oh please, kurt cobain will always be one of the best ever, plus brand new is nothing new, just grungy hardcore that made it to the radio somehow. That being said, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse would be my pick for our eras greatest songwriter, just real good stuff.

I've literally never heard Brand New on the radio, ever. Not even once. Also, no hate to Cobain, I like his music, but I have to say it's pretty generic. To each his own though. Maybe Brand New is nothing special to you, but I think they're pretty fucking incredible.

all im saying though is look at there fucking style. they are ridiculously identical. Both grunge, but deep as fuck. A little different in the aspect that Jesse is from a different generation of music

Nirvana was around in the 80's when you couldn't edit a track like you can now which may explain the "generic" sound of Nirvana, and why Jesse Lacey's voice sounds good on Brand News albums

No way, there are plenty of bands from before the 80's that don't sound generic like that. It has nothing to do with editing.

You have to remember in the late 80's and early 90's that sound was completely new and the exact opposite of generic. So maybe now it has been diluted by posers and shitty post grunge buzz rock bands (creed, nickelback, lincoln park, etc.)

This jesse lacey and brand new aren't better than Nirvana and Kurt Cobain. I mean shit Dave Grohl was the drummer of Nirvana. He is honestly one of the MOST talented people in music. With Nirvana and The Foo FIghters like come on. No no no.

Yeah I have, I'm not saying they don't edit, I'm saying that Nirvana's lack of editing does not attribute to their generic sound.

Also I just don't see the correlation between the two. How are these two related other than being guitarists and vocalists and male. I don't see it.

They're not. I don't really understand what's happening in this thread. I'm not trying to argue either, I like both bands. All I'm saying is if I had to pick one or the other it would be Brand New cause that's my favorite band.

i dont necessarily disagree with this, but saying that hes better than kurt, thats a very tall order. I honestly havent been exposed to brand new that much save from my hardcore friends who ONLY play brand new, maybe i was wrong about them tho ill give them a chance.

This is why i like black people music. It isn't a competition about who's the best and people aren't always comparing and scrutinizing the artists. There also isn't any big greats in rap other than say drake or Lil Wayne

I like Black People music because it talks about sex and money and cars and shooting other black people.

Who the fuck is Jesse Lacey?

so true. i have never read a trhead were people fight whether lil wayne is better than tupac or wutang.

cannot be serious.

what the fuck is happening? calling nirvana generic is just straight up a statement made in ignorance. i'm not even a big nirvana fan, but i at least recognize their influence. brand new probably wouldn't even exist, or at least wouldn't have been signed, if nirvana hadn't paved the way.

Uhhhh....what?

Brand New is a bunch of melodramatic emo bullshit which teenage girls and gay guys listen to. There is absolutely nothing hardcore about them whatsoever. I actually don't mind them (i'm not gay though, so I guess I am a teenage girl), but everyone in this thread is acting like a complete retard. There is no way some dude making pretty generic music can be compared to Kurt/Nirvana.

Ignorant? There's nothing ignorant about an opinion. Also I don't understand why people keep saying I don't understand their influence....I certainly get that, I like their music, I still think it sounds pretty generic. I don't even think the bands are comparable, they're totally different and you guys are getting way too heated over this. Calm the fuck down dude.

it's not ignorant man, just because they're the shining example of an era of music doesn't mean they can't be generic. listen to their songs; can you REALLY say their musicianship stands out among so many other bands? their songs are simple and catchy: generic.

Ha, sometimes, but so are you for calling a band that basically invented the grunge scene generic. That shit was as unique as it gets at the time.

i don't intend to change your mind about music, you may continue to enjoy brand new and i won't challenge that, but to imply that they have a more unique and original sound (which, whatever you say, is what you did by calling nirvana generic) is still ignorant.
