Jay Peak - Are there any parts of the mountain that aren't FREEZING??

i'm hoping to go to jay peak sometime and i've heard its mad cold there. while i can handle it, the peeps that i'm going with cant at all. i'd tell them to suck it up since the skiing is amazing there but they aren't great skiers and mostly ski blues and greens. so, basically, does anyone know if the bottom half is any warmer? if u do, compare it to another mountain like stratton, killy, mt snow. any other info about jay would be great. THANKS

Its cold, plain and simple. But thats what allows it to have such a great micro climate for snow. There is a lower lift but really doesnt access much of anything. You dont go to jay to ride the greens

i know, i dont ride the greens but some of the people who i would be going with do and they also dont like the cold. so that lift ur talkin about that "really doesnt access much", does it access the greens/blues? and is that lift just as cold as all the others?

If you stay on the left side(looking up at the mountain from the base) It is usually less windy because the other half of the mountain blocks it. There are some easy blues over there and plenty of tree skiing for you(Timbuctoo) that meets back at the lift

ride the tram. keeps you warm and theres easy runs of it for your buddys. dont ride the flyer aka the freeezer its the worst stcik to the red chair or the jet chair !

well last winter it was about 30 in jan and then like 10 in feb it all depends on the weather patterns it was rainign last january

and thats on a nice day ;)

the lower chair is only a few hundred feet of vert and some small runs (and the mini park). depends on their actual skill level since blues there are slightly more difficult then your average family mountain

the green mountain flyer, on the far right side of the resort, is probably the coldest chair on the mountian. you come over this knoll and the wind hits you straight on, on really windy days it's miserable. the left side with the little triple chair is probably the best side, if you don't want to get blasted with wind. but it's jay, is really far north and its cold

dude thats nothing at all. i was there a few years back and it was -63 celcius with the wind.  Not sure what that translates to in ferenheit(sp?)

its only really winder up top and to the right when ur lookin up. if you ski hard then you'l stay warm

jay is cold on the dark days but when its sunny its fine...and yah if you wana stay that warm take the tram...long line but its warm i guess...jays pretty shick and the have awesome jumps...def. a good park if your friends can handle it...if not ditch dem slow as mothafuckers

theres a large mound of sand that fell otu of your floppy ass vagina near the bottom of the mountain that you can huddle around.

as was mentioned do NOT ride the flyer chair on a windy day if u cant take bone numbing coldness. Their best bet might be to just ride the tram since its completely wind protected and packed with body heat. it drops you at the very top which can be a bit of a shitstorm when its windy but it dosnt take long to get down to more protected areas, and its a nice long ride down on the easy trails.

anyone know what theyre gonna have this weekend in terms of trails/rails and boxes? or should i just head down to snow or killy

jay is awesome. they get so much snow and youll be so happy that you wont even notice the cold. i honestly forget what the temp was like when i was there last feb cause i had too much fun.

what else do you want? 3 out of 5 chairs either run or unload in highly wind prone areas of the mountain. The gondola drops you on an exposed peak. Any day theres wind it can get fuckin cold. Hell I've seen people get blown over in the parking lot. You can ride the baby lift which gives you a half dozen easy runs but nothing all that fun. Warmest place to ride is in the trees, but they aren't necessarily for beginners.

The reality of jay is that its cold and windy, but that helps result in awesome snow. If thats not the kind of climate or conditions they want maybe its time to reevaluate their mountain choice.

"Anyone else" did not necessarily pertain to just the people who have already posted in this thread. Therefore you did not need to reply. But thank you anyway for that enticing summary of Jay.

its jay in the winter time, its gonna be cold.

put some extra layers on and sack up man.

now that youve messed with karma its gonna be super cold when you get up there. muhahahaha

Hate to be a jerk but, everything that could be said about Jay, has been said. It's cold. There's great snow, and a pretty decent park. Stick to the chairs mentioned, and they'll be fine. What more do you want? There literally isn't much more that can be said unless you want specific trails that are protected.

I hear the lodge isn't freezing. I think that is your only other option other than what has already been said.
