go to hell. your a professional skier. instead of talking shit about other pros and starting shit with 12 year olds on ns y don't u just keep ur comments to urself or on ur own gay website. ur def. not even close to being the best skier but do u see other pros bitching about u and ur shitty style? dude u bashed chicks skiing on expn..what the fuck? i hope u get injured.

yea. its hard to tell if he was fooling around or not (bout the ladys). but if he wasn't, definitely extremely low!! i enjoyed watching that little shitty park edit more than i did symms yeah dude part, even tho mik d shuda kept to him self about his dis like for dumont and the spin to win philosophy, talking about how skiing is going in the wrong direction. that isnt true at all theres room for it all!!! it sounded like he was just trying to start drama for the sake of drama. but then symms responded with an equal opposite ignoramus argument. hahahahahah. my guess is that the two of them a reading these post and pissing them selves with laughter.
 
i thought that his blog was the most entertaining recap of a contest i have ever read. and everybody knows that if they were watching that live or at home, they would have been thinking the same thing if they were proportionately better than the competetiors as symms was (regardless of the gender).

those of you who are up in arms are either villifying him to draw attention away from your own hate-filled summaries of other people's riding skills or worried your name will appear in his next blog if he ever sees you ski.

I'm pretty sure he never put his play-by-play for the girls slopestyle on his expn blog thing. It was just on his website. Jeesh, some people need to relax about it though...it just all jokes.
 
dear thread creator: shut the fuck up. you said john symms was a professional skier. he also went to university of utah on a full ride for academics and graduated math mange cumma laude in mathematics. you're never gonna be able to stunt like that.

john symms is fucking hilarious, get a sense of humor.

and he already talked about this issue........go read his blog or maybe "technical manuals on point and shoot digital cameras"

Symms is definatly with the best out there, not the best but one of the best.

He have an opinion on where he wants skiing to be and where he dosnt want it to go and he 's not afraid to make enemys stating his opinion. He hates on people doing tricks that they arent able to grab and his skiing reflect how much grabs are important for him, he always get a good grab with most of his hand on the ski instead of touching the skis and claiming it a grab like the other pro's he's calling out.

I'd rather hear his opinion cause he back it up with his skiing unlike some other people that call out everyone else but dont do things much differently.

He's harsh ans he's an ass sometime but yea it gets people talking and I cant say I dont agree with some off the things he said in the past, he mighthave went a bit to hard on some stuff tho.

O and by the way he have a sick mustache maybe that's why I,m steeping up to defend the guy.
 
He's expressing his opinion...and actually presenting a solid argument unlike a lot people on this site. Where's the problem?

ok now we all need to chill the fuck out, i agree john may have been a little abrupt in some of his comments but that doesn't give you the right to bash him for his opinion. john is a damn smart guy and a funny one too, its part of his personality so get over it and go back to hating on other people for stupid reasons. that is all

Ya it might be kind of a dick thing to rip on chicks but... those girls were terrible. The commentary blog Symms did was also funny, because it was so true. Those chicks were throwing basic average tricks that are good but, not impressive and a lot of them did really in fact "Eat shit" like John said.
 
The skiing world needs Symms. He's a sick skier and his journal/ESPN reviews are always on point. His opinions, whether they're harsh or not, usually reflect the truths about the skiing world.

He should definitely be the full-time Xgames announcer.....along with Luke Van Valin

come on symms you need to be sexist and say the girls ruled the us open...if we treated them (the girls) as equals you would be more than justified in your commentary. let's keep the sports world incredibly sexist and say outlandish things like, "girls X pipe was SICK" and "the US OPEN slope for girls was progressive and fun to watch."

john symms can professionally step to the halfpipe, to street rails, to big mountain, to park features, to anything you throw at him. i am certain john can step away from this this East Coast guy licking the labs of the overwhelmingly underqualified women's professional freeride skiing world.

who here on this site truly thinks women's freeride skiing is progressive and just that "professional?" say "I".
 
The girl's Slopestyle at the US open wasn't progressive for even the girls IMO. What makes the comps so good is that people are throwing the same tricks as the one they're doing in movies and even new ones. For exemple, Charles Gagnier tried a SW 12 octo at the bottom of his slopestyle run last year, and at the time, it was for him a brand new trick that he had just learned. But at the Us Open, the girls weren't throwing(or almost) no tricks that they could put in their segments. But they're pushing it in the right direction and in a few years, they'll be at the same level as women's snowboard slopestyle, just like the first Ski Superpipe at the X Games, it wasn't quite as good as the snowboarder's one but we all know what happened in the next few years ;)
 
i thought symms was funny. And everything he said was pretty true. Theres lots of male skiers out their who get hardly enough money to keep skiing and theres all these girls who suck a huge one who make plenty of money. So how can you blame symms for telling it like it is. Girls sking is mostly so uncompetive they dont deserve to have events. look at girls rollerblading, compared to the boys its legit. But girls skiing compared to boys is a joke for now. Thread creator obviously has some girl friends who are pro skiiers and he likes to be their bitch and laugh at whatever they say, and he tells everybody that hes tight with these girl skiers. So go ahead and bash symms, thread creator your a fag. What symms said was both justified and hilarious so fuck off.

