Well let me be completely honest. I downvoted you, you are objectively wrong about this, and devaluing the free part of freeskiing. Let people do whatever the fuck they want. This edit was creative, dangerous and cool as fuck. Just like Stept, just like B&E, just like real skifi. Why do you feel like you have the right to tell people how to ski in any way? Just because you aren't as stoked on a fucking cork 9 switch up as you are on a tailpress back 2, doesn't mean that Jesper is wrong to push the sport in his direction.

People said the same things about switch 10's and the same thing about double corks, but now people are doing them in incredibly stylish and creative ways. Let the sport progress how it's going to progress, and if you're not actively progressing the sport yourself, then shut the fuck up.
 
Lol Jesper is rad. I'm sure he could do stylish cork fives all day and win the hearts of many if he wanted.

Also does nobody remember how, in the later 2000s or maybe earlier, a lot of videos were all about big park features like that? That's how I remember it at least. There were a lot of gap to rails and big disasters were popular. This isn't any different, it's just everybody is way better than they were back then.
 
What I like about edits like Unrailistic is that i can show them to people who have never heard of park or freestyle skiing before, and they get hyped and super impressed by it and ultimately take more interest in the sport.

When i show them some mad butters they're just like meh. They cant appreciate it, but people like Jesper do a lot of really good things for the sport by drawing in a big audience because of the sheer impressiveness of it.
 
Loving all the hate OP is getting in this thread! I'm gonna go ahead and say it - Jesper is on track to become the next Candide. He has more talent than 99% of skiers out there. He's doing tricks that nobody else can dream of and actually making them look good.

So what if he has Redbull funding the bill and making him custom features. Good on him. He was talented and smart enough to convince a billion dollar company to get on his side.
 
Lol your kind of attitude is a big reason why I more or less left the ski scene. There are so many little divides within the sport and so many elitist "real skiers" that I've stopped caring.

I've never understood why people were so torn up about kids doing triples or the Olympics and all of that shit. It isn't stopping The Bunch or TC from doing their thing, and it sure as hell isn't stopping all of the kids at the hill that try to copy their style. I personally have no interest in watching the Bunch's edits, I just don't like them very much. That's that. They aren't pushing the sport in the wrong direction, they're just skiing how they want, and I can respect that.

Even if you don't like all of the crazy stuff Jesper is doing, you should still respect it. Any arguments otherwise are just pointless, purist bullshit and exist for no reason other than to make the person saying them feel like they are above the other group. How can you even push a sport in the wrong direction? There are so many different directions skiing is pushed in, even within the comp scene.

Part of me wants to disagree with your candide statement but I totally get what youre saying.

Hes fucking nuts, I'm not a fan of the whole spin more flip more movement but the shit hes doing is off the chain and is really fun to watch. Super entertaining skiing.

Skiing would get so old and boring if it was just a one direction sport or even a few. I think what he brings is unique and diversifies it that much more. Skiing hasn't got ruined for me till someone gets a perfect 100% in the halfpipe and does hand drag or two on the way down.

We all fit into niches in the ski world and the pros do the same. The internet lets us chose what we want to watch.

Jesper Tjäder is bringing something fresh to the table. He has a pretty fun style and likes to get creative with what can be done with skiing: Exactly what modern athletes should be doing. I swear to god when it comes to hip-hop and freeskiing anything progressive has people fingering their assholes pissing themselves off about nothing. Being progressive is how things develop, so just let yourselves get used to some new ideas and don't be so OG-freeskiing because nobody gives a fuck if you started watching Jon Olson back in 2001. Be open and you might just learn something cool about the modern world.

Nobody is ruining freeskiing. Calm your overly stimulated tits and enjoy the progressive skiing and cinematography of modern edits, both are fucking amazing. Skiing is skiing. It's all amazing.
 
Oh and don't forget that more techy-skiers like Jesper let us appreciate soulful skiers like Edollo and B-Dog. Love what you love and don't hate on what others prefer. Everybody's different.

Sure people can voice there opinions but people should not change what they enjoy to fit what some jackass on the internet said.

I appreciate you responding rather than just downvoting. I understand we have a difference of opinion, but let me reply to somethings to said.

I don't have any right to tell people how to ski, nor did I tell anyone how to ski in my post. I'm not telling Jesper to ski differently. I'm expressing that what he is portraying doesn't represent our community/sport in my opinion, and doing so is detrimental to the entirety of us.

