Jake Burton has died

SIP to a legend.

I wouldnt be skiing now if I didnt start snowboarding back when I was a kid. Thanks for all you did for the outdoor sports community Jake Burton.

Burton really changed the games. Snowboarding and probably even terrain parks wouldn't be where it is now without him and his dream.

RIP

Heart broken to hear the news. So much is owed to his influence, our industry and community have much to thank him for.

Crazy to think how much he may have inadvertently affected freeskiing. I got into park on a board after landing my first 3 on a burton rig. Fast forward a bit and I’m on skis but the first spark for snow was on a burton. I’m guessing I’m not the only one on this site with a similar story. Not to mention burtons general presence like the stash parks

Hate to see legends go, rip

Fuckin sucks. Good dude. And honestly, that kind of person only finds their reason for life every once in a while. We should all be happy for the man he was. SIP. Rest in pow.

my uncle was best friends with Jake and his wife but he died a few years ago which was sad but I did get a bunch of free burton stuff though.

It's been a really hard 24 hours here in Vermont. I never would have started making skis if it wasn't for Jake. Thank you for making the board that changed my perspective forever of what sliding on snow could be. Those years as a kid stopping by the Manchester factory store, meeting pros at Stratton US Opens, watching VHS team videos and seeing you turn a cool idea into a company that revolutionized a sleeping industry inspired me more than anything else in my life. These experiences still give me direction in my personal life and business decisions today. I'm forever motivated and feel lucky to have had the chance to be a participant while you were here. Shred In Peace Jake! I can't wait to take some runs for you at Stowe this weekend with everyone else from this global community you helped shape.

Yup. Getting old. I remember when 25 year olds were pretty much middle aged. And now I'm 30. Def pretty wild how things that were "a year or two ago" end up being 5+ years ago.

So many good times at the Burton rail garden. Seriously, what other company would allow a public access rail garden outside of their world HQ?

So terrible to begin the season this way but it is beautiful to see so many people sharing stories of his accomplishments , invention and influence on our products and culture and keeping that alive thru story

for me it was what he was doing on boards in the 90s that made me wanna change the way and where I skied and I’m forever grateful for how our sports been changed by his gifts
