JOI Update

Jon's Blog...

He added an alpine racing event the same time as the JOI. A dual slalom with world cup racers.

"The jump side of things will be a close copy of the JOI 2007 jump as the athletes all agreed that it was the best jump ever made. Only difference is that this year it will be accompanied by a a dual GS course down the side of the inrun to create an arena that is tighter then anything we have seen before. Instead of waiting for the next round of freestylers to get to the top on the snowmobiles, why not then send best racers in the world down the course instead of waiting! Expect a super action packed event!"

Haters gonna hate on the racers but I think it's sick. Dual slalom is gnarly.

is it like one course on each side of the inrun to the jump? that would be kinda tight as the pros are cruizing into this huge booter

Yup, but I have no doubt that it will be way sicker from the point of view of a spectator to have a really close jump and constant action.

can't he put it on the inrun to the jump? All the best dual slalom courses end with a 100+ foot jump.

I don't like it. I think racing should remain racing and freestyle should remain freestyle. Hopefully holding a GS race doesn't overshadow the jumping, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. Seriously who do you think is a bigger name in skiing Bode Miller or Tanner Hall?

It's not a GS race, just a Dual Slalom, pretty sick tbh. Should be a sick event, the man never fails to please!

that sounds like it will actually be pretty sick. really unique for sure.
i still wish they were doing JOSS though....

Sure? I don't really care who wins, it just fun to watch the edits. It's interesting for me since I'm a filmer, I view it as way more of a filming competition than anything else. Plus there's nothing else like JOSS.
but i'm glad jon added something to separate this year from all the other JOIs of the past and keep his comps truly unique

damn that s pretty cool

skiing is skiing, racing, jumping, all the same shit, all the same people driven by the same passion.

stoked to see racing and jumping.

Yea, don't get me wrong DS is definitely my favorite form of racing and would love to see it make a bigger comeback. BUT, I don't like the mixing of the two. I think that the jumping will be overlooked by the racing since for a lot of people (especially in europe) racing is much bigger than jumping.

From the sounds of it looks like the races would happen between jumps to make sure there is constant action. you watch a few jumps, then watch a race, watch some jumps, watch a race. that way there isn't one overshadowing the other.

You have to understand that running a Dual GS would not be considered a serious event in the race world. It would run like a snowboard race where its two guys run, they record the times, they switch courses and the guy who won the first time has to either win again, or lose by less than he beat the other guy.

It would bring in a lot of good racers, but it wont be a serious event. I think its a good idea to have it, there is no reason that the racing and freestyle cultures shouldn't be allowed to interact, we really aren't that different.

I think it should be run like a race that we have here at home, its a dual GS but with two big drops in it, like 3 or 4 feet. Now that may scare off some of the big names due to the possibility of injury but it would be sick to watch

also have some racers try and straight air the jump and have some of the freestyle guys do the GS course switch.

When guys get eliminated let them just dick around on the jump in between runs...I wanna see someone try the naked superman front again....and GIANT BACKFLIPS!
