So today, while senate is in recess, George Bush appointed John Bolton as the U.N. ambassador, without the approval of senate. I, for one, think this is fucking unbelievable. A man who openly denounced the U.N. is being appointed as the ambassador to it.

Great Job W. Real wise choice. Your thoughts?

It really isn't a big deal. Clinton also made appointments in recess, and yes, republicans bitched about it too. Bolton can only serve one term before there has to be a vote. George Washington also did the same thing back in '93. 1793 that is.

I was going to say that the UN isnt that old. He could make up for it, but appointing a fuckhead to the UN is one of the seven deadly sins and he should be sliced with a food processor and squirted with quenching kiwi juice. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I hate Bush.

Jonesy do you know how corrupt the UN is? That is why Bolton was appointed...to clean it up. The UN failed in Sudan and declared there was no genocide there despite the fact that muslim extremists went through and brutally slaughtered thousands of people in refugee camps. They burned villages, pillaged towns, and raped woman and little girls. It was the UN's duty to enforce sanctions and they failed to do so. In fact they barely gave Sudanese leadership, the motivators behind the gruesome attacks, a slap on the wrist.

Then there were the numerous (and by numerous I mean over a thousand) cases of child rape committed by UN Workers in the Congo and various countries. One UN "diplomat" was busted for raping a 12 year old girl while video taping it. She was just ONE of his many victims. The UN has failed to stop this rape problem of young girls, and it still continues in certain parts of the world where the UN "peacekeepers" reside.

Then of course you could talk about their failed sanctions in Iraq, the failure of their weapons inspections programs over the past 15 years, and their failure to enforce nuclear proliferation (ie Iran and North Korea).

One could also point the highly under publicized oil for food scandal where multiple UN officials were busted for lining their pockets with Saddam's dirty money as Saddam stole from his people. None of them have been viably punished. One person caught taking money in the scandal was UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's son.

And then there is the UN's odd stance on terrorism. Just beyond the borders of Israel the UN flies its flag right next to the flag of Hezbollah. Hezbolla is the second deadliest terrorist organization behind al-Qaeda. Not only does the UN fly their flag next to that of Hezbollah but UN soldiers pace along the border fence with Hezbollah's henchmen.

The UN needs someone that doesnt like it. It is an organization that once meant well but has quickly fallen into shambles and is only getting worse. I reccommend you read "Inside the Asylum" or "Tower of Babble" just to learn how crappy the UN is.

 
can't really argue with that. however, i think that Bush has not made the right call by sneaking him in there. we have a system of checks and balances for a reason. Mr. W seems to not give a shit.

Jonesy ALL President's have a history of appointing personnel during Congressional recess. As a matter of fact if you look at our past 4 Presidents they have all appointed over 100 personnel EACH during times of congressional recess.
