Jiberish Summer '12 Collection

Make smalls in all your pieces and I will love you forever. So many dope pieces in the Summer line that I didn't cop because they would've looked too baggy on me...

mitchell and ness fitted hats? SO DOPE. Hopefully you guys will drop some decent stuff this winter line, because the s/s was disappointing

Yea I know. Selvedge can be anywhere from 80 for un branded to however much you wanna spend but with the name they're using I'm sure it'll be in the 175-300 range, but who knows.

It's more the Jiberish Denim fund....

but as i said, never mind. I just wanted to point out the fact that if this were conversation I would have inhaled deeply and then exhaled and given up there. oh well.

no need to defend yourself. you are absolutely correct and have an understanding of denim and the value of money. hand-dyed, raw, japanese selvedge denim can be super pricey, and when it is made by someone like momotaro, who i consider to be the best denim manufacturer on the planet, it definitely is pricey. we could not have been more excited to work with them given the incredibly particular nature of premium japanese brands like momotaro. they have been amazing partners to us.

that particular denim will run a little less than $225 and is a slim fit. it is raw, heavyweight 15oz, hand dyed with vintage indigos, it comes with a 5 year warranty, and it will have very specific care instructions to allow the fades, whiskers, and honeycombs to occur naturally and to mold to your body. people who get it, get it, those who don't, don't. but it is bulletproof stuff for sure.

Really?

Momotaro 15.7 oz starts around $339 a pair. Not sure what you are referring to. Their Japan Blue stuff they produce may have confused you as that is their lower price point collaboration with a company called Japan Blue.

and by "a little less than the $225" I should clarify it will be much closer to $200 if I gave the impression they would be higher. I was saying that they'd be less than the guesses others made.

But you can get always great pair of 12oz-13oz APCs or other brands for $180 of course. And my personal pair of APCs Petit Standards have been fantastic to me. They are a great lighter weight option for selvedge made by a fashion house I respect the shit out of.

sorry, i was on mobile so that was incredibly poorly worded. $200ish is very fairly priced for a Momotaro collab, especially something that heavy. i'm just going to have a hard time justifying dropping that much on another pair of selvedges with my denim collection the way it is already...haha

I didn't mean to say that good denim isn't worth spending money on; I was more aiming that at other things. But I don't think I'm going to use this thread to shred Gus. He's good to me.

Can someone politely explain raw denim to me and why its so expensive? i can honestly saw ive never spent more than 30$ on jeans/any pants really. Takes me all day to find the pair that fit right, but once i find em, they last me a year. how does anyone order pants online without trying them on first? anyways, so ya ive never really heard of raw denim before. anyone care to enlighten me on why an unwashed pair of jeans is so expensive?

Dude, the Yeezy thread was one thing, but jesus you're stupid... quit acting like you know shit when you really don't. How can you possibly compare these brands when you haven't even seen the Jiberish denim yet? Not to mention the fact that although N&F is nice denim, they're nowhere near the top...

inb4 "lololol another kid trolled" - don't kid yourself.

inb4 "you mad" meme - I ain't even mad.

Someone find posting the instagram pics? And damn Pete comin hot with the denim info. I'll be for sure gettin a pair of my pocket allows it.

The idea with raw denim is that you wear it A LOT without washing it, or doing anything to fuck it up, and as you do, you build your own wear patterns into it, creating fades in places that match YOU and not where they were put in the factory, and you end up with a pair of jeans that fit you super well and are unique to you. Plus, heavy-ass denim can last years. The reason it's expensive is that the quality of the fabric and construction is a lot higher than your $30 pair of jeans from wherever.

Thing is, I just don't see the majority of people on here appreciating denim like that, and or will spend that type of money. Like Pete says, you're either with it or not. The stuff I mentioned is a range of things, different weights, price ranges, cuts. I was just giving examples of better known denim at the same or cheaper price then that of the one Jiberish will be offering. That's all. You need to relax. :)

thanks a lot man! i'd love to pick up a pair, there's nothing like a good fitting pair of jeans. if only i had 200$ layin around. mooooom!

If you've got 80 bucks, check out Unbranded Brand. They're a division of Naked & Famous, and make some pretty solid raw selvedge denim in a few fits, but don't have any branding or crazy bells and whistles.

Raw denim is not all that easy to break in though. It takes some wearing before they feel perfect.

Jiberish has always been awesome about answering any questions that i have emailed them in a timely fashion, but this is above and beyond. Pete sent me a PM answering my post; a long, self-written explanation, making sure i understood. Can you ask for better customer service? (Dont worry, i sent him a very nice thank you note)

For the others out there who are new to the whole raw denim scene, here's his note:

"raw denim means that it is presented in its state after being dyed but without being washed or treated. Most jeans in the past 20-30 years were produced with specific fades or washes to make them look broken in or to give them personality. there has been a major trend back toward classic, vintage denim with indigo dyes that are left natural on the cotton without being treated. This way when you wear them, over time they will break in and mold to you with your own creases, your own fades, and your own personal look that is molded to your build.

The japanese being fascinated with american heritage and vintage products started to reproduce the way denim was made in the earlier part of the 1900s. they went backwards in the process of making clothing to the days of hand-dying the cotton milled on vintage looms, with vintage indigo dyes that are left for the wearer to break in. It is a skill and a craft that is very time consuming and expensive but produces a unique, quality product that has a history to it. For people like me, that matters.

the jeans will definitely fade over time and if they are machine washed they will bleed quite a bit. So you soak them in black wool-light and then rinse with a specific technique (our website will detail it for how to do all of this) then hang dry. But the jeans are extremely rigid and stiff when you first get them and over time they break in beautifully. You will never want to wear another pair of jeans again.

they hold their shape incredibly well, because they are so stiff they really don't absorb odors, and so you don't really need to wash them very often. My APCs I have had for 2 years and I've washed them 3-4 times I think.

Anyways, that is the uber basic, intro level info on selvedge denim. And not all selvedge denim is created equal. Lots of companies are jumping on this bandwagon but few are truly using Japanese denim that is actually sewn and constructed in Japan. Nobody does it better and the factory we are using is the best in the world in my opinion.

The marking you will notice that can help to identify selvedge denim is a red stitch line on the cuff when someone rolls them up. Since they typically come in 1 length for all waist sizes people often roll them at the bottom. You can also get them hemmed with the original stitch to the length you like.

Hope that helps.

Pete"

What a great company

please please please have jeans that have a very similar fit to apc PS's, I'd rather buy from jiberish then apc, but I like skinny jeans and your other denim has never quite been skinny enough for me

484324.jpegnot sure if I know how to work this but here is a pic from someones instagram.

inseam is probably 34-36 but you get them chain stitched or hemmed with original seam in tact like any selvedge.

I like the Deer, the vest, the brothers of the blade thing, and the general look of the White Powder, but I'm not sure I'd want to rep a hoodie (or whatever that is) that is making coke references, and shitty ones at that. If I want to rep coke, I'll do it straight up.
