you know mikee i've been reading a lot of your comments in various threads and i think your opinion is really on point. i know the sort of style you're talking about. it's my favorite style too, and i feel like i don't see nearly enough of it these days. with regards to this video too, i don't skate and i never had heard of jamal smith, but i definitely see what you mean about his style... fresh!
with that said though, i don't think that simply being vocal about the style you dig will actually make a change in the skiing world. nor do i think that a serious change needs to be made. i'm not the happiest with the direction things have been going in skiing either, but i think that the best thing a person can do is just ride the way that he or she likes. in other words, BE the style that you dig!
skiing will always be home to the individuals movers and shakers! there's no need to worry about that. big spins and tech will always get people paid, and real artists will always be underappreciated in their own time, even in skiing. but if someone is really skiing for him or herself, that shouldn't be an issue. and if style riders are really trying to make it in the industry, then they NEED the spin to winners to fill the mainstream and bring in enough money to support fringe efforts and collaborative film projects and the like.
so the point is, while i agree with you, i would rather live and let live. everyone can have their place and further their own conception of freeskiing. i know i won't be truckdriving any time soon... but if someone digs it, that's fine by me.
