Hey im really startin to get into funky type jazz like herbie hancock,galactic,mmw,charlie hunter etc.. What are some other good groups/artists like them?

Damn dudes, I totally agree... I'd list bands but you guys just listed all the good jazzy funky stuff I know... but I third the recommendation for Headhunters. :)

I am soooo pissed I had a huge list and it all got erased because I was posting just as harvey changed the site around so here is an abbreviated version...

DJ Greyboy (Greyboy Allstars)-these guys play tons with Karl Denson. If you like da funk how can you be forgettin George Clinton and P Funk! Galactic and MMW are amazing. Check out RAQ & Psychadellic Breakfast for some good Jazzy Jammy shtuff, RAQ is one of the greatest bands of all time and they have gotten next to no recognition. BELA FLECK and the Flecktones are fucking amazing, they are like bluegrassy/jazzy funk, they are purely epic in concert. Deep Bannana is hot shit. Soulive is off the hook. Micheal Franti & Spearhead are awesome, they are like a reggae-ified funky flashin duo.

Yeah for deep banana blackout, too bad hope clayborn left though. And psychadelic breakfast is good too. I met a guy here that used to jam with them since they're from connecticut, but now they blew up and are touring evrrywhere.

It sounds like you would really really love Galactic to me. Definetly check them out.
