JesusStickers

For all those who feel the need to overtly flaunt their religiousness, I have a question: Are you religious or are you spiritual? I make a distinction between the two. One is made up of empathy for fellow human beings. It is the construct of a love for others. The other is the age-old ritual of social control manifested by behavior, not done for the good of others, but done instead to claim one's right in a religious group as one of the pack.

People who are religious have given into the age-old dogma handed down by the pseudo-pious. They flaunt their religion both visually and verbally to advance themselves in their religious circle, church, synagogue, temple or what-have-you. It is important for them that others see how faithful they believe themselves to be. By doing so, those who think likewise think more of them. Further, they do this because they have been scared into believing in the medieval construct of hell. To not act in accordance with the dogma of their "chosen" religion almost certainly means banishment to hell upon death. Nevermind that the central theme of many of the great spiritual founders such as Jesus, Buddha etc. was not about going to some fiery hell. That was the central message of the religious foundersthe idea being that if you don't follow me, you will go to hell.

A person who is spiritual is different. A spiritual person would do the right thing even if no Bible, Koran or Torah were present. The right thing it seems, manifest across all cultures, is to be nice, forgive others and foremost to avoid harming other people. A person who is spiritual will have these as their central tenants. They do not need to show people how moral or cool they are in their convictions; they merely do what is right and make no fuss about it. Praying at the top of their lungs so that all can hear them or so "God will not send them to hell" does not play a part in it. A spiritual person knows that these are all constructs meant to control and further the goals of religious leaders who may be deluding themselves into believing that by showing everyone their beliefs, they score points with the Supreme Being as well as with their religious compadres.

which word did u have trouble with? care to refut any of those facts regarding christianity?

corrupt - yup, the tithe was the original mafia style shake down

oppresive - yup, look at xtians well documented discrimmination and women rights records - oh yeah and that whole gay rights ting

violent - yup, most wars including Iraq can be traced to the biblical justification of killing the barbarians

how cool it must be to rep that on your snowboard and then push your "jesus" product line on nation tv...GREED

You're so wrong dude. You also spelled "refute" wrong. Everything you mentioned was something born by religion, not Jesus. I am not into religion. Jesus talked to the blind, prostitutes, adulterers, demon possessed, leppers, etc. He was so far beyond your pity little socialist agenda. Don't study religion, study His word and experience Him. It will change your life in so many good ways.

Good call, but still, please, don't go around yelling that you love jesus to everyone in earchot. Make it a personal relationship, and dont bastardize it with commercial bullshit like this.

this thread was brought up just cause of those stupid captions under tj's pics on expn and skipass

loser whoever started it

couldn't have said it better myself. Jesus didn't go on war rampages or take political stances. If you simplify it the whole thing all he did was live his life for the service of others.

And to another poster who said keep it personal...i respect that but as Christians it's our duty to spread the word of Christ, however it may be. I feel it's relevent in a thread titled "JesusStickers"

I don't really think putting stickers on your skis or board spreads any word of christ.

The only way it would attact people to Jesus would be because it would increases the peer pressure to be a christian. Or because youd want to imply Jesus is cool, because this cool skier obviously likes Jesus. If thats how you want to spread your evangelical word, then you need to reevaluate why you really worship Jesus.

And of course the discussion in this thread is relavent, its the sstickers themselves that are irrelavent.

By humbly welcoming people into the million or so christian churches in America. It seems to have worked in the past. You don't need this wierd, cheesy crap like TV evagelists and Jesus stickers.

many people don't go to church on their own, and you know what, you can say what you want but I haev a lot of younger skiing kids that look up to me around here, and alot of them have asked me questions about it, even older peeps have. and chicks on the lifet that see my skiis. You seem lukewarm to me.

PLEASE, hate on THE RELIGION not GOD, OR JESUS. Its not thier faults the beliefs they grounded became twisted into hypocritical egotistical ignorant shallow cults. Over time, everything becomes Corrupt, the Catholosism is a perfect example of this. God never intended this.

