Jello, liquid or solid

it's gotta be in one of these chemical states. it seems like it's a liquid that wants to be a solid, and a solid that wants to be a liquid, both at the same time. what are you?! MAKE UP YOUR DAMN MIND!!

somebody, easy my mind. is jello a liquid or a solid. my brain can't handle this shit anymore

solid b/c although it looks like it will fit to anyshape....once it cools down i keeps one shape...not forming to anything like a liquid

on contary to popular beleif, it is neither, jello is actually a rare form of dog, created only when water and the powder is combined

the thing that bothers me the most is, that if you didn't know it was jello, and saw it in a glass, you'd try to drink it thinking it was say, orange punch. but it wouldn't flow!! it would wiggle and kinda plop down on your face. what the hell?!

p.s, i refuse to give in. i say it's just a really sticky liquid. so sticky it clumps together and wont flow anymore, because i know that when i swish it thru my teeth, it flows again. goddamn that sounded real nasty. GET YOUR MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER. hahahaha

It's definately a solid. But there are other things kinda like really thin playdough, polymers.

JEA dude remember when the jays won the world series back to back...how many times have the red sox done that in the past 100 years...

I'd call it a solid. Did you guys know that glass flows? I never thought about it my a teacher told me a while ago that if you ever look at old stainglass windows the bottom is thicker than the top because the glass, over the years, is pulled down by gravity.

im going to say solid... even though it does flow its only when its really hot and in natural temperatures it would be solid

i think jello just jello. it should be a classification of it's own.

solid -- jello -- liquid -- mist -- gas

Gelatin itself is made of a protein. (Proteins are solids at most temperatures.) When you mix the jello powder into the hot water, the protein actually disolves in the water. But like many things, it's harder for the protein to stay disolved in cold water than in hot water. So as the solution cools down, the protein comes out of solution and turns back into a solid. But it doesn't just form a solid that settles onto the bottom, like a mixture of water and sand would.

As the protein molecules come out of solution, they stick to each other. When they stick to each other, they form a complicated matrix that runs all through the jello. You can think of it as a giant mixed-up jungle gym of little protein molecules all sticking together. They water molecules get caught up inside this matrix so they can't just drain out.

So all things said and done, jello is basically a solid suspended in a liquid. The scientific word for this is a 'colloid'. If you heat it up enough, the solid will become disolved again it will become a liquid all through. But if you cool it down enough, the liquid water will freeze and it will become a solid all through.

its the same as a salt.. jello is the powder, when it mixes it becomes a solution like salt water. so im still going to have to say solid

the best is eating jello w. a straw and a few friends you can have your own jellogoingupastraw orchestra...cause it makes sounds going up the straw..fun stuff
