good. I looked up to him when I was younger since he was the only skier doing anything cool at the time. I was fortunate enought to meet him a few years back, and did a few turns with him in Whistler. He was a great guy, and a hell of a skier.
Then, at the 98 Olympics, I lost all respect for him. He was presented with the honor of carrying our flag at the opening ceremonies many days before his event took place.
When he did compete, he skied virtually the same run he used to win in 94. He skied well, but Moseley and the Finns skied much faster, progressively, and with more style.
Following his 4th place spot (which is damn good), Jean-Luc preceeded to blame his non-medaling finish on the honor of carrying the flag. Saying, 'whoever does it next better think twice.'
what a whiny jackass. Ill never take anything away from his skiing abilities, but I was apalled that he would actually complain about having to carry the flag, and blame his loss on it (carrying a flag is pretty hard work eh Jean).
Thanks for the memories Jean-Luc, but it's about time you stepped down, cuz it's time for someone else to step up.
sorry about the long rant.
