 hail hitler air, inwards and revses.

Idk I say do it. If you're team is super super competitive about it and you aren't then it might not be as fun though

I dove last year for my school, BEST HIGH SCHOOL SPORT EVER. I got really good. i can do a front double twist, dub back/front,inwards 1 1/2, those are my basic dives. People might make fun of them but i doesnt bother me cause as soon as they see me do it the shut up. To be successful you have to realize you wont hit the board and just be cocky

more likely realize you will. I dont think i know a single diver who was remotely competitive who didnt hit at some point or another, I did twice.

Exactly this. You actually need to work on your technique ie. Keeping your legs together and straight and pointing your toes.

lol, ill just introduce rodeos and stuff with grabs, amongst my other NS and skier/snowboarder friends, if theres enough people doing it, and it looks nice, im sure that it'll show up somewhere in the future, but if i make a meet, my first trick will be kang flip with safety grabs, just so the judges are all confused and may score others wrongly, because mine was so beautiful. but in all seriousness im in swimming unit during gym right now, we got free swim/boards today and gainered 2nd try, and dub front off the short one, im gonna do it cuz i have enough friends doing it