3:56 p.m. Don’t know who this is. Woah, nice 360. She almost grabbed

her skis on that one. Coming into the second jump and…she eats shit and

blows up.

4:00 p.m. Nice fakie 180, Kristi. Oops. Stays on her feet. And she’s

skipping the rest of the course. At least she didn’t blow up and eat

shit like the rest of the girls. Kristi’s ability to ski from top to

bottom without injury might just bump her into that coveted first-place

spot.

4:02 p.m. Angeli VanLaanen just skied from top to bottom, only

skipped one feature, and only looked like she was going to eat serious

shit one time. She’s in first now for sure.

4:05 p.m. Look out. Here comes Stephanie Meyers. Careful with those

knees, Steph. Nice straight air. Uncle E says, “That’s a 90 off, isn’t

it?” It is, Chris. Stephanie Meyers seriously upped the ante on that

last run. Kim Lamarre is way out in first right now. I bet her run is

sick. I joined the contest after her first run though. Hibbert says,

“Come on, Meg. Bring out the 900.” Yeah right.

4:08 p.m. Uncle E is bringing spectators back from commercial with

the quote, “Slopestyle for you newcomers…” I guess he doesn’t realize

that all the newcomers are competing in the women’s slopestyle right

now. Meg just blew up and ate shit on the flat-down box. No worries,

Meg. You’d only have to worry if somebody behind you was about to land

a run.

4:10 p.m. Kim Lamarre. She just ate shit on the knuckle of jump #3.

However, she grabbed her skis three times before that, which is three

more times than the rest of the field grabbed their skis. And then,

despite the bummer in the middle, she just did some legit-ass rail

tricks on the bottom. If I could do Kim’s rail stuff, maybe I could

compete in a slopestyle. She’s going to win.

4:12 p.m. Uh oh, Kim. Some girl with a name I’m not going to try to

spell just spun more than 360 on one of the jumps, and she slid the

down-flat-down rail.

4:14 p.m. Kim’s safe. Aerts is into 3rd. That’s legit. She had a

legit run. Kim ought to think about moving up to the big leagues and

competing in the slopestyle coming up after the girls’ contest.

4:15 p.m. 360. 360. 360. Skip the rest of the course. The crowd goes wild.

4:18 p.m. Battersby makes it to the bottom without getting hurt. She

might pop up into first. I didn’t see Kim’s run, but Ashley spun a lot,

and looked much less like she was going to blow up and eat shit than

any of the rest of the girls I’ve seen. She could take it. Just more

proof that ESPN needs to boost ratings and put women’s slopestyle into

the X Games.

4:20 p.m. Shanny Coen is going for it. Great fakie 180! Going big on

jump 2 and…she lands right on her side/face. Thanks for coming out,

Shanny.

4:21 p.m. Van Valin calls out a 540. Somehow this girl did a 5 taking off and landing forward. Amy Sheehan.

4:22 p.m. Commercial break. I’m glad I’m not judging this event. How

do you tell one phenomenal 360 muscle-flex from another? The technical

subtleties of these runs take a well-seasoned adjudicatory eye to

discern.

4:24 p.m. Ashley Battersby just shot up into first place. Better

luck next year, Kim. Maiko Hara just did an inward 270 off of the flat

rail. Progressive. Uncle E is trying to piece the lead change together

and says, “maybe it was that switch 540 up top.” Maybe. Maybe it was

that switch 270 disaster at the 2004 Powder Magazine Superpark.

4:27 p.m. Anna Segal killed the jumps. Then she killed herself on the rails. Better luck next year, Anna.

4:29 p.m. Caia something has just done some very stylie turns around

the jumps in the course. She got a little sketchy going through some

soft stuff on the sides. But her decision to stay out of the air should

lock her up the fastest time on the course thus far.

4:33 p.m. Stephanie Meyers. Last chance to dethrone Battersby and

her masterful handling of everything on the course except for her skis

(get it? she didn’t grab). And she eats shit. Work on keeping your eyes

open off the takeoffs, Steph. Keep those eyes open, and you’ll land

flat on your back far less.

4:36 p.m. Ashley takes it home. Nice job, Ashley.

i thought it was pretty damn funny, however i do understand how people are upset and it may not be the best thing for a professional athlete to say publicly
 
I think Symms is hilarious and is just saying that stuff for fun, i don't think he actually dislikes those girls.

he is a good skier and obvs has a sense of humor half u pc nerds need to chill the fuck out and not take everything so serious.
