Jamie pierre: sick badass or religious extremist

besides your hypocritical closing gay comments, you make a good point. Let me take it a step further. Pierre was asking everyone, the crew and the viewers, to accept Jesus and his being nailed to a cross for "our sins" in case he died so he could see them in heaven. This implies he thought he was making the last run of the day. When you have people in your life and you put yourself in a situation like that, it is no longer religious faith you are calling on but a disconnect from reality. A kid, baby-momma, parents, friends. all these people who would be devastated that he died doing something to satisfy a need to be noticed. Pathetic. I ski for myself. I drop 20 30 footers cause I love it. I have gone bigger but it is rare. My wife is too important to me. My dogs are too important to me. I ski hard but am always aware of my mortality and make decisions based on that. That is what I feel Pierre is missing and am critical of. The use of religion to achieve it is a side note.
 
since I started this I will respond. of course I know that. that is my point. what is the point of dropping something you can't ski away from? He could have gone off on an innertube and achieved the same end result; buried in his own bomb hole. That is not sticking a cliff drop. If some gapper douchebag drops Hollywood cliffs at Vail and starfishes into the gully, does he have the right to say he dropped hollywood....no, you ahve to stick it at least partially clean.
 
How about confidence in your abilities? Wouldn't that do the trick? I guess when you don't or are doing something stupid, it is good to pass the buck to some higher being.
 
Are you seriously comparing a selfish egoist masquerading as a jesus freak dropping a stupid big cliff to a person who is ordered to go blow shit up in defense of their country? Man, that is one hell of a reach. "Talk shit about him", no, I am being critical of his decisions and the idea of the rewards. Yeah, he is a great skier. No, those skills were of no use to him at about 85 feet through 245 feet. During that time he was simply a ski BASEr with no chute that went off too small a cliff to BASE off of.
 


1. JP had no intention of skiing away from this drop. It was a huck and he knew it before hand and smiled about it afterwards. Landing on his back took nothing away from his feat (get it, pun).

2. His invocations of religon had more to do with his acceoptance that this could be the last thing on earth he would do. He knew that the momment he commited that his life could be over. In times like that, and with egos like his it is no small stretch to think of oneself as some religous martyr. Fuck dude we all have some martydom in us, what the fuck do you think kodak courage is?? Huck it for the picture and for the chairlift bro!!

3. Give the dude a break, he is just a skier, not some doctor of theology or religous scholar, he is just a big hucker skier with limited ability to explain the huge wave of emotions that swept through him mas he commited to his jump.

You are reading into his statements way to much, and then try to deflate his achievement by claiming that by landing on his back he sucked.

How about you step away from your comfort zone, and try to think about the emotions he had while trying this jump....
 
The relation I was making was simply that both men risk death as part of thier career fields....and that it wasn't a disrespect to his family. And seriously, this is a little out of hand, you are comparing (of all things) Jamie dropping a huge cliff and thanking God, to someone who uses religion as a sad excuse to terrorize nations and kill innocent people. Who's reaching now?
 
You are one of the first to write an intelligent response...thank you. Albeit that, I don't have much issue going outside my comfort zone. I can envision the fear that was wrecking him at that moment. I disagree that landing on his (head actually) back didn't take anything away from the feat. If you throw a new spin on a fat table and don't stick the landing, do you still claim the trick? I certainly hope not. Like I said before, he could have gone off the cliff wearing arm floaties and a tutu and had the same result. It isn't skiing if you aren't trying to ski it. The size of the cliff is irrelevant when categorizing the feat as a skier going off a cliff. It is more important that the skier ski away from the event like a skier should, even if the plan is to ditch on the landing. The dude couldn't even get up for who knows how long afterwards. As far as religious martydom.....dude, I don't know where you stand on the religion tip, but I am no martyr. I show off and get kodak courage but that is not even the same ballpark as dropping a 245 cliff. That even ties into my main point of that he is pathological. He never mentioned his kid or his kids mother. That is just wrong. "I may die today but I want to make sure my kid resents me forever so I won't even mention him/her on the film footage before I die". Not cool.

