What are the main things to know before hitting rails, and what is the worst thing that can happen to your skis from jibbin on metal surfaces?

you can blow out an edge or just slowy round them out...ask schwags! you can also scratch the base of the ski and take out chunks too. I suggest buying a cheap pair of skis to jib on

Unity....... word up!!!

Jibbin on your regular skis are fine, unless u race with them. It dulls the edges, i've been doin a lot of rail slidin and all its done is dull my edges.

yeah...just dont get clipped by the rail, pop enough and turn completely 90 degrees or u'll never get it....I broke my skis too, I dunno why I still do rails either?

Watch out for your cornhole bud

I've done plenty of rails and as long as you keep your bases flat on the rail it doesn't do to much damage. Its usually just scratches in the wax, not to deep, and dulled edges, which can be sharpened. Also, check for burs or cracks in the rail, they can catch an edge and possible rip it out.

when i first did rails this summer i tened to lean back causing my edges to get scrappy, now on my new skis when ihave found that there nto so bad, so my advice and .02 is to grind on a pair of skis you dont give much about!

Someone just tell me that you can get hurt more by not going hard for it, then you do by goin all out... thats all i need to hear

friend: You went to the ski store? Whatd u get?

me: I got head baby.

friend-in awe-: FROM WHO!?!?!

me: the guy behind the counter, i think his name was matt. Ya well he seemed pretty cool, didn't do much talkin. Got right to business; helped me with what i needed. Damn was he a good one. He coulda sold me some 10 year old skis if he wanted.

J-Dubbs, rockin the head skis!

dont think too much, i learned rails last nite and i didnt think much about them...i could do downkink in like 1 hour...just look at the end of the rail, pop, land 90, keep your weight forward, dont stand up straight keep your knees slightly bent...

Necessary for rails:

Good balance

Commitment!

And at least some speed!

123ski you may be going a bit too slow, I'd advise hitting it a bit faster, center your weight, and just ride it out.

123ski, alot of people keep their feet very close together and slip out after only sliding a couiple feet, if you are doing this....spread your feet a lil bigger than shoulder length apart

Sorry man but speed is essential. Nt mad speed but you do need to be cruisin'. That speed will help you so much with balance too. Seriously, the faster the better...to a certain extent of coarse. Don't hit a rail at mach 3!!!

Good luck

get some soap shoes or aggressive skates, and it'll help a lot. i can balance while going really slow on rails.

take off ur skis and do it with your boots.

or take your ski pole, lay it on the ground, and grind with your boots on that. it helps to get a feel of where your balance needs to be

It is unfortunate when everything seems to be going really good and the girl uses a word like 'dont', or 'stop'. If she learned to use these two words in unison, everyone would be much happier.

grinds in boots dont really help i dont think. for some ppl maybe, but since its really awkward to run in ski boots.

I tried it twice, the first time, i slid the rail fine, the second time i only got my front foot on, slipped out, and landed on the rail.

just practice on small rails until ur comfortable. or maybe even a box with a plastic topsheet.

-Cause im a Cracka-

YEah come at the rail perefectly strait so you will stay on. When you hop give it a small hop and spin. When you are on it look at the END of the rail. You are screwed if you dont.
