Alright, I'm sick and tired of his bullshit! Has anyone read his FREEZE interview yet? It's disgusting! He has the guile to call 'the majority of freeskiers' not able to ski 'the whole mountain.' Where the fuck has this 'badass' been? There is only a handful of what Mr. Nobis calls 'newschoolers' that DON'T ski backcountry and the reason for this is that they're east coaster who dont want to ski Tuckermans. Since the beginning people have being trying tricks off of cliffs. And another thing! Where has he been during all the debates wether grinding is skiing? You are on skis and it is therefore skiiin. What this old fart fails to realize is the doors that have been opened to skiers because of grinding. By the way, I'd like to bet that Nobis has never tried to grind, but is just saying that to save face. If anybody is the unrounded skier, it is he! I'd wager that he's never thrown a 360 much less a mute grab while during any drop of his which pale in comparison to the 'Big Mountain' skiers like Morrison and McConkey who know where the future is heading.

i posted about his comments before, hes a rad freeskier and all but i think he's getting pissed because hes not getting as much recognition or something like tanner and others are, but hes a rad guy and was super nice when i met him, and he hooked me up with the lange poster with the naked chick so i can't rag on him

 
though he doesnt get as much detention as many think he desveres, surely this isnt the right way to address the problem

ok, nobis is simply concerned for the sake of big mountain skiing, he thinks that these jibbers are lazy, and that they dont pay respect to their elders. I thinks he is mad because of all the coverage jibbing has been getting lately, and i think he doesnt understand that most jibbers used to mogul ski and can tear shit up in the backcountry as well.

 
but hes full of it, all jibbers look up to the big mountain guys, just read interviews and you will see that they respect the big mountain skiers

The man knows what's up, and he's right. Waaay too many skiers are stagnating in the park. True skiing takes place on the ground, not in the air.

i totally agree with kamikaze too, too many newcomers in freestyle don't know what powder is and just do rail and park, it sucks!

just see the snowboarder, before some of them were doing only rail and park and now the best riders are the guys who are going backcountry.

a lot of newschoolers are taking it backcountry now as well, just look at the happy dayz trailer, a lot of that is backcountry. but big mountain isnt where skiing is going to be, simply cause only a handful of us can do it, living on the east coast, i have to ski the park, cause there is no powder, anywhere. granted when i do go out west, i do ski powder and do hike for turns. but nobis just cant say what he does is the only form of skiing and denounce newschoolers, cause for us east coast skiers, the park is all we have going for us, and to say that we are no one just cause we arent fortunate enough to get 400+ inches of snow a year is complete bullshit

Its the other way around, there is only a handful of skiers taking it to the backcountry. Nobis has super strong opinnions which it says right at the top of the interview, and he commented on all these stupid little park pussies (eastcoasters) who don't know how to ride the rest of the mountain. Its so true. I see it all the time at the local mountains in Calgary. Fuck these kids go to sunshine and make repetitive runs of there shitty as park. Its gay.

1. Newschool skiing is a spectator sport. It's easier to pack a crowd around a tabletop than it is to get 50,000 people out to some big mountain comp site. That's why Tanner is getting more props these days, and that's why jibbers WON'T be 'nothing' in a couple of years. One may think that Tanner may personally be nothing in a couple of years, since the nature of newschool is very prone to injuries, but I don't think it will ever be because the sport is dead.

2. If you think that backcountry is 'truly skiing' then you probably believe that 'truly skiing' is also 'skiing for yourself' so why should you care about how much recognition Newschoolers are getting, and why should you even care about what anyone else does at all?

3. Parks are controlled areas, where safety is at the top of the priority list. Not everyone will want to go out of bounds to jump when they can just ride the park, where ski patrol can get to them and they don't have to hike, so they can get more skiing in. However, I do believe that if you're skiing park on a pow day, you are missing out on a great part of skiing.

4. Skiing is skiing. Who cares?

i must say i totally agree with what nobis says. he may be a little harsh, and i think that his opinion of rail slides is a little extreme, but he is mostly right. he give jibbers repect for what they are doing, but he correct on saying that a lot of kids come to the mountain with big attitudes, and a lot don't give respect to big mountain skiers.

 
I actually do have to agree with that. The worst attitudes I've seen on the mountain have come from newschool skiers. Our sport IS severely polluted with wannabe rock stars who have zero respect! Something has to be done about that!

Sure, there are a few bad seeds, but thats life. And it's way too short to worry about such trivial little nothings.

Surfing has possibly one of the best 'souls' and respect for the history of the sport out of any sport I've seen. But you snake a wave somewhere and you'll get straight fucked up. There's always a few little bitches.

Fuck, I'm a wannabe rock star but I'll still have respect for anyone that can ski, bottom line. Generalizations that 'park rats' are disrespectful in general is like racism, disgusting. It also reminds me of a golf country club attitude, if your pants have 6 pockets your kicked the fuck out. So what if kids are acting punk or thug, who cares if these same kids don't respect you. Is that what you're in it for? I hope not.

Another thing, if thats his attitude, then he's looking for the bad seeds and thats all he's gonna see. I rarely see kids being disrespectful but I don't look for it, and if I see it I usually brush it off.

In conclusion, there is an abundance of people who are way too eager to tell the world what's wrong with skiing. You know what, skiing is thriving and is doing better and better each day. When I hear people (ESPECIALLY PRO SKIERS) talking smack about some aspect of the sport I just laugh and think to myself that they need a nice dose of one year of FIS or amateur sport. That'll make em appreciate what the revolution has brought to us.

The point I was trying to make was that there are people in our sport that make the rest of us lose respect because of these generalizations that people make. I don't want big mountain skiers to think that I don't respect them, because I do. And I don't want our sport to be known for it's disrespectful people. I guess the lesson is, don't generalize, and don't be a fudgetart!

I like what iggyskier said. Not to dis jibbing or anything- like Nobis said there are some awesome guys out there... but then again, there are so many park-slave little punks who want to get rich by skiing two days a week, then sit around, play video games, and smoke pot.

i think its GAY how people say 'The real skiers are the one who do big mountain ect' there is no real skiers, if you ski your a real skier. And your a good skier if your skill leval is high at whatever you liek to do. All i gotta say to that is props, Nobis is the man, he said what needed to be said. not to dis jibbers, the shit they throw down is sick, but so many guys i meet think they are kick ass skiiers, and they cant fuckin ski at all. Sure they can huck or go huge in the pipe, but skiings roots are being forgotten. that is where u see the real men. You fuck up in the pipe, maybe you break something. You fuck up in AK, you die. So if u are a jibber, props, but dont get so narrow minded that you forget about real skiing. But i think the coolest shit is the big mountin jibbing, throwing 720's off an 80 footer..that is truly hardcore.

 
cuz as cool as sliding on rails is, it has more in common with inline skating than real skiing in alaska, and we all know where inline skating is now...in the shitter. nobis is right, 5 years and rails will be a memory, like 80's hair bands..tho i do love my guns n roses..

yes, and i have skied and hiked jay peak on a number of occassions, and i call skiing anything strapping two boards to your feet and sliding, i just find it annoying when someone has the nerve to call a certain method of skiing bad and say it will vanish

well nobis can do tricks, he did a backflip in Harvest, but i dont get the feeling he is realy into it that much. Newschool is mostly based around doing tricks and hittin rails, Big mountian and technical skiing isnt the same as mike duglas in the backcountry. I think nobis was just saying on how alot of newschool skiers really arent well rounded and dont explore 'real' big mountain. And it does piss me off when some skiers say 'the freestyle is the best' and think big mountian is for pussys that cant trick out.
