Jiberish Stitching Reliability

So I bought a gray lohi in the first drop this fall, and after wearing

it approximately 4 or 5 times I noticed that there was a rip in the

stitching in the hood panels. To me this doesn't seem like a normal wear

and tear kind of rip, especially considering the number of times I used

the sweater. I go to university, so the daily wear those 4-5 times was:

On the bus, sitting in lecture hall, on the bus, chilling at my house.

Here are pictures of the rip for reference:

I emailed Jiberish the following on November 24th, 2011, 12 days after I got the Lohi in the mail:

Hello,

I purchased a Grey LOHI from the AbstractMall website

during the first winter drop this November, and got it in the mail on

the 12th of November. I was immediately impressed by it, it felt great,

felt quite quality, it was extremely comfortable. I was a huge fan of my

Lohi, in fact its still probably my favourite sweater. However, even

though I have tons of praise for this piece, I do in fact have a

complaint about it. I've worn it a total of 4-5 times, maybe, I was

terrified to stain it with anything so it didn't leave my closet very

much. During this time I've worn it around the house, under a coat, not

any particularly wearing situations. After using it for what I would

deem a "break-in" period of time for a sweater, it now has a hole in the

hood along the seam where the right panel and center panel connect. To

be honest this is pretty disappointing, not only is one of my favorite

sweaters now ripped immediately before winter, but also my opinion of "The result is a company that produces clothing where the quality of the garment is matched by the integrity of the brand." taken from the about page of your website that I had believed to be quite true, is called into question. I've watched the video's you've released about

your trips to the manufactures in China and was honestly impressed. You

seemed to have your production on lock, and from everything I've been

told, I assumed to receive a sweater that I'd be able to wear for a

while to come. Sadly this isn't the case, but such is life. To be honest

I was looking into getting either a chopping wood or murica from drop

2, but after having the stitching on my LOHI fall apart so easily, I'm

hesitant to test the waters any further. I've got a pair of grey and

brown chino's, and both have great construction which is why I was so

confused with the rip my sweater has. Maybe I just got unlucky, but the

quality which I expected from this garment has certainly not been met.

Sincerely,

Alex Little

To which they responded:

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I'm happy you like

the sweatshirt, and I am sorry about the defect. That obviously should

not be happening. It sounds like our warranty policy has been voided due

to the amount of use. But here's what I can do. If you want to take the

hoodie to a tailor and get it fixed, you can send us a copy of the bill

and I can give you store credit in our Jiberish.com store towards your

next purchase for that amount. You would have to first create an account

on jiberish.com, but that is free and doesn't require a purchase. Let me know how this sounds to you.

Thanks,

-Tony

TL/DR:got lohi, 12 days later its stitching is ripped not through harsh use, email jiberish and they say they'll reimburse me for the repair with store credit.

NOW, my question is, what do you think?

Would you be impressed with the customer service shown by Jiberish, or do you think they fall short?

My biggest qualm about this whole thing is that they offered to give me the refund in store credit. As I said in the email, I'm pretty hesitant to buy more Jiberish as the stitching quality is terrible (from my personal experience with the hoodies), which makes giving me a refund through the store a way of never having to actually DO ANYTHING.

I spend the money getting it fixed, I likely don't buy any more Jiberish online, they win I lose.

What would NS do in my situation? Go away and deal with it (not opposed to the idea) or actually try to see if they'll do something for me that doesn't involve me wasting money after I already spent $110 getting the damn hoodie to Ontario

idk dude, as it said you did void the warranty, i would be happy enough that they are paying to repair it, next time don't tell them how much you wore it, anyways good luck.

Go to the most expensive tailor you can find. Get receipt. Buy new jibberish with store credit. Sell new jibberish on NS.

I agree that the warranty is technically void, however it doesn't mean that I have to agree that it is an adequate policy to stand behind

For the sake of this thread I'll bold that parts of the warranty that I have not voided.

Considering the number of times that I wore the sweater, I hardly consider the normal wear and tear aspect of the policy to be voided, however I have left it non-bolded. In comparison, of the countless other sweaters that I have owned in my 20 years on this planet, none has failed in the way that this sweater did within 10 days purchase.

Warranty:

The Jiberish Clothing Warranty lasts for 1 year from purchase of

the merchandise. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear on

the product. It is clothing and it will break-in over time. This

warranty does not cover the clothing if you decide to wear it and fall

while skating, snowboarding, skiing, biking, dancing really hard,

running from the cops, excessive partying, or other physical abuse. It

is not outerwear, it is not hardgoods, it is clothing. The warranty

does not cover defects resulting from improper washing, drying, and/or

detergents
. Most of our Sweatshirts and T-Shirts are made from organic

cotton and it is a natural fiber that is going to shrink some when it

comes into contact with water. Please keep this in mind. But if the

clothing is not holding up its end of the bargain and stitching is

unraveling or there is an issue with it in anyway that is not something

you feel is acceptable, email us at customerservice@jiberish.com and we will do our best to get your issue resolved quickly and fairly.

To put the issue into perspective, I bought a pair of Osiris skate shoes at West 49 (country wide Canadian skate shop for you American's who don't know) and the stitching on the toe ripped through no fault of my own. These shoes were $120 w/o tax, and I was given a brand new pair the same day I showed them the issue with the stitching. They could have claimed that i skated in the shoes (I hadn't), but they were extremely legitimate about the entire process.

but dude, would you rather ship your hoodie back and pay another 20 bucks for shipping or just get it repaired so you can wear it?

Probably the best customer service i have ever heard of unless you recall the Eheath OP3N skis incident. yea don't complain i have been screwed over so much worse

As far as I can tell, if it comes from factory with a rip in the stitching/ other area on the sweater, they don't really take into account shoddy stitching quality with the warranty

I had a level1 hooded flannel where the seam let go in 2 places last year, they offered me a full refund, exchange for another item, or replacement.

I agree completely that they have no way of knowing whether or not I'm being entirely genuine with my claim, which is why i somewhat understand their response.

HOWEVER, what are the chances of normal wear and tear ripping a seam in the hood, which normally sits flat across my back (when the hood is down) underneath my jacket. How could it could even get caught and rip in those circumstances is beyond me.

To be perfectly honest, I think Jiberish needs a more useful/thorough warranty policy overall (that can't cause confusion, or have different interpretations), especially if they plan to move into the more "mainstream"(and I use the term loosely) street wear game.

This. It sounded like it was your fault, not the company's. It must of happened sometime when you were wearing it because rips just don't occur....

first jiberish I bought, cross dot.
It came with a kinda fucked up zipper, (different from you, complete defect)
But i remember them say I could either send it back for them to fix, or if I took it to a tailor they'd send me a check for the amount
never ended up doing it though

The stitching unraveled and the two pieces of fabric came apart. It's not like there's just a random rip in the fabric. At least from what I can see. I'd call that a defect, not user error.
