Jetta Speakers...help out a car n00b

my family has an 06 VW Jetta TDI wagon named mathias and mathias needs new speakers. I drive him most of the time so i want a decent sound system in there. the stock speakers are massive pieces of shit, no bass, sound like someone taking a painful shit. that being said i don't want to thug out this car and put 12" subs in it so i can drive around pretending i'm black. since i sort of share this car with my dad, he has agreed to pay for a speaker upgrade because he's really into classical music and wants good sound quality. i listen to rock and rap and stuff on normal volumes, not much blasting
now i know nothing about car sound systems but i want an upgrade from the stock system. just normal speakers, no extra subs or anything but decent quality. i'm hoping for some recommendations because i know absolutely nothing. so yeah just normal speakers but a heavy upgrade from what's in there now and not looking to spend an assload of money
also, idk if this is possible, but i would love to put an AUX cable in there, all my ipod connection systems suck, so if there's any way to stick one of those in a stock jetta radio it would be awesome
so thanks for the help, idk if im leaving things out here, im not a car person, i understand how they work but when it comes to sound systems and accessories i'm useless

go to a swap shop or thrift shop. they have some really nice shit, given that it may have been stolen. but most of the prices are usually negotiable and they have subs, speakers, tweaters, subs in pre made boxes etc. check it out wont hurt. but bring your bullit proof vest

I put some JL audio speakers in my car, and it was like night and day. I dont have subs, and the bass is more than enough, and the mids and highs are awesome. Highly reccomended. I dont remember the exact model I got, but it wasn't the most expensive, but it also wasn't the cheapest. If you install them yourself it shouldnt be too expensive.

I reccomend crutchfield.com. You can select your car make/model/year and it will tell you what type of speakers your car has and what will fit. When you buy the speakers they also come with very good installation directions.

I think it was like 140 for the 5 1/4" drivers in the front and then a little bit more for the 6x9" ones in the back deck. I dont exactly remember, since it was last summer, but I dont think I paid much more than 300 for everything.

If you drive a jetta chances are you have more than 4 speakers you have to worry about, since my car is a pontiac and they put the bare minimum in lol. I could be mistaken though. I dont really know anything about the jettas sound system

what would you guys recommend out of these?http://www.crutchfield.com/g_400/All-Car-Speakers.html?showAll=Y&tp=105

youu're going to need a head unit if you want to get an AUX cable.

moreover, you'll need a amplifier, a subwoofer, and then the actual speakers

Your link sent me to the select make/model page. Buut i know that already so...

These are the ones I have in my doors, they sound great. They actually have decent bass too. (for a 5 1/4" speaker that is)

I have also heard excellent things about the infinity reference series drivers. Are the speakers in your back doors 6 1/2" or 5 1/4" Its hard to tell on the crutchfield website

You are retarded. This is why you hear all these booming crappy systems these days. The BEST way to improve your cars sound is to replace the drivers. Then if you get a new head unit (get one with a preamp built in) it will sound even better. If you want even more bump, then a sub can be installed with an amp obviously.

Most cars come with crappy sound systems as it is. If you get just a sub, you will still have that crappy sound, just with a lot of bump from the sub. To get crisp, clean sound, replacing the speakers is the way to go. Oftentimes if people do this they realize they don't even need a sub to get sufficient bump. no_steeze said he didn't want a sub anyway, so why suggest one?

It could only make it better than it is now. I put my front door speakers in before my backs and it still made a huge difference. The front are what you hear the most anyways, since you sit up there.

yeah i don't really care about the backsi think i might go for jl's in the front and not get back for now
it says i'll need to cut and splice the wires to install them...is that an issue?

Yes you'll probably have to do all of that. Honestly, if you know that little about speakers and don't even know how to splice wires, you definitely shouldn't be messing with your door panels and drilling rivets in to them.

There are also many better places to buy parts than crutchfield, crutchfield charges like 200% of what most other online stores cost.

yeah, but crutchfield sometimes has good deals, and comes with wiring harnesses, instalation instructions, wiring diagrams, ect. for free. meaning basically if your replacing your reciever for the first time, crutchfields a good way to go.

i just got an alpine ida-x200 deck for my 96 jetta from crutchfield. drilled a hole in the back of my glovebox and can now leave my ipod in my car locked in the glovebox worry-free. changing songs and shit from the reciever is baller and safer imo. also put in a 10" sub+amp+box for 160 total. thanks to craigslist i can finally listen to reggae the way it was meant to be. next step is component speakers for the front, but just replacing the stock receiver made a noticeable improvement.

word i'm good at shop and mechanical things i just know absolutely nothing about cars and sound systems and shit, i'm sure if i got some speakers i could get them installed somewhere for not a ridiculous amount of money hopefully....
idk if there's a really good guide somewhere on how to exactly do it i shouldn't have a problem, i learn quickly...
