I've heard the rumors since sometime in April, so glad to see it's neither Vail or Alterra. Looks like they are holding out to see if there are any better offers, but hopefully it doesn't become part of the corporate conglomerates.

Lol it will 100% be owned by a corporate conglomerate the question will be if their main focus is skiing like Alterra and Vail or if they are primarily a insurance company, real estate, plastics company, etc. who happens to like skiing so they bought jay. don’t get it twisted Jay never has and never will be a mom and pop mountain.

They'll sell eventually to vail or alterra. Guaranteed. They're just a smaller version of the two and those never end well. As we have seen both companies love buying up those groups.

Wait you mean the mountain that committed tax fraud to build a water park in one of the poorest parts of VT was never a mom and pop mountain?
 
sounds like someone will definitely swoop in and place a higher bid. there's no way it will go for an opening bid of 58 million. although im not totally sure vail or alterra will be the ones to make the purchase. it's not really close to a major market on the US side of the border and doesn't seem to totally fit their real estate focused business model. don't know if they would rely on montreal folks after all the closed borders in the past few years

Alterra owns Tremblant. Jay Peak is never really 'empty' and it doesn't need a ton of investment I'm surprised neither want it. I assume Vail feels like they already have enough they got 19 resorts from Peak on the cheap and that transition has not gone well at all for anyone. Buying Jay Peak could just be too much backlash and their core aren't gapers who dream of blue square basin and flying to summit county CO.

Yeah but if alterra or vail buys Jay, I'd be hard pressed not to get their pass. Between the two, I'd prefer Alterra but it would also be cool for an individual to buy it and keep prices reasonable. Vail would ruin Jay prices. Alterra too. It's kinda sad cuz their tickets used to be pretty cheap but have gone up quite a bit (>50%) the last 3-5 yrs under this government appointed controller. First time I went, tickets were $50-60. Now they're $96 as of last season... Student season passes are still really cheap tho

I realized I exaggerated a bit on price increases in the above post. Their window prices were not as drastic but they used to be on liftopia, which allowed $50-60 mid season. Considering that it's no longer offered on liftopia, yeah the cost to value seeking consumers has nearly doubled. In under 5 years.

No kidding! I had a feeling neither alterra nor vail would dish out for it. I don't know much about pacific resorts group. Looks like they own Powderhorn in CO, Ragged in NH, Wisp in MD, Wintergreen in VA, and Mt Washington in BC.

Curious to see what this season brings for Jay.
