'He got fired? What did he do?'

'He jumped off of the roof again'

Don't really know him that well.

'My soul is a like a ruby

And I threw it in the earth

But now my hands are bleeding

From scrabbling in the dirt

And I look up to the heavens

And a light is on my face

I never never never

Thought I'd find a state of grace' - Joy by Mick Jagger

its all about when he lived with waylon jennings and was doing tons of blow. plus his cover of long black veil is fucking awesome.

i love folsom prison blues. for serious. My friend wrote about the most badass essay ever about Hobo Blues for a college entrance essay.

i dunno about that... that man is who got me into punk all those years ago. i was lukcy that my parents raised me listening to that stuff instead of some crap like the beatles. he is a total OG badass. i would say the majority of people are bandwagoners though.

your a clown, don't diss the beatles, your outta your league, jonny was country, not even close to punk. sex pistols is where your gayness originated. tisk tisk jonny would be upset hearing that.

I never realized 'ring of fire' was june/johnny cash's song up until that movie. Social Distortion does a pretty sweet cover of it. Figured it was their song.

Listening to social d, you can definitely see that johnny cash is probably someone who they grew up listening to. They have alot of similarities. So I can totally understand how his music brought you into punk.

A great number of many punk artists try going for that same style/sound that johnny cash had.

"a great number of many punk artists try going for that same style/sound that johnny cash had."

wow there are some idiots here! haha jonny was fully country, punk in no way came from his music style. sex pistols started punk, you might as well be saying that britney spears got her style from led zeppelin, it's just as idiotic as saying jonny influenced punk.

look at his attitude and his band's playing style. speed it the fuck up and what do you get? punk. you can't tell me you don't hear the same bass-lines in most against me songs. even the chord progressions are often similar to jcash with modern punk bands, but i am primarily talking about attitude and lifestyle. he may have been country, but he was punk as fuck.

for the record, sex pistols were not much more than a boy band. the clash and ramones are who "started" punk if you wanna go that route.

i would personally say rap came (many steps removed) from blues. but what do i know? i didn't know drugs had much to do with rap.

and you couldn't be more wrong. You might want to jot this down; next time you come out and call people idiots, you might want to check yourself first.

By labelling johnny cash as 'fully country' tells us that you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Johnny cash himself even said 'I can't put myself in a box or a basket when I'm working. I'm really trying to prove that there aren't categories you have to stay in, that you can branch out. You can touch others out there that have not been listening to you if you keep trying. '

Also, when mentioning who 'started punk' you might want to take into consideration that The stooges, velvet undergound, and the new york dolls were around long before the sex pistols. Mclaren managed the dolls and the 'punk' movement before the sex pistols were in existance.

And to say that artists like jonny cash had no influence on punk artists is just plain ignorance. Artists of all different genres look up to other artists for inspiration.

Social distortion payed tribute to johnny cash by covering the 'ring of fire' song, and you can easily see his influence in their music which blends blues, rockabilly, punk, and country.

Just as much as every artist out there had influence from other styles. Rap from disco, reggae, and blues.. with guys like bambataa, flash, and hektor.

Etc.

Techno/trance from 80's, club, jazz.

Point proven.

being a producer you think you would know something about music, you think waylon jennings isn't country, what is then? velvet underground(lou reed) was rock and roll, not even close to punk. You outta give yer dome a litle shake and wake the fuck up. looks like the idiot stick has gone around one too many times.

you were told. get over it. you are only digging yourself deeper. And what does waylon jennings have to do with anything?

they wrote together alot, thats what it has to do with it. COUNTRY category, life is about categories and if you haven't figured that out your a qualified retard.

"i'd love to give you a hand, but all i've got is a middle finger!"

sage francis -jah didn't kill johnny,

good track!

"if you havn't found out life often defies catagories, you have a lot of living to do"

nah your wrong! you can't say life is not categories. it's common knowledge, lets take race for example, they are all categories. skiing and snowboarding, thats creating categories. quit sucking nuts!

All this time I thought life was about chasing ass and cash? Thanks for clearing that up for me. I must be a qualified retard.

"All this time I thought life was about chasing ass and cash? Thanks for clearing that up for me. I must be a qualified retard."

It's not my fault your hard headed and can't understand the meaning of life. no categories, who you kiddin?

those are the people i tend to disagree with, they are usually less intelligent and just take it as it comes without using any thought into what it actually is.

cool! you'll make plenty of friends!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Nuremberg_Laws

1935: the "Nuremberg Laws" established a pseudo-scientific basis for racial discrimination. Only people with four German grandparents (four white circles in top row left) were of "German blood." Jewish is who descends from three or four Jewish grandparents (black circles in top row right). In the middle stood people of "mixed blood" of the "first or second degree." These bizarre distinctions had deadly consequences. As there were no real racial differences, the Nazis had to use a trick: a Jewish grandparent was simply defined as a person who is or was a member of a Jewish religious community.

see what i mean about kids like you, so irrelevant, not enough common knowledge, they have to seek help from other sources. haha i have more friends then you will ever have...but anyways, im not racist, so i dont know where you were trying to go with your Nazi shit. We are all categorized, plain and simple, it's not racist unless you say one category is of or lesser quiality then that of us.

You probably weren't born all knowing, so I'm sure you've had to seek information from other sources too. I have much more respect for people who use these sources to learn rather than pull information out of your ass like you do.

Back on topic, I've been listening to Johnny Cash since I was a youngun. I can totally see the influence he has in music. The fact that his last record were on a rock label shows that he had major in other genres, even rock and punk.

My favorite song of his would be Sunday Morning Coming Down.

your an idiot, it's common knowledge im pulling out of my ass. so i guess you aint got any, thats unfourtanate you gonna die a dumb fuck. your a dumb fuck. in a topic so simple, seeking help for information only means and should make you realize you know nothing, and your common knowledge is shit. what you got to say about that fuck face?
