Jailbreaking an iPod Touch 3G

Alright. The earlier generations are easy as hell to jailbreak but Apple changed something with the third generation so I can't figure it out.
 
i downloaded that program and then tried it and then when it said restore ipod i clicked out and disconnected but it froze my ipodd! what the fuckkk
 
I was gunna ask, does this 3rd generation ipod have a video camera or something?

But it makes more sense that the OP fucked up.
 
3G=third generation. I didn't fuck up. Everyone I've talked to with the 3G iPod touch hasn't been able to do it.
 
I jailbroke mine and I'm pretty sure it's a third gen, a friend and I just used Blackra1n and looked up youtube vids on how do it, really easy.
 
I used redsn0w to jailbreak mine (2.2.1 firmware). I believe the 3.0 and later firmwares can be cracked using a program called yellowsn0w. Just google redsn0w and poke around on their website a bit, it should be on the homepage (as opposed to the redsn0w project page)
 
there are certain ipods 3g that can and can't be jailbroken yet. it has to do with the first 2 letters of the serial #. if it is MC or MB i think that it is impossible but if u do do it, the jailbreak is tethered meaning you have to rejailbreak it everytime the ipod restarts (which happens everytime you change something within cydia or winterboard) i am not positive about this but it worked fine on my ipod touch 2g but i don't want to risk it on my new 3g ipod touch.
 
use blackrain

you have to do a tether jailbreak with the new 3rd gen touches

plug you ipod in

close itunes

click make it rain

then go to the app on your ipod touch that says black rain

click that and hit install cydia
 
Ok, but as soon as I do this the icon appears on my iPod telling me to reconnect it to iTunes and I can't do anything else.
 
3rd gen touches can be jailbroken but they are theatherd so whenever you turn the ipod all the way off it looses the jailbreak, or if you download an app that has to restart your ipod you will loose your jailbreak. there will be new updates so that the 3rd gens can be jailbroken but none yet i guess.