And lastly, never once did I say he sucked. I never even implied it. I actually have said the opposite. I know his skiing and know he is a great skier. He landed on his back. He needed to be dug out. He couldn't get up for an unknown amount of time. He didn't ski a 245 cliff. He jumped off of one with skis on. Big difference.
 
no, i was comparing pierre to someone who uses religion to amp themselves up to do something they probably wouldn't be able to do without an extraordinary faith in some higher power. Not such a reach since I got that idea from Pierre himself.
 
you are right I won't, but I will drop 10,000 feet and release my chute and do some pretty heavy G spins on the way down...so as far as balls, I think mine are big enough....oh, and let us not forget the 23 BASE jumps I have under my belt...get real...keep spinning in your perfectly built and daily maintained park you rat

basically unless thats from like 4 years ago, you would maybe have a chance to steppin up to any line jaime can do.

oh and if you think you can, come to alta, find me, and then we will go find that "nutjob" skiing around there, and you can say that to his face, and maybe he will LET YOU go skiing with him.
 
yeah, I don't spend much time in parks...I actually don't spend much time on lifts either... I usually hike or sled my ass up to real lines. I am pretty sure I can hang when it comes to comin down a mtn. In the park, I'm not all that...never claimed to be. I spin old school steeze and enjoy it. I make first tracks on the professor, claim Hells Half Acrea as my stomping ground, make laps on loveland pass and sled all over vail pass....so keep up with yourself brotha
 
you do realize that if you land on your feet off of anything larger than 70 feet, your legs go through your body. That is why he lands on his back
 
I agree that his jump had nothing to do with skiing...hucking cliffs is not skiing. I can throw my dog off that cliff and he would have had the same result as JP.

That said, I was responding mostly to your ascertations regarding his religous claims...and I believe that regardless of skiing feat or not his jump brought a huge emotional surge to him, and he got caught up in the momment.

I think we can agree that he regardless of result, his lack of helmet was straight bas ass.
 
this is very true, imagine him dying and his kid knowing he died,because he cocked up on a jump that involved no skill, was merely a show case for bravery/stupidity (dependin on ur view point)
 
No. I'm not going to think about it. He can believe whatever he wants, but I don't believe in Jesus so I'm not going to waste my time praying to a false god. I actually think the guy really rips, but it's not because of those huge cliff jumps. When I watch the rest of most of his segments I usually see some really good skiing. Those huge drops don't do that much for me. I don't really know what goes on in his head, but wearing a helmet is ALWAYS a good idea. It might not save you, but you never know. A helmet will do alot more to protect you then faith in jesus will.
 
Im pretty sure that Jamie wasnt being religious at all. All he was saying that this Cliff jump was to show how much faith he had God to keep him safe. He shared this faith with others, he had so much faith that he didnt feel the need to mention his kid and I think God respected his faith and made sure he was alright. Only a cut lip landing upside down from 250ft is nothing short of a miracle. Im not saying believe in God because of this (and Jamie sure wasnt too), but just respect the fact that instead of preaching at you, he was trying to show you God by an action of faith.
 
I don't really know about big mountain stuff, but on a cliff that big aren't you supposed to land on your back kinda?
 
it would have been a lot cooler if Jamie Pierre sacrificed, like, a lamb or something, right before he hucked himself. i would have been way more into that. that would have been hardcore. there would have been, like, blood splattered all over his goggles and gloves and jacket when he set the record. that way not only would jesus have died for our sins, but that lamb would have died for Jamie Pierre's huck: a two-for-one deal.

but, that's just my opinion and stuff.
 
i was watching an old warren miler yesterday and jamie kills it.. he was ripping the utah backcountry with 03 pocket rockets and he was owning