What devalues the free part of freeskiing is having redbull spend insane amounts of money on custom features so that a cork 9 switch up becomes a possibility. That doesn't exist anywhere else and the box was probably broken down after the shoot. Whatever though, hardly the point. The free in freesking is not the end all be all of this argument, it's just a word that is used instead of newschool.

"Let the sport progress how its going to progress." No. We need to be acutely aware of what is happening within our sport just as we need to be aware of our global environment. If that thought process prevailed in our world we'd burn all the fossil fuels and kill ourselves. I know its an exaggerated comparison, but it shows value in stepping back to access our actions and progression. Some things simply aren't sustainable.

No, that's a total misunderstanding of what I said. While skiing the only thing that matters is fun. I was encouraging people to more openly express their opinions even if they are negative because thats important too. If everyone just circle jerks positivity then shit that isn't cool prevails. I would hope for the negative criticisms to be constructive, but even if they aren't thats still important in a way.

Honestly tho, ask Jesper if he wanted to do that or if he wanted to get paid. Ask russ the same. This is about a pay check and maybe all of the people that don't like it are jealous, but I bet they'd rather be poor than compromise their skiing because that is their art. LJ has only misty'd out of rails at jams with a cash prize. He knows its not a sick trick, but it gets you paid so he goes for it. If we stopped doing that sort of shit altogether then we could impress people with something other than gymnastics on skis, and the people that don't get it will either learn to get it or they don't matter anyway.
 
All you haters need to stop crying. I don't see any of you throwing doubles onto rails or mistys out. I do love the slow styley skiers like Candide but I also love watching the x games and such because its just incredible some of the things they do. Skiing is about having fun and surely if hes having fun its all good 😉

I just think it's funny when people hate on competition skiers who are amazing at the sport get all fanboy about edits from people like the bunch. It's a lot fucking harder to do a triple cork than it is to do a tail press or some shit
 
there is no right direction, everyone progresses with their own style, his is a very athletic and ballsy one, others like huge nollie lip slides of down rails, there is not line of right or wrong with free skiing, hence free, He's skiing how he wants to ski and improving what he wants to improve, he is by no means "damaging" the sport by getting better, it gets more people stoked to get better

Last paragraph is an interesting thought.

Im 99% sure I didnt see any skier flip out of the wall ride feature at R2R, which was easily doable.

I saw a lot of gnarly rail combos this year that I havent seen before that replaced the whole flip out.

I get what youre saying, for sure. Its impressive, and a crowd pleaser but is it as cool as a super creative rail combo you may have never seem before? Nah, not in my opinion.

But like I said before, that kind of skiing can be super entertaining at times in my opinion.

Cork 9 on a switch up is dope, do I want to see it all the time? No...but it's dope.

You use Candide as your example of a slow style-oriented skier, but when he broke into the scene it was by doing things people hadn't ever done before. D-spin 7 was a comp trick when he did it on chads, he was doing cork 810s to rails when cork 9 was a big trick. Just saying
 
If you're concerned that "Freeskiing" as a whole can't handle multiple approaches to an activity that celebrates being expressive and creative, you clearly don't have much faith in the community or understand how creativity works.

You can leave your directive, narrow-minded comments elsewhere, and let us enjoy skiing for its universal stoke and diversity.

Having never met the dude.... it seems like Jesper always has a grin on his face. Not sure where the 'just for the money' bit comes from.

I imagine he does really hard tricks for the same reason that 'steezier' skiers throw mad armterbang or urban crushers drop huge bombdrops: it's satisfying to do a trick how you want to. I don't see a qualitative difference, other than that each type of skier has their own thing, which is.. pretty much the point of it all anyway.

Why would you assume that he did it only for the pay check? And in what way did he "compromise his skiing"? I'm pretty sure most skiers on here would be stoked on the opportunity for some company to build them their own park and whatever features they wanted to throw down on, and likely that opportunity for Jesper would be no exception. Also it seems like the original thread is turning out to be a joke, so anyone arguing on that side of the false stance is now becoming part of that joke.

Just so many gross generalizations in this. Lumping misties out of rails as a gymnastics trick on skis that people like LJ just throw for cash prizes is just wrong. Will Berman in less had a huge steezy misty 4 safety out of an enormous urban uprail. Did he do it for the cash prize even though he knew 'its not a sick trick' for that one shot he got in the feature length film of Less?

