Guys I've got bad news, we're the ones who use stupid lingo, not gapers

"Hey what are the conditions like on XYZ trail?"

"Are those trick skis?"

"Do you know how to get to the lodge from here?"

"why are your poles so short?"

"Everything is so icy today"

Calling bindings “ski clips”

or walking through my neighborhood up hill in ski boots asking where the lifts are.

Some lady was complaining on the one powder day of the year at my local michigan hill about how they didn't groom any runs

Hear the "yeah we've skied out west before" thing way to much here in the Midwest. Usually people who have never left a groomer in their life.

“I can ski black diamonds so I guess I’m an advanced skier”

“Why do those skis have a tip at the back?”

“I’m looking for a raised tail ski so I can ski backwards on the bunny slope”

“Why is a wider ski better in powder?”

“My son skis in the terrain park, he loves the little ramps next to the rails!”

“I’m 5’10, this 180cm ski is way too short!”

These are all things I’ve heard from customers at the shop where I work. It’s tough fellas, but someone’s gotta know about ski gear (e.g. most of us but DEFINITELY not all of us)

I still don't know what "bet" means.

“Oh you ski?? Have you heard of Jerry of the day!? It’s on Instagram. Oh my Gahhd. Sooo funny.”

”You know what I took a fall on that XYZ trail and I just said heck it’s time for a Bloody Mary! Ha!”

”Excuse me, is there a good green that goes down to the lodge from here? First day out west. My dogs are barkin!”

”Yea I rented these skis out in Beaver Creek when we went out there. First time out west. Such great trails. SUCH great trails. They had me in a 140cm so I said heck let’s go up to a 150, I’m feeling ambitious. The skis did me so well out there I said heck might as well buy ‘em! And you know what, I don’t even mind the sharpie marks on them. Helps me remember they’re mine! Ha!”

"I just like to ski fast"

It's always a dead giveaway if they say it in response to talking about park/big mountain skiing

saying they're "shredding the gnar" unironically

Fucking hell, literally scrolled through the whole thread to post this and you beat me to it. They're the tier of gaper who knows there's such thing as ski culture, but don't quite have the self awareness to know they're not really plugged into it.

Another one is "pow pow". Gapers love riding "pow pow".

And another is using the full lift name - "Screaming Eagle Express"

"I'm intermediate/advanced so is that a skier type 2/3/3+? Which skier type am I?"

1. Intermediate relative to what? If you can ski all groomers with no trouble you are intermediate with respect to tourist skiers but on a spectrum from zero skiing experience to pro freerider, you're still very low level.

2. I'm literally not allowed to tell you what skier type to pick for legal reasons.
