Jeep xj lunchbox locker

anyone daily an xj cherokee/any other similar suvs with a lunchbox locker up front? Pretty sure I don't want one in the rear so I still have good control in snow and on the way up the mountain, but opinions on front ones are very mixed. Also if you run 35's and up, what axles do you run? stock, modded, or swapped?

Im not a jeep guy but Locking the front only seems like a very bad idea, especially for a daily. I'd look for airlocker options for the back first, that way your diff is only locked when you need it.

yeah full lock is definetely out of the question, but i was gonna get like a spartan locker, which is an automatic. allows the shafts to turn separately when traction is making them turn different speeds. Only problem is horror stories about when someone loses traction in the front wheels so it locks up and then it can do some freaky shit

but lots of other people say that its really not that bad and to just adjust your driving habits.

Again, I wouldn't unless it's purely a trail rig. You do NOT want the front or rear locking on you randomly in slippery conditions.

Airlocker/elocker/limited slip in the rear first, or nothing in my opinion.

get a real locker or don't bother (arb, yukon, ox), dont put that lunchbox locker bull crap in any diff unless you are seriously broke and ready to become more broke when it starts breaking axle shafts, u joints, or itself. also 35s on a daily driven XJ is a dumb idea.

I get your point, but I am specifically wondering how they handle in snow from people who have driven them in snow. No disrespect intended, but I really just want to know how well they do. I was planning on doing an axle swap up to dana 44's with a selectable at some point within the next few years, but until then I am planning on running a lunchbox because the car is basically a beater to have fun with and not have to worry about super expensive repairs. If I was driving a nicer wrangler or the like I would definitely use selectable, but it will not be getting many miles. (I also have a Nissan Armada that I drive as a more dependent vehicle)

my xj went from lunchbox locked (thanks to the previous owner) to open diffs because of how shit they are in the snow, do yourself a favor and dont do it if you wanna drive on the road. 44s are expensive and not necessary for 35s, unless you get some insane deal on jk rubicon 44s its going to be cheaper to go right to one tons, but if thats where this jeep is going join pirate4x4 and post there
