man mcain's not gonna do anything stupid. look at all the 08 candidates. now look at there kids. which candidate has a kid in the marines and a kid in the army? the only candidate with kids in the armed forces.

He doesn't call it a draft, he calls it "mandatory national service", because it isn't only military positions that will need to be forcefully filled.

The founding fathers that fought for their independance from oppression, tyranny, and servitude to a national government did it all in vain because little terrorist fearing shits want to be taken care of and they are just going to roll over and take it in the butt.

Wasn't our nation founded on freedom, liberty, and individual soveirgnty that gave the individual rights that were not supposed to be given away? The right to live one's life as he or she sees fit?

Where the hell does being forced into government service against your will come into play in that idea?

almost every country on earth has gotten rid of or will be getting rid of in the next decade or so, any mandatory service they may have required in the past. There must be a reason for this trend, no?
 
Questionable. Have you fulfilled the two years' mandatory service you propose for everyone else, or are you just talking out of your ass? I don't see any justification for saying everyone should have to serve, but because everyone doesn't have to serve, I'm not going to. So I hope you're all signed up.

I was about to say thank God we will at least have a Democratic congress if McCain manages to weasle his way into the WH...

But McCain is pretty good at negotiating with them as most consider him a moderate

he might manage to pass something like that if he loaded it up with a shit load of welfarish benefits for everyone that serves

First off, that video proves absolutely nothing about a draft.

Secondly, I agree that military service should be mandatory for all citizens. I don't think it should be active duty and I don't think it should be for 2 years, but a year of training and reserve duty before the age of 25 would be a good thing. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be in a militant country. Switzerland requires military service, and when was the last time they deployed troops in combat, like the 1300s? And military service does not necessarily mean it has to be all combat training either. In Canada we do not have a National Guard and in the case of natural emergencies the army is called into help. If, god forbid, Vancouver is ever hit with the big quake they are always talking about, we're fucked. We don't have an army base close enough to us to respond to an emergency and absolutely meager reserve troops to step up.

Maybe 1 year service would reduce the number of fatasses in our society and build some respect for authority in our young people. Maybe not, but I still only see positives in basic combat and disaster response training.
 
The video doesn't need to prove that McCain supports a draft/mandatory service. It is not a disputed point.

Secondly, leave your government loving ass in the empire's influence and don't think your shitty ideas are going to catch on in America through the will of the people. Yes they might try and force it on us, but there will be hell to pay.

There is a reason we broke away from the British Empire, and that is because we didn't want the government stealing our money and forcing us to do shit we don't want to do.

You need more workers in a certain sector? RAISE THE FUCKING SALARY. People will flock if you have a good offer for their time and effort. This is just an attempt to get people to work for less than they are otherwise capable.
 
How does me favouring mandatory military service mean I love the government? Or any government? And how does it mandatory military service mean the government is stealing money from us? None of what you're saying makes much sense.

go ahead and think whatever the hell you want, but it doesnt mean that you are right. its a really dumb idea, wdo you realize how much money that would take? Tink about how much war costs us now, and imagine adding the cost of having to educate, feed, and house a couple tens of millions of people. not to mention that the entire collective population loses 2 years that could be spent otherwise on things like college, maybe getting married depending on what age bracket you are talking. Oh and it would go against the values that the founders of this country had.

There is no good idea about a draft. I don't care if the government says I have to, fuck them, I am never going into the army. EVER
 
Obviously you favoring forced government employment of all the citizens of a nation means that you like the idea of government having an enormous amount of power and control over its citizens, otherwise, why the hell would you trust such a massively influencial program to an entity that you do not trust and respect?

If the government is having to force people to work for them, obviously they were not previously offering enough value to the person selling them their time, so they take it by force. It is stealing, even though I was not trying to make that link in the initial statement as much as I was the later one about government controling an individual's life.

i personally would not have a problem serving my country if it came down to it, but anything like this will not come close to being passed by congress.