What Jesper is doing is huge for the sport of freeskiing. He is mixing real skifi levels of creativity and wackiness with a comp skier level of air awareness and technicality. On top of that, he's one of the comp skiers that is actually getting in the urban environment and dumping on features. Not just that hes flipping and 6ng on to urban features but he's also attack huge 10 kinked rails and back swapping around poles down on a Cam Riley-esque burly double kink. He's putting together award caliber segments along side of competing. No hate to Bobby Brown, Nick Goepper, or Russ Henshaw, but you would be pressed to find footage of any of these other competition skiers hitting urban handrails, urban wallrides, or putting together full length video segments.

I agree in that I thought the edit was a bit too much of a circus act for me to enjoy it, same with most of what real skifi does now

however, with the ease of putting out content on the internet I don't think skiing will ever enter a "dark ages" like the late 70s- late 90s again. I've been told plenty of parts of my skiing are unacceptable but that shit doesnt stop me, I don't think it will stop dudes like jesper either (especially with all that redbull $$$). skiing as a whole is so diverse anyways and kids who are just starting will always have access to all kinds of skiing, either online or on the hill

It has nothing to do with multiple approaches...I'm talking about this one approach which happens to focus mainly on spinning/flipping the most. As I said before, I couldn't dream of doing any of the tricks that Jesper is able to pull off. However, it's not a good representation of our sport. It doesn't fully encompass what skiing is about...having fun. All I see is someone whose doing something that he loves...yet trying to make money at the same time. It's a tough industry no shit.

I beg to differ.

The point is that skiing has room for and is defined by each of these multiple approaches - including ones that involve spinning/flipping a lot. There is no single good representation of our sport because it is such an interpretive, creative and expressive one, end of story.
 
I think the title says all. For Christ sake, it's Unrailistic! I don't think the sport has to go in that direction and when I first saw it, my thought was a far advanced version of Real SkiFi with a few more resources behind the guy. I guess it was pretty cool but I don't think the sport will go in that direction because without the average skier that can't do inverts I don't think there's even a sport
 
To say that the progression of skiing is being pushed in the wrong direction is not how I would word it. The fact that people are shedding light on entirely different aspects of the sport each year is the insane part. From the B&E show to this edit, skiing has really opened up in the past decade and it's admirable to see the changes in the sport. It doesn't necessarily mean that skiing is going to transform into the super tech tricks that Jesper was throwing, because that type of skiing is one of many. There are just too many aspects of skiing to say that one style is going to takeover the rest.
 
"Hes progressing skiing in the wrong direction" is such a dumb thing to say. Its called freeskiing for a reason, there is no wrong way to progress.

Jesper Tjader ruined skiing? lol If you don't like how someone skis just don't watch his stuff, but don't say he ruined skiing. He pushed the sport in the direction he's good at and if he enjoys skiing that way then good for him.

I don't see why this guy would limit himself at a certain degree of spin or at a number of flips, it would be boring for him.

there are plenty of skiers out there steezing out tail presses and cool grabs in cork 5's, if that's what you're looking for then just don't pay attention to Jesper, because he's the only guy doing these tricks and i think 99% of the people on here want to see them and you just have no idea what you're talking about

the last 4 or 5 tricks in his supervention super edit are ridiculous, you can't argue that they're "only big spins"

Idk, last I checked people in the parks were still throwing normal tricks.

Sure everything has progressed, but I haven't been to a park anywhere, where everyone is throwing 810s out of all the rails or rodeos on etc.

Progression is what keeps things alive, it's what has kept the sport growing.

Everyone was bitching that quads were going to ruin the sport, and that skiing wouldn't be fun. Now he drops an edit with all kinds of weird ridiculous creative shit similar to danny macaskill, and people are all riled up any way that skiing is ruined.

The parks are getting cleaner and more well built. A fuck ton of the stock features that everyone loves setup all purty, plus some awesome technical features. Even the tech features are less sketchy.

More people are watching the sport, more money is coming in. I don't see how any of this is a bad thing. Also when people started throwing triples, the dubs got more clean. When people got to throwing 810s out of park rails, the 4's out got squeeky clean.

I was just at a rail jam today and saw a bunch of 12 year old ish kids sending it on a dfd. Not doing anything too wild, but charging pretty hard on some big features, having a great time.

Maybe the big edits aren't your cup of tea, but the sport is growing, and I think there's plenty of room for all of this.
 
This is such bullshit.

When dollo was the first skier to throw a triple in a comp everyone went nuts for it, there are a select few that didn't, however the overwhelming majority did. Allot of these people are now hating on this kid that is killing it, claiming that he has progressed the sport this way. when in reality it was the skiing community who progressed the sport this way when everyone went nuts for henricks triple or gave any other exposure to people doing shit like that.
