Job search frustration

Mehhhh. I once responded to a pretty outrageous job listing on Craigslist. I told them I thought it was pretty crazy and they wouldn't find someone and blah blah blah. I attached my résumé and a new job listing.

Turned out it was for Hurley and I got an interview because they were curious to meet me. I got a call a few months later asking if I wanted a interview for a position I was qualified for... I had already accepted a similar job in another state.

It doesn't always hurt you. It's marketing. Get creative.

It's depressing when job opportunities are better in Spain than in the U S of A. I was making decent money in Spain, should've stayed there, worked at a school and made money private tutoring left and right. Granted, I've only been back in the states a month but man oh man do these "opportunities" look like shit. Better get certified as a ski instructor, but I bet even that isn't easy anymore to land a job in anymore.

I'll probably go back to Spain, less work, better people, better food, lower cost of living, and just an overall better place to live. Or perhaps Chile, I have strong connections down there.

I have an interesting resume (I think), because I do get calls for interviews, and 2nd ones. But three times now I haven't gotten past that point. I guess there are just too many unemployed Gen Xers out there with longer, more relevant work experience. Companies have the pick of the (desperate) litter now and therefore feel they shouldn't train anyone. That's what unpaid internships are for, right? Except those aren't worth shit either, marginally better than doing absolutely nothing.

+1 on the head hunter idea.

also, I know this may sound a little strange, but when all else fails - use facebook.

If you have a lot of facebook friends, chances are that somebody either works in marketing already or has a friend who does and wouldn't mind passing your information along. I know it's a little bit of swallowing your pride to do, but post a status asking your friends to help you get your foot in the door.

I just got a job, finally, after trying for a bit, because an old friend was willing to take my resume to his recruiter. Granted, my resume is very strong, but it wasn't getting any attention until it was put in the right hands. Good luck man, don't ever give up

Fuck, this is my life right now. Been applying my ass off for the past two months and have only gotten a two callbacks. Not to mention I can barely find any openings in my field. I've got an interview at an engineering firm tomorrow so fingers crossed.
