Jay Peak powder days

Jay Peak, in Vermont, has the best snow and glades I've ever skied, and the park is pretty nice when they get it going midseason, but the best thing about it is the snow. Last year, we were there and it snowed about a foot overnight and the next day was the best pow i've ever skied since I skied the day after a huge storm in Italy. Anybody else ski there?

 
i ski there evry weekend/holidays and yes u cant arguw with the snow.. it gets so much more then anythoer eastern resort, the linups are usaly short, the park isnt the best but each year they get more stuff for it, theres tuns of glads, and so many secrit spots that u can stil get fresh powder at 3pm, also not many torist, all die hard locals

 
u should have been there in 2000/2001 when we got 40inches over night, i dont no how but jay alwase gets more snow then any other mtn in the area

 
they call it 'The Jay Difference' and it's because of the way the mountain faces and the area it's in that the storm drops it's snow on Jay and it has something to do also with the meteorological pressure or some shit. basically it's a natural phenomenon.

i love jay peak. im from ct so my family usually only makes one trip up there per year, but its amazing. the glades are so perfect..... ahhhh, just thinking back makes me wanna cry and poop in my hand.

You know something that would really make me applaud? A guy gets stuck in quicksand, then sinks, then suddenly comes shooting out, riding on water skis. How do they do that?
 
it's definitely worth it. maybe you know where it is, because if you drive to tremblant from boston you basically drive about 10 minutes from it. It is seriously amazing snow. Jay is mostly why I want Public Enemy's.

 
umm, i forgot what i am supposed to be writing about and...OH! jay peak! i try to get up there a couple times a year. it really would be the best in the east if they spent a little more time on their park and pipe...then it would have everything.

ya there dumb they give the cheaf of terrain park and the terrain park groomers firday and saterday off so it sucks on weekends

 
too bad there isn't really a town. it would be an awesome place to ski bum.

so what man I'm there for the skiing. The hotels are extremely affordable and right on the mountain, and this year is the year i finally make it down the face chutes without hurting myself in any way.

 
didnt they hold an extreme skiing comp there or something a season or two ago? I have never been there and dont live anywhere near it but ever pic i see and the stuff i hear it all looks sick

yeah they did, like the north american extreme skiing challenge or something. they're gonna host it again this winter i think.

 
They had an IFSA comp up there two years ago, I'm not sure about this year. It was held on the face right over the tram that you have to hike up to. Probably the same chutes that he's talking about.

yes same chutes except i can't do it with speed, style or grace, my goal isn't to huck cliffs and win something, my goal when i ski the face chutes is to have fun and make it down alive and concious.

 
they got smallies like 3, 4 feet then some bigger ones like 15-20 feet, maybe a 25 footer but I never try 'em because there's so many trees it's hard to get your bearings when you land before you smack into a tree.

 
I've only tried the face chutes once and may actually never again at least for a few years because it was a bad decision and i coulda gotten a lot more seriously hurt than i did. sorry if i misled you into believing i was some sort of great skier because i'm not.

 
the trick is not to do the face, theres all hole buch of scrit shoots to the left of it. and last year i hit that cliff right to the left of the tram house that was sick... also theres a mountin behind it we call 'big jay' and u can take the tram up then ski down a bit and hike big jay... that is sick alwase lots of pow and like big mountin with many cliffs, u can also ski the back side.

if any one goes up to jay this winter id be happy to show u where all the dope shit is... theres a natural 40foot table and so many cliffs that only locals no about, just message me on the site or get my msn.. dotn bother to e-mail me cuz i dont read most of my e-mails

Some of the glades to the skier's left of the park and upper bumps on that (red?) chair are sick. You can ride them all the way to a traverse and then hit their not so good park for the rest of your run.

guys, u are missing the point, jay is all about the glades and the snow...there are tons of wicked parks to ride, tons of other ski towns to party in...altho i've had several raging nites at jay.... but the whole point of jay is a low key, experts only, tree skiiers mountain..and every year it gets more crowded, more mainstream, and sucks more..now we gotta hike in the back counrty or beyond beaver pond to get the goods...and as much as i love the pipe, if u wanna ride a pipe, dont go to jay! there'll be more snow for the rest of us!

its not like hes telling the whole world, there are only a handful on here who ski jay peak regularly and hes just helping us out for whenever we come up there, thanks for the info neil

thanks neil i'll probably drop you a note before i go up there. and besides, there is too much powder for it to all be taken away, and the new powder, the october issue, has the 12 top powder days of the year in north america, and Jay has one of 'em, march 23 and 24 i think. but neil when i go up there i'll try to contact you before i go. The first time I'll be up there this season is Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend.

 
yeah jay peak is fuckin sick. the face is awesome.

i was up there the day of the extreme comp last year. it was nuts, and it was like 70 degrees so the face got skiid off pretty quick. i dropped a 10 footer to 6 foot double cliff on the face and stuck it too. there are some other sick chutes further down on the saddle which are nuts (pumphouse hint hint is sick,cornice tight)and big jay is the nicest shit besides stowe

no you do not have to hike the face

yeah, i picked a day to hike big jay last year with my dad and his friend, but it snowed so hard that day that it was definitely out of the question.

Jay is cool, and does indeed have great glades and tons of pow. However, the run outs suck and some of the best glades (Beaver, Beyond Beaver, etc) are damn short. Stowe would be my choice for glades.

That said, the 'extreme' comp at Jay was a lot of fun this past year. 60 degrees, sunny, and some really good skiers. Its unfortunate that it is such a short run- but still fun. I managed to make the finals then tied for 3rd in the final run. Fun fun fun

 
stowe and jay are comparable, but i highly prefer jay

yes the kind of long runouts are worth it, and Neil, is there anything to the rumors that they're gonna replace the metro T-Bar with a high speed quad?

iv never gone on the cliffs up top by the tram, but for the landings, it looks like youd get raped by small trees..... er the tops of trees, because the snow is deep. yeah.

yes, the trees make it really tough, so it is really intimidating.

ya there gonna changing the metro t-bar for a quad. i dont think its high speed because its not that long of a way up, but i dont no... they put o fuck load of mony into jay this summer, not just the montin but arond it like hotels and stuff. we are also getting a gold coarse put in for the summer

jay is the best in the East. Every day I go, I find a new stash of Pow that no one has been to. Every day. Last year, at the end of march, they got two and a half feet. Needless to say it was fun. And the face is ass-puckeringly steep. Only Burke compares in the east. PEACE!!!
