I don’t know if it helps you but Jetstar is safe to fly on

Make sure if you’re flying Peach, Jetstar, Air Do, Vanilla Air, etc you pre pay luggage. I’ve spent 4x the amount of a flight on gear. They have very restrictive baggage allowance and tolerance for big items.

Ive found that if I fly jet star and pay the extra $50 ish for max luggage allowance they don’t give me a hard time.

Seconded...

ive flown the fuck out of jet star in nz and aus... they are solid, just make sure you pay your max baggage fees if you have gear..

oi ns,

question to those who are familiar with the ski and tourist community culture in Japanese ski towns-

Are popular ski brands generally more expensive and coveted out there? From my experience skiing outside North America prices can be 30-40% higher than MSRP for even last year's models.

Although against proper NS B/S/T etiquette, I'm interested in re-selling fat/mid-fat at a resort/hostel a bit below local MSRP prices. Most likely a LINE Pescado or Armada ARV / Magic J...

Hoping to effectively hook someone up interested in a new pair and cut myself a break in my travel expenses to Japan........

That could work. I saw 116jjs at rhythm snow sports Hakuba for 864usd. there’s a few buy and sell pages on fb. Check out 19/20 Hakuba crew.

a lot of people be looking for touring gear round here, a transceiver probe and shovel could be sold in a bundle pretty easy I’d imagine

Yeah haha rhythm has tons of old demo skis for sale on the suuper cheap if you ask the right person. That warehouse is loaded

Went to Annupuri this morning just to switch it up, but the Gondi and Quad were closed because it was windy as fuck. Decided to ski back to the hostel and hit up the Onsen instead. Got done soaking at around 3 and weather was looking much nicer so I skinned over for a few evening redemption laps.

949293.jpeg

949294.jpeg

Rocked up to the resort on skins and AT gear, caught mad looks from the crowd waiting for the bus. Probably looked like a hardo

949295.jpeg

949296.jpeg

Skied a few solid wind buff laps that got loaded up throughout the day. Then it started dumping

949297.jpeg

949298.jpeg

Cruised a few switch groomer laps on the fresh velvet and felt satisfied. I also forgot that skiing with a backpack adds hella steeze points. Ripped down the mountain straight thru the parking lot and back on the trail back to the hostel.

949299.jpeg

The slow ski back was dark and spooky, but luckily I wasn’t taken by any Japanese wolves.

949300.jpeg

Overall not a bad little excursion.

I'll probably catch a lot of flak for this, but this seemed like the best place to ask considering most of the NS'ers in Japan are on this thread buuuuuuut.....

*takes breath*

Any of you got the hook on the chronic out there?? Yes, I am aware of it's legality and am completely fine refraining; just wanted to test my luck and see if I could find anything/anyone could help me out

I was going to ask this exact question lmao. It’s so hard to come by in ski towns round here. Plus the punishment is definitely not worth it ... read up in Japanese prisons.

Saaaaaaaame: my buddy was trying to convince me I would be fine to just bring some vape carts with me from Cali, but I'm pretty good off going to Japanese prison, sounds horrible.

I might have some burner friends in Tokyo that can hook it up, but I think they're out of town at the moment (unsure if they'll be back before I leave)

You say its hard to come by in ski towns there: have you tried anywhere else? Like Tokyo or Sapporo?

Hakuba seems to be dry. But imagine you’d have better luck in Tokyo!

I am really killing to burn up on the hills over here lol

You have a chance to smoke at all since you've been out there?

Calling all niseko homies, I’m gonna be in hokkaido for 2 months starting in a few weeks. Saved up like 4g and booked a flight with no real plan. Kinda figured I’d run out of money eventually, does anyone know if it’s easy to get a job without a visa? Possibly working for accom at a hostel, or rentals/video work. Also,,, does anyone know of a room available for rent. Message me if your around niseko, id like to ride with y’all.

Is it difficult for Americans to find work in Japan? Like (dumb question alert) because of WW2 and such?

I have no idea since I've never worked abroad but I think it has to do with a work visa situation and country reciprocation. Like how its super easy for aussies to work at whistler/banff and then canadians can work in australia as well but theres no similar agreement for americans.

Yes but has nothing to do with ww2 has everything to do with no work holiday Visa like other countries have..

Canucks, Aussies, kiwis, poms and aussies have no issue

I had to be spansorized

Aus and nz both give 1yr visas to Americans even without reciprocity..

If you’re american, I would recommend being super friendly in Niseko and see if you can find somewhere to work under the table. If your Canadian or from down under then you’re in luck

Well shit, I just took a look at the snow reports and didnt realize until just now Japan is having a below average start to the season!

I'm in Osaka right now, but will be riding by the 6th.

How's it out there fellow NS'ers? How's the coverage? Think this next storm this weekend will help open everything up??

Yeahp. The season is late so it is just the base being filled now. But by Monday it should be a little bit better, and hopefully open up a few more mountains. Another 30-50cm on top of this weekends storm will be when things really start to get good.

Just waiting for these Japanese holidays to end.

So I would be correct in assuming that backcountry (and sidecountry) are a no go right now? Gates all closed?

Hows the coverage though?

Alpine is fucking sweet but mid to low is average. I mean at happo you can ski top to bottom but definitely need another 50-100 for it to be optimal

We have a member of our crew who doesn't have epic pass who could use this. I'll PM.

A few other Qs...

When the season gets going, are people riding with a beacon shovel probe inbounds?

Anyone been to onsens with tattoos?

In niseko theres some inbounds "backcountry" gates areas where they require avy gear for entry so probably some places yeah

And yes. If you're gaijin they dont care much. If you're Japanese or even just Asian with tattoos they sometimes wont let you..

But unless it's like ultra traditional they're usually less silly about it. You might get a scowl though
