yo, i just got a ipod touch and i was wondering if i should jailbreak it. some people have told me not to now that theres the apps store and if i jailbreak it it will break. i dont know wat to do so ns, give me your opinion.

a lot of my friends have jailbroke theirs, and theyre fine. the ipod might slow down a bit though, i think one kid told me

Don't forget if you do jailbrake it you wont be able to return it should it become faulty through your fault or the pods.

you just update it to the newest version don't you? thats what i did with mine, and it's fine. i just want to jailbreak it to get apps on it now, instead of waiting for the itouch app store.

ok first you need to check you firmware. if you are on 2.0 then it will be to hard for you to jailbreak it. but if you are on 1.1.4/1.1.3 google ziphone. then open up the app and click jail break. also go to ipodtouchfans.com and that will teach you everything. pm me with any questions

yes you can return back to tthe original way. my friend has done it.

the only problem is youll have to resync all your music back on to the ipod if you choose to remove the jailbreak. but its not that bad....

eh, PM me and ill help, i have all the videos and links saved to help you through the process. I've done it for mine and my friends...i dont know why you wouldn't want to, with all the features that you can access.

yea he knows what hes talking about. i jailbroke mine and its old (like i think its version 1.1.2) its really easy to jailbreak. for you its harder cus im assuming its new. just downgrade to a lower version and your all set. also if you do jailbreak it and it breaks then you can just restore the ipod before sending it in. that basically restores it completely to factory settings (only the apps that it came with). theres really nothing wrong with jailbreaking believe me

jailbreaking is very unstable. and now with 2.0 out and the app store there is no reason to JB.

sure can.

Jailbreaking just messes with the software. If anything goes wrong all you need to do is restore your iPod. I haven't jailbroken the 2.0 firmware yet and I don't know if I want to since the app store has some pretty awesome free programs.

hmmmhh i wouldn't say very unstable, at most unstable, but really more than 10 000 people have done it, i personally know at least 15 people with ipod touches and 3 or 4 with phones, and there is less than a handful of them that have not yet jail broken their ipods, i have yet to encounter any problems with jailbraking mine, yes if you dont know what you are doing they can be bricked, but its possible to un-brick. As well, you cant break your ipod from jail breaking it, you can always back out. Anyways i was just unsure of the context you used stable in. As well with the app store sure their are a hand full, maybe more of decent apps to download, but the majority cost at minimum a couple bucks which is fine, but when you can have access to over a thousand why pay?

Man I used winpwn today to jailbreak 2.0 now i have appstore and the NES emulaator plus SSH access, Soooooo worth it. Its a teeny bit sluggish, but i dont care, its totally worth it. To the thread creator pm me if you need any help I'll be glad too. I'd say jailbreaking made my ipod the best 400$ ive ever spent, except my skis of course.

i hope this is a serious question, because i am answering with a serious answer. Anyways so to jailbreak is to hack your ipod, thus allowing over wifi to have access to thousands of applications, to download of your ipod. Apps such as games, emulators, organizational tools, many things can be done with the integrated touch screen and gyroscope( deteremines the way the ipod is tilted by forces applied which it reacts). Hacking an ipod can even allow VOIP calls with a bit of work. PM for more information or if you have any other questions.

Here are some of the cooler ones:

DONT DO IT!!!
I own a touch since may, bought it with firmware 1.1.3. and jailbroke it. worked fine, everything great, but, before I did that I read in different apple forums about the risks. Obviously there werent any since the jailbreak with the old firmware was not such a great software change and no Ipod or iphone had been destroyed by jailbreaking until then.

BUT
since 2.0 jailbreakin has become really different. Jailbreaking now IS a HUGE SOFTWARE CHANGE and there is a risk that it might completely wreck your iphone!
Like, if youre unlucky, it´ll be dead after the jailbreak and you wont be able to reset it, it ll be done.
I´ve been thinking about jailbreaking my 2.0 too, since some jailbreak programms were awesome, but as long as the risk of destroying my ipod is that hight I´ll be happly with the for free progs on app store, and if I was you I´d do the same!
