The campus isn't really big enough for a longboard. There is really only 1 hill and it's pretty high traffic. I would suggest just getting a cruiser deck then you can dip into the bowls and skatepark more easily and rip around.

In the hiring packet it says to send them an email with your departure/landing time if you need a ride from pdx. But you have to be at the campus by like 2 I think, so i'd try and get an earlyish flight depending on where your coming from.

Camping on the coast and going surfing is a ton of fun... I'm there all summer and have a hammock and a few other things.

I didn't even realize surfing was a possibility! Hopefully I can meet someone with an extra board or who'd be willing to teach me. So excited for this summer!

The surf shops around the beaches have pretty cheap board and wetsuit rentals. We used to do it with the in-between campers.

One more question (I think). This is for anyone: What's the weather going to be like off mountain? I've heard mixed reviews from super hot and sunny to rainy and cloudy. Obviously it will change on a day to day basis, but on average what's it like?

Typically most of June is still kind of damp down at windells but not cold. As you move into July it will likely be about 75 degrees and absolutely gorgeous everyday. End of July into August it starts to get pretty hot. Probably a couple of days in the 90s. But there is lots of shade around and you can always jump in the ark pond...

In the Pacific Northwest, you never know what you're going to get.
