Japan just got hit with a 7.9 earthquake

Holy shit this is insane. Watching on Fox news right now. (dont hate, just only news network on this late).

My buddy is supposed to leave for Japan to study for 5 months in a couple weeks. I hope this doesn't change it for em

China will be okay, it's the east coast of Japan and the water isn't stopping either. There are some serious areas of flooding right now. It's surreal to watch on the news and people are getting swept away in cars.

We were down in the museum here in hokkaido and the lights satrted swaying and the snow on the roof was all falling off. First home and now here in Japan. NExt is california, pacific rim gonna blow.

Crazy you felt it there. We felt it for like 15 minutes but never very severe. South Hokkaido is really dangerous right now for flooding/tsunamis. Stay safe!

If you know people in hawaii, send them this report right now, and tell them to get the fuck away from the shore...
http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=usa&wwa=Tsunami%20Warning

A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED THAT COULD CAUSE DAMAGE ALONG COASTLINES OF ALL ISLANDS IN THE STATE OF HAWAII. URGENT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN TO PROTECT LIVES AND PROPERTY. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF LONG OCEAN WAVES. EACH INDIVIDUAL WAVE CREST CAN LAST 5 TO 15 MINUTES OR MORE AND EXTENSIVELY FLOOD COASTAL AREAS. THE DANGER CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AFTER THE INITIAL WAVE AS SUBSEQUENT WAVES ARRIVE. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVES EFFICIENTLY WRAP AROUND ISLANDS. ALL SHORES ARE AT RISK NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY FACE. THE TROUGH OF A TSUNAMI WAVE MAY TEMPORARILY EXPOSE THE SEAFLOOR BUT THE AREA WILL QUICKLY FLOOD AGAIN. EXTREMELY STRONG AND UNUSUAL NEARSHORE CURRENTS CAN ACCOMPANY A TSUNAMI. DEBRIS PICKED UP AND CARRIED BY A TSUNAMI AMPLIFIES ITS DESTRUCTIVE POWER. SIMULTANEOUS HIGH TIDES OR HIGH SURF CAN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASE THE TSUNAMI HAZARD. THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL TIME IN HAWAII OF THE FIRST TSUNAMI WAVE IS 0259 AM HST FRI 11 MAR 2011MESSAGES WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER AS CONDITIONS WARRANT.

Tsunami has reached Hokkaido now. Although hopefully it is losing some momentum. I'm quite a way from the coast, so will not be affected, but I know a LOT of people who will be.

I can't believe what I saw on the news, the water was rising and rising, and starting to flood cars, and still they were waiting at red lights.

Yeah man, Im still in Kutchan. Was pretty weird, we were walking on the road for the first one and thought it was just the bridge swaying then we were in the museum and could feel it hard, was quite eery, just swaying felt like it was gonna start shhhhaaaking. Where are you know?

Called my friend who's currently working in Hokkaido. Everything seems to be alright where he is, that said he's far inland...

oh my gosh they just showed a car speeding away from a wall of water and they had to slam on the breaks because another one was right in their way. too effing scary.

yeah i know, i'm talking to my aunt whos there right now and its crazy there right now getting to higher ground.

"japanese people are use to earthquakes"

shut the fuck up cnn, no one can be prepared for an 8.9 quake, there is no way

Just got a hold of my friend, he was in Shibuya and was OK, but couldn't talk right now, the background sounded like a war, panic.

I'm seeing it. I would be livid if anyone I knew made some sort of lowbrow joke about this. I'm legitimately sad, I feel terrible watching this happen. I can't even believe it.

This is straight disturbing. To think that all those cars' owners are likely dead, as well as everyone living in the path of the wave... It's got me feeling so down. Mad vibes to everyone over there and everyone who knows people there.

Lots of japanese characters flying all over my facebook feed...
watching this footage... people trying to flee the giant floatin debris field in cars, only to get swept up into the debris... huge waves rolling in.
this is so scary...
tsunami warning for SF Bay Area. 8:16 ETA.

Jesus, I can't even believe what I'm looking at. I don't even know what to say, other than I hope they can get as many people out safely as humanly possible...holy shit, this is horrible.