I don't believe that Luke ever wanted to JUST make money, nor do I believe that it's his greed that is behind the company. TV evanglists, you have a remote right? JesusStickers, you have eyes right?

Religion divides but Christ unifies, simply put

Most people do not like Jesus because it convicts them. People hate conviction, they do not want to feel accountable for their actions and therefore they hate the root of it.

i can't stand the whole Jesus craze (it IS something of a "craze", btw. our society goes through religious peaks and valleys every 30 years or so and we're just coming off the peak right now.) not because i feel "conviction", but because people are fucking annoying about it. you love Jesus. good for you. you don't hear me yelling about how much i love my girlfriend or screaming about how much my life has changed for the better because she's in my life. as the saying goes, most people don't go to church because of the people who do. i rarely go to church because i can't stand being around zealous Christians who are too caught up in how great their beliefs are to actually try to help people or just simply love everyone. churches have got to be some of the most gossip-filled, unforgiving places on earth. there seem to be more forked tongues in churches than bibles. i can't remember the exact quote, but Ghandi said something to the effect of "i love your Christ, but your Christians are nothing like him." until people start making a genuine effort to live like Christ, Christianity is a joke.

before you try to tell me you actually try to live like Christ, review some of your posts in other threads and take a minute to think about whether or not Jesus would have written that.

I think that it is horrible that people are putting these stickers on their boards/skis just to be cool and to be life everyone else.

If you are truly religious and religion is a big part of your life then go ahead and put the stickers on your boards/skis. If you are just doing it because everyone else is doing it and because it is the cool thing to do then get a fucking life and be yourself don’t copy other people.

Personally, I don’t ski for Jesus, I ski for myself, but that is just my opinion and we are all entitled to our own opinions.

all of these products are simply for profit and have no beneficial purpose to anyone...how does a sticker that just says "truth" represent being a good person?

I keep a picture of my girl on me all the time too.

And contrary to what you might think it makes an impact especially on the younger kids. If your good your probably someones role model, and thats how I want to be looked up to ass. You may have never experienced that. Bummer

i fully realize i'm looked up to by a lot of younger kids (i'm a shop-sponsored freeride mountain biker and almost always ride with a few younger kids every day), but i don't push social or religious agendas on them. i just act like i always do. i push myself, i'm hungry to find my limits and then extend them, i swear and get pissed off if i'm riding poorly, i drink beer with the older guys when we break from trailbuilding (i'm 19 and in the states), etc. i realize that these kids look up to me and that i'm a relatively controversial person (one kid's parents won't let him ride with me because i'm a paying member of NORML), but through all the bullshit and riding that goes on, i emphasize one thing- responsibility. that's really all that matters. sure, i'm underage and drinking beer, but i will take full responsibility if i'm caught. i love dropping 10+ feet off a ladder, but if something goes wrong, i'm not going to blame someone else for my poor riding. people are going to do what they're going to do- i just hope that i can help the kids who look up to me be responsible in what they do.

i know i'm looked up to, i appreciate that, but only thing i feel i have the right to teach the kids who look up to me is that they need to be responsible with the things they do. if they want to go to church or whatever, power to them, but taking advantage of my position in their view to spread my social, political, or religious agenda is wrong. they look up to me for my riding, not because i'm a priest. i can try to teach them a few things along the way that pertain to both riding and life, but pushing personal values on them is off limits. i wouldn't want someone pushing stuff like that on my kids, so there's no way i'm going to tell kids what they should think.

if you're using your skiing talent simply to scream about how awesome God is, that's quite a waste of talent.

no, i understand what you're saying, i just think it's a disgusting misuse of power. you should be promoting safety in the park and the bc, not trying to tell people how to live their lives. get your fucking act straight.

I do promote safety. And you know what. I can represent whatever I want to however I want to whenever I want to. Some people rep their hill, their state, their crew, I rep Christ. LIVE WITH IT.
