Jeep Cherokee thought

I found a good deal on CL and am going to be most likey looking at it tomorrow. Its has 176,xxx miles on it, its not in great condition but mechanically it seems pretty solid. To the owners of cherokees out there how do you like them. Also its lifted 3 inches and on 31s

I've got 279k on my 97. Have had to put quite a bit of money in it over the years to keep it going, feels like something always needs to be fixed. But hey it's coming up on 300k, so I guess I have mostly positive things to say.

I've had mine for about a year and I love it, only thing I can really conplain about is the death wobble...

That's a ton of miles for a used car. If its a great deal there is a good chance there is a problem that will need to be fixed soon

id go for a subaru forester or xterra. ive only heard bad things about jeeps and the back seats are too small for people or getting down

I bought a 94' Jeep Cherokee 5 years ago and its still running as my plow truck. Its at 255k, It burns oil, the rockers rusted away years ago and the uni body is bent, but its not dead! yet.....

I cant praise the AMC strait six enough. They're fucking indestructible. Its the other parts of the truck, like the body and the chassis that you have to worry about, in order to keep it road legal at least.

Plus since you're lifted a few inches on 31's it will go anywhere you point it in 4x4 low. ANYWHERE.

Bottom line: Buy it, you wont regret it.

All depends how mechanically inclined you are. If you can maintain it yourself then go for it, but if you can't even change your own oil, you are in for a ton of headaches and shop bills.

What year/how much? What kind of lift? Make sure you're paying for the vehicle...not reimbursing the kid that lifted it for parts/labor just because he wants to get rid of it...The mid to late 90's with the 99's are regarded as the best year XJ's After that in 2001 and maybe 2000 I think they had new heads that were prone to cracking...

At that mileage, it's basically a crap shoot just because it's very difficult for factory components to last that long - you will have to replace/maintain a lot of parts

Don't be concerned with the engine at that mileage, it's all of the supporting components that will wear out long before the 4.0 dies. I've owned an XJ, YJ, two TJ's and now an LJ - the amount of time i've spent around the 4.0 is crazy and that's not even considering time around my buddies rigs. They are great great engines. And if the jeep isn't leaking any fluids its because it doesn't have any

...you've only heard bad things about jeeps? From who? What the fuck are you talking about? Are you high? A Subaru? Ahhh so many questions.

we had XJs for years back home, my dad swears by these cars, we had one till 2004 that was lifted and put on some mean rubbers and it was a beast offroad on 4x4 trials, now my dad drives grands and i have a CJ for offroading and while it looks a lot meaner, it's actually not all that good offroad compared to the XJ ...

and i agree with the person above, the amc straight six is a beast! our XJ for trials had a snorkel for deepwater wading. in 2001 while wading through a mud puddle/pond, the water came to about mid windshield and we slammed our side against the bank thereby breaking off the snorkel and drowning the engine, long story short they pulled our car out and back to the camping. (It happened on the first day of a 4 day event.) So we just started taking the car apart on the camping, parts where all over the place, the entire engine came out and was completely disassembled, in the end we worked 2 days on the car, cleaned and dried every part of the engine put in new oil and grease, a new battery and a handful of replacement parts like airfilters and other minimal stuff.

and what would you know, she started perfectly and we ended up driving it through the last day and even drove it 400km back home. in 2004 we sold this particular car and for all that we know now, it's still being used at a small airstrip as a tow and plow vehicle ....

if i didn't have the CJ already i'd buy an XJ in a heartbeat!

now on the other hand i think i'd be better off looking for something easier to maintain, with better mileage, and with a bit better handling on the road ...

reliability speaking, jeeps arent known for it.

if your looking for a high milage (100k+) used car your better off looking at them Japs stuff.. ie toyota, suburu, nissan, honda...

my '00 4runner just passed the century mark a lil while ago and still runs like new mind a few recent minor repairs. love her.

At one point my family had a Jeep Grand Cherokee and after about 4 years of owning it we decided to sell it. It was so unreliable, there was always a problem with it and the badboy would literally chug gas.

definitley dont buy a jeep GC they fucking suck ive had multiple problems with my dads had to replace engine and in general the car is just awful buy something else

Answers: si senor

my friends in high school and dude at work

im dropping knowledge man

i was high

i like subarus

i had a 97 jeep tj that i had nothing but problems with. and im pretty mechanically inclined. quality of workmanship in the thing was brutal. wont buy another one.

It's good to be careful if the suspension's been raised or lowered, just make sure that whoever did it actually did a good job and didn't fuck up the entire car.

Of course a jeep will come close to rolling over. They're one of the most top heavy cars ever created. But mechanically, they're fucking tanks. A couple of my friends have all of their cherokees at 200k+, they have to do a bit extra tedious maintenance on them of course, but they're still running. Personally, I wouldn't buy a jeep. Thats just me though.

Ive got an 07 grand cherokee and its great. Havent had to do almost any service in the 10,000 miles ive had it and it has 97000 total. Did some research on it and everyone who has one loves it and says that it will be stellar until about 250,000 miles, then you have to put some decent work into it. Also I love mine because it has a few dents and scratches so im not paranoid about it and it had tons of room to pack friends into with all their ski gear for a weekend.
